This handbook is designed to give you easy access to all the activities available in our Junior Golf Program. Continuing on the success of our programs of the past, we are committed to providing a safe and fun learning experience in bringing the game of golf to your children. We do not use a one method for everyone approach and our program takes into account your child s age, experience, goals, and physical abilities. As your child goes through our Junior Program from year to year, he or she will learn all aspects of the game to continue the enjoyment of golf for a lifetime. Please take special care in reading through this handbook to familiarize yourself with the opportunities available throughout the golf season as well as important policies and procedures listed that insure our successful program. As always, if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact us at anytime. Junior Sports Signup Day The 2017 Junior Sports Signup Day is scheduled for Sunday, March 26 th from 11:00am to 2:00pm. Representatives from all the Junior Sports Programs ( Golf-Swimming-Tennis) will be available to talk about each program and register Juniors for participation. The Golf Program will have a Family Golf Activity available as well as Junior Apparel and Accessories for purchase. Thursday Junior Golf Play Days Thursday morning is the regular play day during the summer for Cedarbrook Country Club Junior Golfers. Juniors are divided into 4 groups: 18-holers, 9-holers, 6-holers, and 4-holers. Juniors new to the program must be 8 years of age by June 30 to participate in any of these groups. 18-holers play the entire golf course, 9-holers play the front nine, 6-holers play holes 10 and 14-18, and 4-holers play holes 1-4. Beverages and soft pretzels are provided for the Juniors on the grille patio when they complete play. Juniors are grouped primarily by age in the 4-holer and 6-holer groups. To be advanced to the 9-holer or the 18-holer groups, Juniors must demonstrate the ability to play on this level, have an understanding of golf rules and etiquette, and have the stamina to carry their own bag for 9 or 18 holes. Keep in mind that the jump from 4-holers to 6-holers is not as difficult as the jump from 6-Holers to 9-Holers or the jump from 9-Holers to 18-Holers. Each of the latter moves involves playing the golf course at much longer yardage and a much longer time of carrying the bag than the Junior may be used to. If you think your Junior should move to the next group, please take them on the golf course and have them walk and carry their own bag several times at the new distances to see how they do. Our goal is to have Juniors want to come back to play MORE rather than be anxious to LEAVE the golf course. The Golf Shop Staff will make the final determination of when Juniors can advance to either the 9-hole group or the 18-hole group. Juniors age 5-7 are invited to participate in our Mini Junior program. This program involves 45 minutes of group golf activities and games aimed at introducing juniors to the fundamentals of golf. While Mini Juniors don t play on the course, shorter holes are created on our practice facilities giving Mini Juniors the opportunity to play golf! Juniors who are 7 years old by June 30 and who have participated in the Mini Junior program for two years are permitted to join the 4-holer program. Each Thursday morning Junior Golf Play Day is scheduled, Juniors in the 18-hole group and the 9-hole group will be assigned starting times in the 7:30am to 8:30am window and Juniors in the 6-hole group and 4-hole group will be assigned starting times in the 8:30am to 9:30am window. Amelia Rorer, Michael Dean, and Dave Roberts will be at the practice range and the short game area all morning on Thursdays. We strongly encourage Juniors to arrive at the club 30-45 minutes before their starting time to warm up on the practice range and give Amelia, Michael or Dave the opportunity to help them with their full swings and/or their short game strokes. Warming up before play is extremely important in helping Juniors enjoy their Thursday experience as well as reducing the chance of injury such as a pulled muscle. Juniors and chaperones are expected to be at their starting tee 10 minutes before their starting time for any announcements and to receive scorecards. Adhering to these guidelines not only helps make the morning run as smoothly as possible but also reinforces to the Juniors the importance of being responsible for their schedules and creating a respect for the game. All Mini Juniors report to the Practice Range at 9:30am for their 45 minutes of activities. Weekly Signup Procedure Parents (or Juniors) must call the Golf Shop by 12:00 noon on the Wednesday before Thursday Junior Golf Play Day to register their Junior(s) for play. Starting times for all Juniors and walking assignments

for Chaperones will be created and emailed to all Junior Golf Families by Wednesday at 5:00pm. We will rotate which Juniors play together and what starting times everyone has on a weekly basis. Every effort will be made for families with more than one Junior playing to schedule their starting times as close together as possible. Parental Chaperones It is MANDATORY that at least one Parent from each family be present to chaperone Juniors participating in the 9-Hole, 6-Hole or 4-Hole category every Thursday they play. This is a requirement set forth by the Board of Governors and is mandatory for the safety of the Juniors. Adult supervision on this level is extremely important to prevent injuries resulting from wayward golf ball shots or golf swings that connect with body parts instead of golf balls. If a parent is not available to chaperone on a given Thursday, another responsible adult/sitter may represent the family to chaperone in their place. Please notify the Golf Shop when registering Juniors to play if someone other than a parent will be representing the family as a Chaperone. While Parents/Chaperones do not need to be accomplished golfers to walk with the Juniors, they must understand the basics of golf etiquette and