Clearview FALL Cheerleading Tryout Information 2018 Online registration is OPEN Now- through Tuesday, July 31 st at 8pm You will only be able to register for fall sports during these dates! Athletic Registration is done on the Athletics page of the school website. You must create a family account first or update your existing account, if you played a sport in the HS or MS last year. Please note the start dates if your physical will be expiring around this time. REMEMBER! ALL ATHLETES must hand in a new PRE-PARTICIPATION PHYSICAL EVALUATION or HEALTH HISTORY UPDATE QUESTIONNAIRE to the nurse following registration ASAP to be cleared. Both forms can be found on the registration home page. See school nurse or athletic trainers at the high school with any questions about sign ups or paperwork.
CHEER TRYOUTS IMPORTANT DATES Senior/Captain practices July 30 th - Aug 1 st 8:30-11:30am @ Chestnut Branch Park We will be teaching sidelines and cheers. This will be good practice for tryouts to see what you need to work on for motions, spirit, and jumps. All tryout sessions LOCATION: MIDDLE SCHOOL ALL PURPOSE ROOM/ MS GYM *Please arrive 15 min early for attendance Dates: August 13 th, 14 th, and 15 th (There may be a 1 st round cut before we get to stunting) Time: 9am-12pm *Squad Announcements will be made the night of the 15th via email. Tryout Material: Material will be emailed via Youtube links 1 WEEK BEFORE TRYOUTS It is your responsibility to learn it on your own. Cheer Tryout Material EXAMPLES: 1 Dance, 1 Long Cheer, 1 Chant, Jumps, Tumbling We will be stunting at tryout practices and during judged tryouts. Due to safety reasons, you will only be permitted to perform stunts that are at your abilities. ***Gymnastics from BACK handsprings and above are HIGHLY recommended for Varsity, with some exceptions. You will be scored on tumbling. SCORING: We will be using a RUBRIC. Practice Attire: *Athletic shorts, Athletic shoes with laces, athletic socks, hair pulled back into ponytail, NO JEWELRY OF ANY KIND, t-shirt or tank top in green, gold, white, black and sports bra, short nails (nude colors only or no polish). *Please bring your own water bottles. *Please eat a healthy snack prior to practice. You will be emailed a tryout #. Please wear your # somehow on your shirt at ALL Tryout days and Practices that is Large, Clear, and that will stick to your shirt (ex. Black tape, puffy paint, safety pins, whatever stays). We do not know all of you so this will help us get to know who is who. Remember you are trying out the minute you walk through the door! Come prepared, with a positive attitude ;-) *CELL PHONES are prohibited for use during all practices. Parents please contact coaches or school for emergencies. CLEARVIEW HS CHEERLEADING CUT POLICY A cut policy will be in place for tryouts. Squad sizes are limited and student-athlete expectations and skills must be met. These expectations will be clearly reviewed with participants and parents prior to tryouts (SEE SCORING RUBRIC). The nature of cheerleading requires strength, experience, and knowledge to properly and safely execute stunts on the level we will perform at. All participants, regardless of grade (9-12) will be treated equally. Prior squad placement does not guarantee squad placement this year. New participants try out each year and will be given the same opportunity. Positions will be filled with the participant that is most qualified and meets the talent level. All participants must tryout in order to be placed on a team. GENERAL INFO: CHEERLEADING is considered a fall sport. It must be priority over outside teams/ dance/ gymnastics/ work, etc. Practices: 2-4x s/week plus games. All practices and games are mandatory.
Cheerleading at Clearview is a physical sport that involves, running, conditioning, jumps, dance, stunts, and gymnastics. Please prepare yourself and get physically conditioned prior to tryouts/ start of the season. Paying late delays everyone s order and we can t be held up as the timeline is tight. You will be paying through an online portal set up at the fitting.
