HEROS-titan AS Rosenbauer This helmet is designed to provide LIMITED protection to the head when worn during structural fire fighting and technical rescue activities but will NOT protect you from all burns, injuries or hazards. EN Avoid exposure to flashover, collapses, falls and other conditions that may exceed the protective capacity of this helmet. If this helmet is exposed to heat, you may be burned with NO warning and NO sign of damage to the helmet. To reduce the risk of injury and for maximum protection, the helmet must fit firmly on the head, must be properly adjusted with all retention straps, securely fastened and with all components in place. The helmet can only provide optimum protection, when it has been correctly adjusted and sits perfectly on the head. The helmet may only be used in a completely assembled condition. Removable parts may not be employed separately. Never wear your helmet without fastening and tightening the chinstrap. The faceshields of this helmet provide LIMITED protection only to the facial area it covers. The faceshields are NOT intended to provide primary eye protection. The faceshields of this helmet are NOT shatterproof. High speed objects or large objects may break or penetrate the faceshields and injure the wearer s face or eyes. Improper use of the helmet for purposes other than those permitted according to this user information guide can lead to serious injury or death. Use only accessory equipment included in the original helmet or approved by the manufacturer. Do NOT modify, change or alter your helmet. Changes to the helmet assembly or the use of accessories not approved by the manufacturer may dramatically change the performance of the helmet function and thus cause serious injury or death. Helmets absorb shock by partial destruction of the shell an liner. This damage may not be visible. Therefore, if subjected to a severe blow, the helmet should be replaced immediately, even if it is apparently undamaged. The helmet may be damaged and rendered ineffective by such materials as petroleum and petroleum products, cleaning agents, paints and adhesives, 5

Rosenbauer HEROS-titan AS without the damage being visible to the user. Inspect the helmet assembly and the faceshields before and after EACH use following the inspection procedure in this manual. Replace immediately ANY part showing wear or damage. In case of non-adherence to these stipulations, ROSENBAUER cannot give any warranties concerning the protective function of this helmet! ROSENBAUER s conditions of liability and warranty are not extended due to this information. This helmet may only be used for the purposes for which it has been designed after careful study of the complete instructions. This protective helmet must be used only under the direct supervision of your fire department or employer consistent with applicable regulations. The helmet is neither suitable nor certificated for uses, e.g. as a cycle helmet, motor cycle helmet, as a seat, as an object for standing on, or similar activities. Utilization for such purposes is unacceptable and forbidden. This protective helmet must be handled, checked and maintained in the manner described in this user information and the instructions for use. In order to safeguard this helmet against premature aging, store it in a place which offers maximum protection against light and moisture. All repair work, component exchange and servicing on this helmet may only be undertaken according to the appropriate guidelines pursuant to these instructions for use. All activities must be logged. Only specialists authorized by ROSENBAUER, may carry out fundamental maintenance and servicing work, not described in this user information. Before and after every use, each element of the helmet assembly must be inspected carefully for cleanliness, tears, cracks, holes and any physical damage. In the case of unusual damage (loads) on the helmet shell, the interior harness, the chinstrap or other parts, these must be exchanged immediately in order to guarantee the defined protective function. Only original parts may be employed for the maintenance of this helmet. Subsequently applied paint on the helmet surface, or stickers not approved by ROSENBAUER, can alter the characteristics of the material and are not allowed. No alterations may be made to the helmet assembly. No attachments should be 6