safety, Included below is a summary of the Parent/Chaperone Walker Responsibilities. Play and Scoring Procedure Observe that the juniors are following the basic safety and etiquette: -All juniors are clear of another junior making a swing -All juniors are quiet and stationary as another junior is playing a shot -All juniors walk briskly but not run, especially on the greens A 10-SWING RULE is in effect in the 4, 6, 9-hole groups. If a junior has swung 10 times (misses included) and has not reached the green, the junior MUST pick the ball up and proceed to the front of the green where he/she can putt out. The junior s score for the hole will be 10 plus their number of putts. In BUNKERS, 4 and 6 holers may take two tries to get out and then take the ball out and place it next to the bunker, no nearer to the hole. Strokes counted will be each shot attempted plus one to move the ball out of the bunker. In WATER HAZARDS (red or yellow stakes) 4 and 6 holers may take two tries to get over the water. They then can place the ball on the other side of the water. Strokes counted will be each shot attempted plus one to move the ball to the other side. ETIQUETTE - All juniors are expected to replace their divots, rake all bunkers, and fix ball marks. Parents/Chaperones are expected to reinforce these habits with the juniors. It is VERY IMPORTANT that the juniors leave the golf course in BETTER shape than they found it! Parents/Chaperones are also expected to keep all groups of juniors moving swiftly to avoid slow play delays on the course. Juniors will be paired in twosomes and threesomes as much as possible to help keep play moving at a satisfactory pace. It is the responsibility of groups to maintain a position close to the group in front of them. If groups reach the tee of a hole and the group in front of them has left the green, it is a sign that the group needs to increase their pace of play. Helpful tips to quicken pace of play are: -Eliminate excessive practice swings before making a stroke. -Have juniors walk briskly to their next shot, staying clear of other juniors swings or shots. -Once on the green, have the juniors putt continuously until the ball is holed. -Be sure to enforce the 10-Shot Rule listed above. -Helpful advice is permissible but heavy-duty teaching is not since this slows down play.

Juniors MUST carry their own bag. If a junior can t or WON T do this, they are not ready to play in that group. All SCORECARDS must be turned in to the golf shop. A junior handicap system has been developed so all juniors will receive a handicap to be used during the Parent-Child event. 2017 Thursday Junior Golf Play Dates June 15-22-29 July 6-13-20-27 August 3-10-17-24 The cost per junior to participate in the Thursday Junior Golf Program is: Children of Active Golf Members: 18, 9, 6, 4 Holer- $75.00 per junior Mini Junior- $40.00 per junior Children of House Members: 18, 9, 6, 4 Holer- $145.00 per junior Mini Junior- $75.00 per junior Dress Code All juniors must adhere to the club s dress code while on the golf course and on the practice facilities. Boys must wear collared shirts that are tucked in at all times. Girls must wear golf specific collarless shirts and shirts that are designed to be worn out. Appropriate slacks/shorts must be worn. No bathing trunks or denim is permitted. Soft spike golf shoes or soft soled footwear are permitted. Caps and visors must be worn properly. Rules Test All juniors will receive Rules/Etiquette Tests well before the Thursday Junior Golf Days begin to be completed and returned to the Golf Shop. Parents are encouraged to take it with their juniors as EVERYONE may learn something they didn t know before! Rule books are permitted to be used during the test. The test for 4-holers and 6-holers is geared mainly to safety and etiquette questions while the test for 9-holers and 18-holers involves more golf rules in addition to safety and etiquette. Certified Junior Golfer Status Juniors who are age 12 and older may become Certified Junior Golfers. Certified Junior Golfers are permitted to play at the prescribed junior times or utilize the club practice facilities without parental supervision. To become certified a junior must: -Shoot three scores of 55 or better for 9-holes (from the red tees). Attested scorecards must be turned in to the Golf Shop. -Complete and turn into the Golf Shop the completed Rules/Etiquette Test for Certified Junior Golfers -Play a 9-hole round with a member of the Golf Staff to ensure the junior has a firm knowledge of golf rules and etiquette. Upon passing these three requirements, the junior will receive a Certified Junior bag tag. Cedarbrook Country Club Etiquette Reminder Sheet -Replace your divot taken from the fairway. -Rake smooth any footprints you cause in a bunker. -Fix your ball mark and one other on every green. -Place your golf bag at the side of the green closest to the next tee. -When taking a practice swing, be sure you have a safe zone around you. -Do not slide or place your golf bag on any green. -Replace the flagstick properly and carefully so not to damage the hole. -Be punctual for all starting times (arrive to the tee 10 minutes before) -Place trash in trash cans and pick up trash seen on the property. -Never jump around between holes on the golf course. -Pick the right set of tees to play from. Don t let your ego get in the way of enjoying a good time on the golf course. Play from the set of tees at a yardage you can easily handle. -Keep your eye on the group in front of you to maintain a good pace of play and avoid the well no one is pushing us mentality. The correct position on the golf course is directly behind the group in front of you. -An acceptable pace of play for four players is 2 hours for 9-holes and 4 hours for 18-holes. Groups playing in a time longer than that can negatively impact the experience of other players. -Keep your eye on the ball until it finishes its flight. Many lost balls are the result of not marking its finishing position with a landmark. -Take the time to record your score on the tee of the next hole
