Show your support for the RED & GREEN Become a Sponsor in Season 2018 #HONOURTHECOLOURS

WELCOME The Blackwood Football Club has a long history and a bright future and we would love you to be a part of it in Season 2018. The support of our sponsors is vital to our success both on and off the field. Why be involved with Blackwood? Involvement with any organisation in a commercial relationship requires a commitment to success at all levels. The relationship must be win win for all parties and must be worked at to be successful. Likewise, Community Spirit is vital and worth fostering and maintaining, for the health and wellbeing of the people and organisations that offer a place for this interaction. Being a part of a community and contributing in any way can be fulfilling and rewarding. In order for sponsorship relationships to be successful the club must support our corporate partners wherever possible through direct financial support and club purchases. The club ensures the ongoing promotion of our corporate partners as well as the goods and services they provide to our members at every opportunity through various mediums. In order to maximise the financial rewards as a result of the club s efforts, our corporate partners have enjoyed further rewards by becoming involved with the club thus creating further opportunities whilst networking with other Blackwood Football Club supporters. Through a committed effort we can demonstrate that the Blackwood Football Club has achieved great benefits to our valued sponsors over a number of years as we strive to be a positive, progressive and professional organisation that is focussed on success and family values. Become a part of this success The Board of the Blackwood Football Club is fully committed this coming year to renew relationships with existing sponsors as well as welcoming new participants. Improved communication and contact, invitations to events and development of additional opportunities to promote your business to members will all be a part of Season 2017. As mentioned above, the Blackwood Football Club has an extensive membership base providing our sponsors with the opportunity to actively market to ensure a financial return on their investment. Sponsorship Benefits and Invitation Sponsorship of the Blackwood Football Club can bring many benefits to your business. We aim to provide you with value for money packages that can bring many returns for your investment. These benefits include effective brand advertising with exposure to a targeted local market (such as the Club User Groups) as well as wider exposure via our website and other social media. This exposure enhances your business image and heightens awareness and recognition of your company name and its contribution to the local community. We would like to invite you to become a key ingredient to our ongoing success by becoming a sponsor of the Blackwood Football Club in Season 2018 and beyond. Various packages are available that can be tailored to meet your organisations specific needs. These packages are detailed in the attached pages. Naming rights for parts of the club will also be released in 2018 and this provides another opportunity to raise your business s profile.

Our Club History What better place to start an introduction than look at the history as to how and when the Blackwood Football Club started and developed into the club of today. A lot of the feeling and friendship of a club often is steeped through the families that have had grandfathers, fathers, sons and grandsons play for the club always there through both the lean years and the winning years. The first recorded football match was played on Saturday afternoon, 2 September 1882, on Chambers Flat at the southern end of Coromandel Valley where Chambers Creek crosses Main Road. (A new housing estate now occupies the site.) The players were drawn from the employees engaged on the Nairne railway at Blackwood and a team principally selected from Coromandel Valley. It attracted a very large number of spectators, both male and female. The navies appeared in full costume and great excitement prevailed throughout the contest. The match ended in victory to the Coromandel s by three goals to nil. Coromandel s, as they were known, played mainly friendly games, e.g. teams from Adelaide including Marlborough s, East Adelaide Woodville, Kenilworth and Way College, and also from nearby country towns such as Stirling and Clarendon. In 1909 an attempt was made to form a regular competition but apparently this did not eventuate. The teams listed to play were Coromandel, Brighton, Happy Valley, Torrens Park, Glenelg Imperials, Morphett Vale, Reynella, Clarendon and Sturt. In 1912, Sturt League Football Club started a local district football competition called the Sturt Football Association. The lads from Coromandel football team who were entered changed the name to Blackwood and so, the Blackwood Football Club was born. Other teams that nominated were Mitcham, Brighton, Sturt Ramblers, Glenelg Imperials and Sturt (now Marion). At Blackwood, the first Captain was W.S Jones and first Secretary Percy Wade. Blackwood finished fourth in 1912, third in 1913 and fourth in 1914 and 1915. The club went into recess in from 1916 to 1918 (the war years) and reformed in 1919. Home matches were played at Chambers Flat, changing to a larger ground on the Downer family property known as the Military Parade Ground on Coromandel Parade, Craigburn Farm, next to the One Mile Post (now a housing development). In 1920 Blackwood Football Club joined the Mid- Southern Football Association From 1931 to 1948 the club played in the Glenelg District Football Association and in the late 1930s home games were moved to Blackwood Recreation Ground. The first Premiership won was A Grade in 1938 and B grade in 1947. The club played in Sturt District Football Association from 1949 to 1952, winning the Premiership in 1950 and 1952 and were runners up in 1949 and 1951. In 1953 the club re-joined the Glenelg-South West Football Association. The club went into recess in 1942 and 1943. Premierships were won in 1953, 1954 and 1955. Blackwood Football Club played in the revamped Glenelg-South Adelaide Football Association from 1967 to 1983, winning the A Grade premiership in 1969 and 1980 and the A2 Grade in 1976. The club transferred from Hewett Sports Ground to the Blackwood Hill Oval and new club rooms in 1978. In 1984 another Association name change occurred, to Southern Metropolitan Football League which only existed until it folded in 1986. Blackwood Club then transferred to the Hills Football League in 1987 where it competes today, winning premierships in 1988, 1991 and 2017.