HEROS-titan AS Rosenbauer added or alterations made to the helmet except those recommended by the helmet manufacturer. EN During operations in areas subject to the danger of explosions, the breathing apparatus mask and the helmet should be treated with anti-static spray, or a water film should be applied. The helmet shell is covered with a functional paint coating (impact resistant). Possible damage to the paint may have a negative effect upon the protective function of the helmet and should therefore be repaired immediately by a specialist. The visors of this helmet are made of high-performance polycarbonate. In extreme temperatures even the best helmet visor materials lose their stability. Deformed visors (due to thermal loads) must be exchanged immediately. Visors are wear parts and should be stocked in sufficient quantities. The ear covers are made of soft, flexible material, offering limited mechanical protection only. Ear covers are wear parts and should be stocked in sufficient quantities. This protective helmet will lower your ability to feel heat. Even though you do not feel heat you can be burned or injured suddenly and without warning. Be constantly alert to the possibility of exposure to heat and other hazards. 2. SIZING, FIT AND ADJUSTMENT Before each use of this helmet, make sure that it is sized, fits and adjusted properly The interior helmet harness allows the optimum adjustment of the helmet fit to the head. Individual setting can be carried out by means of the new method of adjusting the headband to the respective head size from the outside. The covering of the headband can be removed for easy cleaning. The headband can be removed from the helmet for cleaning purposes without the need for tools. The complete interior harness of the helmet can be easily exchanged. The visor provides LIMITED protection only to the facial area it covers. To provide this limited protection you must lower the visors fully to the detent, no intermediate position is allowed. 7

Rosenbauer HEROS-titan AS The visors must be stowed in the full upright position when a SCBA facepiece is worn. The trapezoidal shaped chinstrap is made of flame-retardant, highly heat-resistant material. In combination with the integrated padding, the chinstrap ensures pleasant wearing. The chinstrap can be individually adjusted both laterally and vertically in the neck area. The ear covers can be easily removed for cleaning purposes. You must assure that the ear covers of this helmet are down and interface with your hood, SCBA and coat collar so that there is no gap in protection during use. 2.1 Donning your protective helmet General adjustment The helmet can be smoothly adjusted between minimum and maximum size using the external ratchet knob. 1. The integrity, fit, and proper assembly of the helmet, suspension system, ear covers, and chinstrap must be checked before each use. 2. Release the headband by turning the ratchet knob counter-clockwise. 3. Put the helmet on and hold it down on your head. 4. Tighten the headband by turning the ratchet knob clockwise to obtain a snug fit. Never tighten the ratchet beyond its limits this could result in damage of parts of the ratchet and in reduced protection. 5. Fasten the chin strap securely and adjust to a snug fit. Never wear your helmet without fastening and tightening the chinstrap. 6. Assure that your helmet does not interfere with the seal of your SCBA face piece. 7. Assure that the ear covers of your helmet are down and interface with your hood, SCBA and coat collar so that there is no gap in protection during use. chin strap adjustment main size adjustment 8

HEROS-titan AS Rosenbauer 2.2 Additional adjustment possibilities 2.2.1 Center of gravity EN To optimize the individual weight balance the helmet shell can be moved against the inner harness to be fixed in three different positions. To do so, open the main screws left and right as shown. The inner harness can then be adjusted to one of the three possible positions (A,B,C). Be sure to adjust both sides equally. After adjustment to the right position, both screws left and right must be securely fastened again to ensure the safety function of these elements. 2.2.2 Size adjustment of the headband The headband can be adjusted on both sides to three different sizes. Select position 1 for small heads, position 2 for medium-sized heads and position 3 for large heads. Be sure to adjust both sides equally. After adjustment to the right position, both elements left and right must be securely locked again to ensure the safety function of these elements 9

Rosenbauer HEROS-titan AS 2.2.3 Adjustment of the wearing height The wearing height is easiest to adjust when the interior fittings are removed. 1 2 1 3 1 Remove both front fixing points left and right 2 Remove both rear fixing points left and right 3 Pull out the axle from the rotary knob 4 Remove the inner harness 5 Adjust both sliders equally to achieve the proper wearing height 6 Reassemble all parts in the reverse sequence After adjustment to the right position, both screws left and right must be securely fastened again to ensure the safety function of these elements 4 5 2.2.4 Visor adjustment The integrated visor should be pulled down until it locks. No intermediate position is allowed. The visor is pushed up in the reverse sequence, but is first secure when tangible locking occurs. 1/2 1/2 10 The optional eye protection visor is pulled down until it locks using both lateral levers. It is pushed up in the reverse sequence, but is first secure when tangible locking occurs.

