LOUIS BLUES VS. VANCOUVER The Blues host the Vancouver Canucks at 7:00pm tonight at Scottrade Center in St. Louis. Tonight s game is the first of a six-game home stand for the Blues and the first of four matches against the Canucks this season. Following tonight s game, the Blues will remain home to host five more home games including Nashville, Nov. 12, San Jose, Nov. 14, Phoenix, Nov. 19, the New York Islanders, Nov. 21 and Boston Nov. 23. VS. Western Conference The Blues are 4-3-2 against teams from the Western Conference this season and 1-0-1 against teams from the Northwest Division What to Watch for: The Blues have been putting in a lot of extra time lately. St. Louis has played three consecutive overtime games for the first time since they played three from Nov. 14 to Nov. 21, 2008. Additionally, the Blues most overtime games played in a row is four, from March, 7 to March, 13 in 2006. The team has never played five overtime games in a row. Also, their last two overtime games have gone into a shootout marking the first time St. Louis has participated in consecutive shootouts since Nov. 22 and 24, 2006. In their history, St. Louis has never gone to a shootout in three consecutive games. Vancouver Connection: Blues veteran forward Paul Kariya was born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia. Among Kariya s many career achievements, he was inducted into the British Columbia Sports Hall of Fame as a member of Canada s 2002 gold-medal Olympic team in 2003. Paul has faired very well against his hometown team in his career scoring 49 points (19G, 30A) in 49 games played. Other Blues players from the Vancouver area include Barret Jackman (Trail, British Columbia) and captain Eric Brewer (Vernon, British Columbia) who now calls Vancouver home in the off-season. VS. In 2008-09 the Blues went 2-2-0 overall against Vancouver and they lead the all-time series with an 82-54-22-1 record overall against the Canucks including a 46-22-11-0 record at home. ATLANTA The Blues played their third consecutive overtime game and their second consecutive shootout tilt Sunday afternoon in Atlanta. After a scoreless first period, the Blues broke the dead lock in the second period as Andy McDonald returned to the lineup and notched his fifth goal of the season. St. Louis added to their lead in the third when David Perron tipped in a point-shot from Eric Brewer giving the Blues a 2-0 lead. Atlanta came back though as Tobias Enstrom scored from the slot to make it 2-1 and Ron Hainsey tied the game minutes later after he threw a puck at the net that took a bizarre bounce and handcuffed Blues goalie Ty Conklin. After a scoreless overtime, Rich Peverley and Slava Kozlov tallied shootout goals and the Thrashers collected a 3-2 victory. Ty Conklin got the start in goal for the Blues and was superb, stopping 38 of 40 Thrashers shots.