Goals for Season 2018 The Blackwood Football Club was awarded HFL Club of the Year in 2011, 2014 and A-Grade Premiership winners 2017! An achievement that we are very proud of and aspire to achieve again. Sponsors The Board and Members will be striving in 2018 to provide our corporate partners and sponsors with value for money packages that will provide them with positive and beneficial outcomes for their businesses. This will be achieved through direct support where practical and the ongoing promotion to our club members and supporters via various mediums. On Field During the 2018 season the club will field 3 senior sides, in excess of 100 registered players, with Damien Salievic staying on as Senior Coach. With an experienced group of assistants and fitness team led by Brendan Bishop we strive to improve on the standards set last season. We have recruited based on the needs of the team and we are very excited about the potential of improving our status this season and capitalise on last season s success. Each year the club and its players commit to an intense preseason training program and fitness camp. These camps and training sessions provide our players with the ability to refocus as a playing group and ensure they are well prepared for the season ahead. This program is a testament to the commitment of our playing group and their support of the club. Junior Football is a huge part of our club, with a strong Junior Football Committee backed by the Board, with more than 300 registered juniors in the HFL and SANFL playing in Senior Colts through to Under 8 s and we are also hosting NAB Auskick again in 2018. BFC provides an outstanding coaching and junior development program to enable our junior players to improve and develop their skills so that they may have the opportunity to participate at the highest standard of competition available to them. Women s Football continues to grow at the Blackwood Football Club with the addition of a fourth side in 2018. We now have sides playing in the Under 18s, 16s, 14s and 12s competitions providing young women the opportunity to develop and play the game of AFL. Club Members Together with past players, parents and supporters the club has membership in excess of 700 people! Members will continue to be encouraged to participate in all aspects of the club from attending games to support the teams, to meeting and getting to know people through serving in the many roles that need to be done in a clubs life. Social Events Annually we hold many social events to participate including our Annual Gala Ball, Guest Speaker Days, Ladies Day, Golf Day, Sponsors Day as well at the Axemen s luncheons held four times across the season. We will advise you of these dates at the beginning of the season to make sure you don t miss out on an opportunity to attend. Axemen The Axemen have been a great supporters group within the club for many years and also look forward to a positive 2018. They offer an opportunity for supporters of the Blackwood Football Club, old and new, family and friends, to meet informally and support the club. Membership is open to all supporters male and female.

Facilities The Board are continuing to implement a number of improvements to the club facilities ensure the club is maintained and presented to a high standard, making it a pleasant environment to attend. We have applied for a grant to upgrade our players change rooms to be compatible for the new SANFL standards which includes facilities for women s change rooms. Club User Groups The Club has provided an excellent venue for local groups to meet and hold events. They get to see our facilities as well as our Sponsors advertising. We look to benefit from the improved club facilities and attract further groups in the coming year. Groups include: ARPA Seniors Social Club Coromandel Cricket Club Mt Lofty Rangers 4WD Club Sturt Lions Soccer Club Woods-Panthers Netball Club Life Members As part of our heritage we are grateful to those that continue their support of our club beyond their playing and parenting roles, we are proud to have 75 Life Members with the first accolade given in 1938. If you meet a life member, which will be obvious because they will be proudly sporting their Life Members Badge, you know that they have given more than 20 years of service over and above just being a club member. Sponsors Package 2018 Attached are our Sponsor Packages and Benefits for 2018 and again offer the popular Player Sponsorship opportunity. We appreciate the time you have taken to consider a partnership with Blackwood Football Club, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have.
