A slide show presentation by Art and Nancy Andersen of their January 2016 Hurtigruten coastal cruise from Bergen to Kirkenes and back to Bergen will be our January program. 12:00 noon Recipe #1 Boiled Cod for Part 3 of the Traditional Norwegian Cooking Medal will be prepared by members who are interested in earning the Part 3 Cooking medal in 2018. 1:30 dinner discussion of the Cotter s Son Please sit at the designated Literature Table if you would like to discuss the book during dinner. SONS OF NORWAY Polar Star Lodge 5-472 MEETING HOSTS (Kitchen Committee) At least two members/families are needed each meeting to serve on the kitchen committee. Join in by volunteering for one time each year. INSTRUCTIONS FOR HOSTS FOR SETTING UP LODGE MEETING Chairperson: Contact members of your committee to complete your plans ahead of time. The committee normally supplies meat or main dishes and one gallon of 2% milk. All other members are asked to bring a potluck dish to share. Arrive at the hall 1-½ hours prior to meeting time. Set up 6-8 tables with chairs in their proper places. Provide table decorations according to season. Napkins and placemats may be in cabinet check this at meeting before for inventory. Make the coffee (50-60 cups). Coffee is provided by Lodge and is in the Lodge cabinet. If not, purchase coffee and you will be reimbursed. Start coffee immediately. Takes at least one hour. Set up the buffet table (two long tables). Arrange the food on the tables as it comes in. Include a basket at the front end for donations. Please set up an entry table for the sign in book. Set up the podium and the three flags in the front of the room. After everyone has eaten, wash cups, spoons, etc. and clean up area. Use our lodge dishtowels (in storage room). One person from the committee needs to take the dishtowels home, wash them, and bring them back to the next meeting. Return all chairs and tables to their proper places. If it is inconvenient for you to serve at the time scheduled for you, exchange with someone or find a substitute. Any questions notify the Social Chairperson, Nancy Andersen. Mark your Calendars for the Polar Star 2018 Field Trip FRIDAY, MAY 18: 9:00 a.m. -10:00 p.m. SATURDAY, MAY 19, 6:00 a.m.- 10:00 p.m. SUNDAY, MAY 20 9:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. Fees/Admission $5.00 Booster Button is required for all events. Syttende Mai is Norwegian for the 17 th of May. On May 17, 1814 the Norwegian Constitution was signed when Norway broke free of its 500-year long union with Denmark, finally granting Norway its independence. Stoughton celebrates Syttende Mai on the weekend nearest May 17, and has been doing so as far back as 1868. Stoughton s Syttende Mai festival celebrates our Norwegian heritage with many people wearing authentic Norse costumes (bunads), special Norwegian foods and delicacies are served, and traditional Norwegian art of Rosemaling and Hardanger are on display. The renowned Stoughton Norwegian Dancers perform throughout the three-day festival. The festival features: Arts and Crafts Show Stoughton Village Players Theater Children s Parade on Saturday, Norwegian Parade on Sunday Hardanger Fiddle Demonstration Edvard Grieg Chorus Norwegian Church Service Page 5 of 10

Five-Hills Tournament: International Ski Jumping Teams will compete head to head with U,S. Jumpers both days, for the first of 5 Competitions in the Midwest s Five-Hills Tournament.