HEROS-titan AS Rosenbauer IMPORTANT: Protection of the visor is only provided in the final position (end locking, no intermediate position). EN IMPORTANT: The eye protector (optional) should be moved only by using both levers (left and right) smoothly. Otherwise the visors can be scratch-damaged. These kinds of damages are NO warranty claim! 2.3 Doffing your protective helmet a) Helmet is not contaminated after use: Remove the helmet in reverse order from that described above for donning the helmet. Inspect each item of the helmet assembly for any damage or change in condition. Any damage or change in condition must be corrected before the helmet is used again. Clean and store the helmet as recommended under Maintenance. b) Helmet is contaminated after use: Protective helmets contaminated with blood, bodily fluids, toxins, radioactivity, chemicals, and hazardous materials. Strictly avoid unprotected bodily contact with any contaminated area of your helmet assembly. Avoid spreading the contaminants from your helmet assembly to your personal belongings, your living quarters and/or interior spaces in buildings and vehicles. Place contaminated helmet assembly in a sealable, leak-proof, air tight bag. Dispose of in accordance with applicable federal, state and local laws. If the helmet is to be reused, it must be decontaminated by a decontamination professional in accordance with applicable federal, state and local laws. 2.4 Cleaning You must keep your protective helmet assembly clean Clean the helmet assembly after each use, but before inspection NEVER use a helmet that is not thoroughly cleaned and dried Clean the helmet shell, the visors and all plastic parts with warm water and mild detergent using a soft sponge or cloth NEVER clean any part of the helmet or visor with abrasives, solvents, petrol, acids, etc., as this can have negative effects on the protective function. 11

Rosenbauer HEROS-titan AS 12 The fabric head band covers can easily be removed from the headband and can be washed in a washing machine at low temperature (use a mild detergent only). Dry all materials completely before reassembling and before use. Chinstrap cleaning The chinstrap should be cleaned as required. After removal from the helmet shell it can be washed in a washing machine at low temperature (use a mild detergent only). Dry all materials completely before reassembling and before use. Reassemble the chinstrap carefully! After reassembling of the chinstrap take care that all fixing parts must be securely locked again to ensure the safety function of all elements. 2.5 Inspection Inspect each element of the helmet assembly after EACH use carefully for function, cleanliness, tears, cracks, holes and any physical, impact, thermal and use damage. Disassemble and carefully inspect helmets that have been exposed to excessive heat ore have taken an impact. Replace ANY part showing wear or damage. Helmets absorb the energy of a blow by partial destruction of, or damage to, the helmet. Even though such damage may not be readily apparent, any helmet subjected to a severe impact should be replaced immediately. If there is a damage, remove the helmet from service immediately and repair or replace the damaged part before using the helmet again. NEVER use a damaged helmet! The service life of this protective helmet will vary depending upon how much it has been used and how well it has been cleaned and maintained. If you are unsure whether your protective helmet should be retired, do NOT use it. Unless the responsible authority determines that your protective helmet is ready for retirement earlier, the over all service life of this protective helmet shall not exceed a total period of 15 years. 13

Rosenbauer HEROS-titan AS 3. MAINTENANCE Take extreme care that at all time as well as after replacement of elements all fixing parts, screws, sliders etc. must be securely locked again and adjusted properly to ensure the safety function of all elements. 3.1 Chinstrap replacement The chinstrap can be simply removed using an Allen key for the screws left and right and loosen the neck strap velcro fixing. Replace the chinstrap and reinsert using the reverse procedure. 3.2 Visor replacement (face shield) First, the two screws (hexagonal socket) left and right helmet side must be removed. The visor should then be removed from its anchorage. A new visor is then inserted onto the seating bolts and the supports pushed into the plastic lugs in the reverse sequence.
