Be aware that placing highly light absorbing material directly in front of (Distance 0-1cm) of the port or a fiber. The extremely high intensity will increase the temperature in the material. Using non harnesses in this light generator is at own risk. Insure that the poly connector is undamaged and clean before using the light generator in retrofit Roblon installations. Be aware that when light generator is operated at max ambient temperature the surface temperature can exceed 75 C. The light generator is only tested with standard polyconnector end. Page 4 Page 13 Introduction Maintenance, spare parts & repairs The FL1500 light generator is designed for use indoor/dry location with glass and PMMA fibre harness Ø28 mm. It can be used in all installations set-ups, including closed compartments if limits for max ambient temperature are followed. FL 1500 is designed as replacement for FL 150-series. Product overview/unboxing 1 FL 1500 light generator 2 User manual Allen key Power cord The effectiveness of active cooling device in greatly diminished if the cooling fins and the air intake is blocked or polluted with dust. This will reduce the expected lifetime of the product. The dust need to be removed routinely. Interval depending on the environment. A fine brush, vacuum cleaning or light compressed air can be used for the cleaning. This light source is not supposed to be otherwise serviced, if it is used as recommended. The fan can be exchanged using standard tools. A replacement kit with guide is available (page 13). If the product isn t performing as specified, use the troubleshooting guide. If you need further assistance please contact. The warranty label should not be broken under ANY circumstances. If broken the warranty is terminated.! WARNING! Remove red cap before turning on!
Page 12 Page 5 Application notes Technical data The light generator is an electronic device so it will not work forever. The different components will have different factors influencing the practical lifetime. The most important factor for this system is the condition of the surrounding air (temperature and cleanliness). The data we have stated the expected lifetime of the key components are at the temperatures the suppliers has performed their standardized tests and in clean environments. The light generator is designed to run at max ambient, but the longest usable operation is achied lower temperatures. Although there is thermal protection built into this device; it is only a safety device and should not be used as a measurement device to test if the light generator is running at a tolerable surrounding temperature. The poly connector is the most stressed part in this system. Care should be taken to insure that the fibre ends are 100% clean and free from dust and grease (fingerprint will do damage.). See www.rob-light.com for recommendation to clean fibre end. Running the light generator at too high temperature will not only risk damage to the light source but also the fibre harness. WARNING! Remove cap before turning on. Surface mounting Attach to surface using three screws (not supplied) in the baseplate holes. Be aware that the total weight of this system is more than 5 kg + the downforce from the poly connector.
Page 10 Page 7 Installing accessories Vertical mounting 1-10V dimmer potentiometer (01300758, 01300768) This light generator should not be mounted with light port up wards. At high ambient temperature the operational lifetime of the internal components and harness will be reduced. Controlling/measuring the temperature Always unplug, before working with the driver Ambient temperature: Measured 50 mm from the light generator (placed on a vertical plane) at the same height as the center of the light generator, and at the inlet not above 45 C. (p2) All temperatures to be measured when the installation has been running for at least 2 hours continuously. (Temperature will not decrease during the 2 hours if ambient environment is constant). (p1)
Page 8 Page 9 Closed compartments Installing adjacent light generators MAX AMBIENT TEMPERATURE 45 C. Recommendations: (should always be tested in a mock up) Enough space to allow natural heat transmission through surfaces. Surfaces should not be insulated. Cooling air for the poly connector can not be obstructed in any way, as it is essential to avoid damage to the harness. General minimum distance from light generator to any enclosing surface 10 cm (excluded mounting surface) - see drawing for details. Air volume per light generator minimum 0.35 m³ (For insulated surfaces the volume has to be increased) Airflow recommendation. Should be from obstacles inlet/outlet min 30 cm. Recommendation: Minimum 15 cm distance between adjacent light generators to ensure enough free cooling air. If multiple rows. Use offset to avoid vertical rows. Minimal free distance between rows 100 cm. T max has to be observed for all light generators. Measured at air inlet for each light generator. MAX AMBIENT TEMPERATURE 45 C. Recommendation: For compartments smaller than 0.35 m³ Ventilation holes per light generator with min. 100 cm² air inlet and min. 120 cm² air outlet. The observed limits are based on measurements for a wooden box (Ta=+22 C) Airflow
