.Kings River Gazette. Volume 7 Issue 2 The official publication of the February 2002 August. By doing our matches this Lunch will be provided for all way, it constantly gives us workers!! something a little different. This difference is what makes Cowboy Action "--------------...1 Shooting the great sport A Long Match By Cole Chance This months match was a little longer than normal. We started it on our regular Sunday, February 17 and didnt finish till the following Sunday, February 24. Sometimes Mother Nature must want us KRR folks to have a little extra shooting. This months match director was Nine Lives who gave us lots of shooting and lots of thinking to go with it. All cowboy matches require mental discipline to be successful. So it was really good to get some practice not only with our guns but our brains as well. Nine Lives, you did yourself proud. Good Job Cowboy! As of now, our Sheriff Hawkeye ORiley has match directors committed through that it is. r d just like to thank all those that have been match directors or have volunteered to be match directors this coming year for all your hard work. Without these shooters and their hard work, this wouldnt be the best damn Cowboy Action Shooting club there is. Remember that there is a lot of work to be done to get ready for Fort Miller 02. Our Blacksmith, Fargo, has a lot of projects lined up between now and then so try to make all the work days that you can to help. Also, if you are one ofthe owners of the shops on our Old Town Street, please come out and spruce up your building. They are looking a little worse for wear and havent had any real maintenance for awhile. Signs need touching up, paint needs to be redone, and some other things. make it shine like it did when it was new. Folks are always impressed with our town, and we dont want to have it looking like an abandoned ghost town before its time! As those who have been at the last 2 matches know, we purchased new timers. We now have 10 ofthe late~model type. At next months match, we will be auctioning off our five old timers. (Not Terrible Ted, etc., but the real old timers.) Bids will start at $40. High bidder will have till the April match to pay for the timer. If not paid by the April match, the timer will be auctioned off again. If you bid and dont pay, you cant bid again. These are great for practice. They work fine, we just dont need them now that we have 10 that are the same. Thought for the. day: There were only two things the oldtime cowpunchers were afraid of- a decent woman and being set afoot. From the Blacksmiths forge By: fargo The morning dawned cold and clear, but the action so6n heated up as members soon began arriving for the clubs first scheduled work day ofthe year. The date was February loth and there was plenty to do for everyone. Ten more trees were planted to provide much needed shade in five of our bays. The ground level in our long range building was raised to help keep it high and dry during the rainy season. Fort Miller experienced some "growing pains" on Sunday. The fort is now "growing" because of sixteen posts set into the ground to form the basis for the structure. The "pains" were no doubt evident the next day by those involved in the work. Crews also began the excavation of the shade structure near bay eight, preparatory to relocating it to bay five. A trench was also began so as to bury electrical service to the ore cart battery charger on bay seven. A fine midday chuck was provided by the capable hand of Ruthless Ruth and Jessie Montana, without which we may not have been able to finish our work. Kudos to two pillars of KP~. - --- -- ~ All in all it was a strenuous, but very productive day. My hats off in humble thanks to all you cowboys and cowgirls who put out the extra effort and made a difference. Yours is the spirit and dedication that embodies KRR and our sport. But were not finished yet. We have scheduled another work party for March 1Oth. We will be installing the shade structure in bay 5, building the fort, and digging trenches for water lines to the new trees we planted this month. So mark you calendars, lay in a supply of liniment and come enjoy a day of range improvements that well all appreciate for years to come. H E A R D ROUND THE CORRAL Good to see 1st looser, I mean Riverdale, out shooting again. Really want to thank him and Cole Chance for helping Terrible Ted and I get our truck started in the pouring rain after the rained out shoot. Well those who came out to help with set-up the Saturday before we got rained out, know that a new standard has been set for match directors. Nine Lives was match director and he and his wife Taw Jackson supplied a big pot of chili beans and cornbread for the set-up crew. Just goes to show if you want any work out of a cowboy, you have to feed him. Speaking of being rained out, how many of you shot better the Sunday it rained than you did in fair weather? If you didnt get a gander at the set of cowboy guns Geo Kids fellow workers gave him at his retirement party you missed something special. Places to Shoot <<<<<Monthly Matches>>>>> 1 ST Sat.
