North Royalton Soccer Club Board Meeting April 12th, 2016 7:00 p.m. 1. Opening a. Call to Order: meeting called to order by Pete at 7:38pm 2. Roll Call and approval of minutes from last meeting a. Board Members present Pete Ragone, Curt Keaton, Guy DiSiena, Lori Pickering, Vince Weimer, Larry Zajac, Dave Manson, Kevin Rowles, Bill Werner, Denzil Antonio b. Minutes from the March Board Meeting and Trustee Meeting were reviewed and approved unanimously. Vince motioned and Kevin seconded the motion. 3. Reports a. President Pete Ragone Introduced Ron and Sarah Matthews who provided a sample of their product and handout materials for their business, Kona Ice. i. Held a discussion with the Board about parking the Kona Ice snow cone truck during weekends, picture day, and soccer days. Kona Ice will pay back the club 20% of all sales. ii. Sponsorship opportunities for Kona Ice were discussed with the club. Will send out reminders for picture day, Friday night foot skills, and the Chipotle offer through a text blast. Closing Field 3 for repairs. Changes to the street sign needs approval from the NR Recreation Board. i. Vince is working on proposals for the May meeting. Discussion held about moving U13, U14 travel teams to Serpentini stadium for home games. The club sets aside funds for using the stadium for travel games. b. Treasurer Guy DiSiena Provided a handout of the NRSC balance sheet and led a discussion of financial matters including club expenses, winter travel training, and the MIST tournament. Regarding MIST tournament, a discussion was held about placing a club tent at the tournament with some food and water. i. Pete will check with Reno about renting a large tent for the event. Current club balance is $76,267.19.
The referee meeting was completed and concession workers have been identified for the Spring season. Guy requests anyone with kids who want to work concessions, to let him know. The Rec Kickoff went well. Denzil had a good setup at the Fieldhouse. A little better communication would have helped, but overall, very positive. The Academy went well. i. Denzil requested considering renting the Fieldhouse for two weekends to cover a first round of games since we usually have wet and cold conditions the first week. Or potentially use Serpentini stadium for a weekend. No further discussion. The practice schedule is all worked out. High school coed coaches are doubling up practices which is working out well. The club should encourage this practice going forward. Guy is starting to work on the soccer days schedule. Front line will be there for product sales, maybe Kona Ice, a tent for girls soccer, some fundraising activity is planned, possibly 50/50 raffle, promotion of the bus trip. i. A discussion was held about Dan Sinclair helping with fundraising activity. Pete will email Dan and Mark about Dan helping out. A discussion was held about Vinny Calo taking on the League Director position. A discussion was held about deciding the registration format for next year. Affinity will not be an option. i. Discussed using Kyck for next year. Discussed the payment options with using Kyck. ii. Larry to setup a meeting with Chris Fox Held a discussion about getting background checks for coaches. Pete will check with the baseball club to see how they handle it. c. Adult League Coordinator/ At-large Director/ CVSA Rep- Larry Zajac CVSA games start this coming weekend. The club will be participating in the Bowling Green Tournament. U23 CVSA has two mens teams, will be adding a third. CVSA tryout dates will be June 6th through the 9th. Adult league, Coed starting this week, Men starting in mid-may. d. Club Director Vince Weimer Will order tryout jersey s for travel tryouts. Will order a variety of sizes and stock. Led a discussion on the header rule for the club. A lengthy discussion was held about accountability at practices and games for limited header procedures. Rules would be difficult for the club to enforce and monitor. For travel, OHTSL is following US Soccer which means no heading for U11 age and under. i. Vince made a motion to eliminate headers for NRSC rec practice and games. Lori seconds the motion. Larry abstains. The remaining Board
members vote to approve no headers allowed for U14 and under for the rec league. ii. Guy will send an email to all rec coaches about the new club header policy. iii. Curt will post the policy on the website. Vince made a motion to accept Guy s corrected version of the Director of Coaching responsibilities. Curt seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously by the Board. Picture day is this weekend. Off duty NR police officer, Officer Waters, will be there to help direct traffic. Picture forms have been provided to rec parents at the kickoff. Flyers are ready for schools for Fall Registration. Will be disassembling old trophies for credit with Crown Trophy. New trophies will be prepared for soccer days. Working on sponsorships. Now that we are 501c3, working on different sponsorship options. e. Dave Manson - Registrar A discussion was held about the tryout schedule and getting the information into the Royalton Recorder. i. The advertisement will direct people to the website for their assigned tryout time. ii. The website will also provide information about the birth year. iii. The add will have a deadline of May 22nd. iv. Dave will contact the Recorder to get the ad in place. Registration opens May 2nd for rec, travel, and adults. Season costs will be $70 Academy, $100 rec, and $200 travel. Late fees will be $10 for Academy and Rec and $20 for Travel. i. Will change wording to say early bird registration ends July 15th and registration ends July 31st. May 15th ends travel early bird and May 22nd ends travel registration. f. Travel Director, girls - Lori Pickering Led a discussion about the parents meeting scheduled for April 27th at the PAC from 7pm to 9pm. i. Pete will contact Jim Prescott to verify the necessary equipment is there, computer, projector, and microphone. ii. Vince will be there. iii. Kevin can make a power point. iv. The following topics will be covered: Header rule, birth year changes, small sided rule changes, frequently asked questions to be placed on the website. 17 of 18 travel teams are registered for the MIST. g. Discussion about moving boys to OHTSL with Pete and Guy. Board agrees its best to keep boys and girls in the same league. i. Lori makes a motion to move the boys travel program into the OHTSL. Curt seconded the motion. ii. All Board members voted unanimously to move the boys program to OHTSL. Footskills are all set for the Fall, will have a minimum of 5 coaches at each session, but usually will have 6. Summer camp for girls is the 26th through 29th of July. Discussion about no current plans for a boys camp. Has discussed the Acedemy plan with Jackie. Guy will send Jackie contacts for potential coaches. Guy will assist Jackie with equipment setup. Pete will make sure there are girls present to help out, need 6 to 8 every week. h. League Director vacant 4. New Business 5. To Do List: Kona Ice fundraising opportunity.
