HAMILTON HIGH SCHOOL Cheerleading Contract 2016-2017 1. GOALS: The goal of the HHS Cheerleading Program is to promote school spirit and good sportsmanship. A well-trained group of cheerleaders and dancers has a tremendous effect on the audience. Crowd response during a game is dependent on the efforts of our Cheerleaders. Your job is to lead and entertain the crowd and to support our player s efforts during the game. Being a member of this program is an honor. Each member must portray a favorable image. 2. COMMITMENT: Cheerleading activities continue throughout the entire year. Members are required to attend a variety of sporting events, which may include more than football and basketball. Each team will practice for and enter cheerleading competitions at the appropriate level. Members are expected to be aware the Calendar of Events and to arrange out-of-town plans and other activities so that games, practices, and performances are not missed. 3. CONDUCT: A Cheerleader is an example to the school and community. Any incidents of smoking, fighting, using obscene language, extreme changes in appearance, open defiance of school authorities, truancy, vandalism, theft, etc. will result in probation or removal from the team. DRUG OR ALCOHOL COMSUMPTION IS ABSOLUTELY PROHITED AT ALL TIMES AND MAY RESULT IN SUSPENSION AND/OR REMOVAL FROM THE TEAM. A Cheerleader must also avoid any postings on any social media sites that include profanity, disparaging/unsportsmanlike comments, bullying, pictures of drugs, alcohol, tobacco, nudity, or inappropriate behavior. Other infractions, such as skipping classes, excessive tardiness, being uncooperative, missing required games and/or practices, will result in disciplinary action taken by coaches and administrators at their discretion. 4. PARENTS: Parents play a very important role in all program activities. You are needed to make sure team members arrive on time to games, are picked up on time after games, give audience support at games, and aid the school and coach in maintaining the HHS Cheerleading rules. Parents may be asked to participate in fund raising. Parents also need to understand that the coaches and school administrators are the ultimate decision-makers in any disciplinary action. CHEERLEADING IS A COMMITMENT THAT IS TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY. Please refrain from using forced absences from Cheerleading activities as a form of family discipline. Also, appointments should be scheduled outside of practice time. 5. UNIFORMS: Each member will be required to purchase his/her own spirit outfits. The cost of spirit clothes and camp will be kept as reasonable as possible. No part of the clothing will be handed out until fees are paid in full. These clothes will be worn as assigned by coaches and on game days. FORMAL DRESS UNIFORM The formal uniform and bags (Varsity) are on loan to the student and should be treated with care. They should be washed not dry-cleaned. They should not be put in the dryer. The cleaner can press the skirt but an iron should not touch the silver portion. 6. GRADES: Members must maintain a 2.0 GPA and receive no D s of F s to be eligible to cheer and perform. During a period of ineligibility the student must attend an athletic study hall (Husky Room) either before or after school for five consecutive days. During ineligibility students must attend all practices and games but they may not perform. Each member is also expected to maintain a satisfactory citizenship grade in all classes.

7. PRACTICES: Practice sessions may be called any time after tryouts have been completed. These are necessary to prepare for camp and the coming school year. Physical conditioning must continue through the summer whether practices are being held or not. We ask that you commit to this to help prevent injuries and to be able to participate at the highest levels in summer cheer camp. Practice calendars will be available and will also be posted in the locker room. ATTENDANCE AT ALL PRACTICES IS REQUIRED, failure to follow this rule may result in your removal from the team. The only excused absences from practice include: illness with a doctor s note or family emergency. WORK is NOT an excuse to miss any practice! 8. GAMES: As a High School Cheerleader, it is your number one priority to support the athletic teams. Games are required for all members. Members must be on time and ready to warm-up at the time the Coach has set. Members should pay attention to the games at all times and lead the crowd in supporting and cheering on the team. ATTENDANCE AT ALL GAMES IS REQUIRED, failure to follow this rule may result in your removal from the team. The only excused absences from practice include: illness with a doctor s note or family emergency. WORK is NOT an excuse to miss a game! 9. SUMMER CAMP: Camp is an important piece in bonding as a squad and preparing for the upcoming year. 10.
