September, 2015 Here we are into September and the fall season is just around the corner. Our August Air show started out a little wet but turned into a great day and show. A big thank you goes out to all the guest pilots that came and made our show such a great success. A special thank you goes out to Jim Maike, who made all the kids happy with his fly by candy drop. And a huge thank you goes out to Tom Wrobleski, who put on a mid day show with plenty of fireworks and explosions with a mock bombing run on a farm. Plenty of war planes flying over and plenty of anti aircraft activity. The pyrotechnics were amazing and the spectators and pilots loved it. Don t forget that the first part of October will be our fall banquet put on by our club. We ask that you bring a dish to pass, the rest will be supplied by the c lub, including Geno s famous chicken. Through the winter months there will be indoor flying and dinners out with our members. Family and friends are welcome. Watch your email for updates. Ladies, don t forget to watch for emails for Lady s Day Out. Lunch, Shopping, movies, shopping, talking, shopping. The BBQ and Float Fly at Dr. Pepper s was really well attended. Lots of food and flying. Everyone had such a great time. There were a lot of float planes. Dr. Pepper did a great job manning the grill and all the food was the best! Moving to the new flying site at Thompsonville is a great hit with everyone. Great visibility and way fewer obstacles. Hope to see all of you there soon!
Food Fun Friends Flying Thank you to the Peppers!
2015 Fall Air Show
There is one more person that I also wanted to thank. Ed McIntosh has been a great supporter of this club throughout the many years that he has been a member. He served BARC many years as the Contest Director. He spent his own money on equipment and donated this equipment to our club so that we can continue to put on these airshows. He has donated the PA amplifier, microphones and has donated the work stand that holds this equipment during the show. He has also been a great help to me as my Contest Consultant! Thank you Ed McIntosh!! Mark Harrison
Our 18 th Annual Air Show turned out to be better than expected. We were expecting a lot more rain, with small openings of flyable weather, but instead, by 10:00 AM we had weather that continued to improve throughout the day with a lot of sunshine and a lot of spectators. We also had contact with numerous spectators that wish to learn how to fly and we took their information and hope to see them this Thursday to get them up with the Apprentice trainer plane. The pilot turnout was poor as we only had 18 pilots flying at the show. Last year we had 40 pilots attend the show. I m sure most of the down turn was due to the weather forecast. We had (2) of our own members fly at the show. Peter Blitzer flew his AJ Slick and George Munn gave a very good demonstration on launching a sailplane and trying to find a thermal. It was great to see members of our own club flying at the airshow. Our club has a great core of members that have put in many hours of work to setup, run, tear down, and store all the equipment needed to run the air show. I just want to thank all of our club members that worked to put this show on Saturday. We even had BARC members helping at the food tent as the Airport committee needed some extra workers to help them setup, cook, and tear down. I also want to thank Joe and Joyce Nunes for donating the easy to setup canopy that is used to provide shelter for our members that attend the airshow. Joe has also donated a RC builder s kit, as he wants to support his flying club. The kit is made by Sig, model Citabria. We were going to raffle it off at the airshow, but due to the weather forecast we decided to wait for a better turn out of pilots attending the show. I also want to thank Jay Stolz for doing a great job promoting this show though the local newspapers, so far I have seen an article in the Manistee News Advocate and I heard that the Benzie paper also had an article. Both newspapers published the article a week before the show started. Thank You Club members for all the help you have done to make these shows a success! Mark R Harrison / Contest Director
