RHP Connor Jones worked around three Frisco runs in the bottom of the 2 nd to earn the win in his five-inning outing and 2018 debut. Springfield dug out of the early hole with RBI sac flies from 3B Tommy Edman and SS Edmundo Sosa in the 3 rd, before moving in front in the 5 th with an RBI double by CF Lane Thomas and an RBI groundout by C Andrew Knizner for the 4-3 advantage. The relief tandem of RHP Landon Beck and RHP Chris Ellis both dealt a pair of scoreless innings apiece, slamming the door in the 4-3 Cardinals win. Double the fun OF Lane Thomas has gotten off to a great start to his debut Double-A season, notching at least one extra-base hit in each of his five games so far. The Knoxville, TN native has gone 8x19 (.421) with one home run and a Texas League-leading five doubles so far. His six total extra-base hits are also tops in the league, and he is tied with INF Tommy Edman for the 7 th -best average in the circuit. Extra, Extra OF Lane Thomas isn t the only Cardinal putting a charge into the ball early, with Springfield currently tied for 3 rd in the league with 16 team extra-base hits, including four homers, nine doubles and three triples already. What a relief RHP Landon Beck and RHP Chris Ellis continued the trend of stellar relief for Springfield, blanking the RoughRiders through the final four innings on Monday. As a unit, the relief corps has surrendered only five earned runs in 21.1 innings, logging a 2.11 ERA through the first five games. More recently, the relievers have allowed just one earned run in their last 11.1 combined innings of work. Cards and Riders The Cardinals and RoughRiders split the 2017 series down the middle, going 6-6 against one another in 12 meetings.
