Issue 14 25th MAY 2018 Taylor-Waterson Year Newsletter Year Team DATES FOR THE DIARY Monday 28 th May to Friday 1 st June inclusive Half term Head of Year Mrs K Taylor Waterson Deputy Head of Year Mrs L Lane Pastoral assistant Mrs A Rushent Year Office Telephone: 023 9250 5212 Bay House School & Sixth Form Gomer Lane Gosport PO12 2QP Monday 25th June professional day school closed to pupils School ends for summer on Thursday 19th July 2018 at 12.30pm Curriculum changes for Year 9 Last week pupils were given an assembly entitled Choices. Within this assembly was a section outlining the curriculum changes for our pupils as they enter into Year 9. Part of these changes will require pupils to make a informed choice regarding which subjects they wish to continue studying into Year 9, and then viewing this as a pathway into their GCSE selection in Year 10. Later this week your child will be bringing home a letter outlining the curriculum changes for you to discuss as a family. There is a reply/ selection slip that needs to be completed and returned to the tutor by Friday 8th June. Charity news A huge well done to Year 8 for another successful Easter Egg Tombola - over 250 was raised which is bringing our charity total nicely towards the 500 mark. The next charity venture is Dragons Den. Pupils have been asked to collaborate with each other in designing a fundraising master plan and then presenting this to the Dragons. They can pitch and ask for investment for up to 10 and then use this to buy materials to bring their vision to fruition. Money borrowed must be returned and any profit will go into our charity fund. Please encourage your child to get involved with a friend and raise some money - every little helps! Uniform Please can I continue to ask parents to be vigilant with regards to uniform. As a school we are challenging pupils to conform to our expectations but we are still having to regularly deal with trainers and tight fitting trousers. Please can I urge you to make sure that your son/daughter is correctly attired for the school day.

WATER BOTTLES As we move into the Summer term we ask that you ensure that your child has a suitable water bottle to use during the day. There are various water dispensers around the school site, which pupils can use before school, at break and lunch times to IMPORTANT REMINDER Please note it is the responsibility of parents/carers to keep the school informed of any changes to the details we hold for your child and it is therefore essential you keep us up to date with any changes to the records we hold for them. This includes information regarding joining and leaving the armed forces. Armed forces updates should include parents (or step parents who currently live with the pupil). replenish their bottles. We need to make you aware that the school does not have a supply of cups for pupils to use and so it is important that they do have their own bottles.

European Theatre Performance Opportunity A performance by a cast of students who attend schools in Lille in France, Garmisch- Partikinger in Germany and Bay House. The performances in Gosport mark the end of a most extraordinary project. The Premiere performance in the National Theatre of Bavaria in Munich this month was received with a truly deserved standing ovation from the full theatre. We are very proud to announce two opportunities to see the production in the Main Hall at Bay House: on Friday 1 June at 7.30pm and Saturday 2 June at 3.00pm. Tickets available from the Finance Office priced at 5 adults and 3 concessions. Enquiries to Vanessa Shorter 023 92 505202.

How it works... There will be a total of FIVE races There are 6 horses in each race represented by Red, Green, Yellow, Blue, White and Black The goal of each race is to be the first horse to get past the finish line of the giant racing track At the start of each race, all horses are auctioned off to the highest bidder As the owner of a horse, you must provide the JOCKEY!
