JANUARY 21, 2017 2 P.M. KIRBY SPORTS CENTER (2,644) SETTING THE SCENE The Lehigh women s basketball team will clash with rival Lafayette for the 90th time on Saturday afternoon at the Kirby Sports Center in Easton, Pa. The Mountain Hawks have won 15 of the last 19 matchups against the Leopards, with the two teams coming into the showdown having combined to lose their last 28 games in a row. Lehigh has lost 10 straight, their longest losing streak in 22 years, while Lafayette has lost 18 in a row and not having won since opening night by seven at La Salle. The pair are the only two winless teams remaining in Patriot League play. The Mountain Hawks are coming off a crushing 66-64 loss to second place Navy on Wednesday night at Stabler Arena. Down by 18 on three different occasions in the second quarter, Lehigh roared back thanks in part to a career-best 15 points from freshman Camryn Buhr, including nine straight by herself in the third quarter where she helped tie the game and give Lehigh the lead. Junior Bernadette Devaney drained a three-pointer with 13.7 seconds remaining to put Lehigh up 64-63, before Navy was able to steal an inbounds pass in the final seconds to help set up the game-winning three-pointer from near midcourt as time expired. Lafayette s latest defeat came on Wednesday against American. Thirteen of the team s 18 losses have come by double-digits. LEHIGH S PROJECTED STARTERS Pos. LEHIGH HEAD COACH SUE TROYAN Sue Troyan (Dickinson 88) is in her 22nd season at the helm, carrying a career record of 343-299 into Saturday s contest and has turned the Lehigh program into a perennial Patriot League power. A two-time Patriot League Coach of the Year, Troyan guided Lehigh to 19 wins and a Patriot League Championship appearance in 2014-15. In the previous six years, Troyan led Lehigh to a combined 120-69 (55-33 PL) record which included a pair of Patriot League Championships and NCAA Tournament berths.

2016-17 LEHIGH WOMEN S BASKETBALL GAME 19: LAFAYETTE PAGE 2 ALL-TIME VS. LAFAYETTE The Rivalry will be renewed for the 90th time when Lehigh and Lafayette meet on Saturday at the Kirby Sports Center. The Mountain Hawks own a 45-44 advantage in the all-time series since the Leopards claimed a 45-35 victory in the first-ever meeting in the 1974-75 season. Lehigh is on a two-game win streak over Lafayette after sweeping the Leopards last season by a combined margin of 23 points. Lehigh s longest win streak over Lafayette is a six-game streak, which occurred twice (2001-03, 2008-10). The Leopards own the longest win streak of the series, winning eight-straight from the 1986-87 season to the 1988-89 season. Since the turn of the century, Lehigh has taken victories in 28 of the 39 meetings with Lafayette, leaving the Leopards with just 11 wins during that span. Lehigh has also won seven of the last 10 meetings dating back to 2012. Since opening her career with five-straight wins over Lafayette, head coach Sue Troyan has lead the Mountain Hawks to wins in 34 out of 49 meetings with the Leopards. Junior Sammy Stipa is the only Lafayette player to start in every game this year. Senior Harriet Ottewill-Soulsby has been the other mainstay in the starting lineup as she has started all but two contests this season. All four of the team s freshmen have seen extended minutes for the Leopards. Freshman Sarah Agnello has made nine starts, while Alexis Santarelli and Olivia Gumbs have made seven starts apiece. Tasha Vipond has also been a key contributor. In 10 games this year, the Leopards have had at least two players eclipse the double-digit scoring mark. Gumbs leads the Leopards with seven double-digit scoring games on the year, while senior Maia Hood and Stipa each have six. In three of the last five games, the Leopards have had three players score in double figures in a single outing. At Army on Jan. 5, three freshmen reached double-digits, marking the first time this season that the Leopards had three players score in double-figures. Hood has been the only player to reach double-figures multiple times during those three games. The Leopards have found much of their success on the offensive end this season in the second half. Through 19 games, the Leopards have scored 508 second-half points compared to 433 in the first. LAFAYETTE PROJECTED STARTERS Pos. Entering 2016-17, Grentz has had 31 winning seasons in 34 years on the sidelines. She claimed the final AIAW National Championship as head coach at Rutgers in 1981-82, and reached the NCAA Tournament in 14 of 25 eligible seasons while leading Rutgers and Illinois. Grentz was officially announced as the sixth head coach in Lafayette women s basketball history by director of athletics Bruce McCutcheon on April 20, 2015. Grentz first joined the staff as an assistant in October, 2014. During her seven-year absence from the sidelines, Grentz served as the former Vice President for University Advancement at her alma mater, Immaculata. She also founded Grentz Elite Coaching, a basketball teaching academy based in West Chester, Pa., which runs camps and clinics across the country. A 16-time coach of the year, Grentz led the USA National Team to gold medals at the FIBA World Championships and the Goodwill Games in 1990. She later the guided the national team to a bronze medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. At the time of her hiring at Rutgers, Grentz became the first full-time women s basketball coach in the country. She would go on to win a program-record 434 games for the Scarlet Knights, including four Atlantic-10 championships and make nine-straight NCAA appearances.

Jessica Mudry - 79 (1992-96) 2016-17 LEHIGH WOMEN S BASKETBALL GAME 19: LAFAYETTE PAGE 3 WILL IT END AT 10? Lehigh is in the midst of its longest losing streak since the team was on a 15-game skid that spanned the 1993-94 and 1994-95 seasons. The current 10 game streak is the third longest losing streak in school history. The longest losing streak in school history is 21 games, spanning the 1991-92 and 1992-93 seasons. ROLLING PAST THE LEOPARDS Lehigh will look to continue its recent dominance of Lafayette, having won 15 of the last 19 matchups dating back to March 2008. During that time, Lehigh has had winning streaks of six games, four games, and a pair of two game streaks. POINTS FROM PASCOE Over her last three games, sophomore Hailey Pascoe is averaging 13.7 ppg, and is shooting 43.8 percent (14-for-32) overall, including a sizzling 50 percent (10-for-20) from three-point range. At Holy Cross on Jan. 14, she set career-highs with 16 points and four three-pointers. TOP WO MANN AT THE LINE After going 7-for-7 at the free throw line over the last two games, junior Quinci Mann holds the highest free throw percentage in the Patriot League at 87.9 percent (58-for-66). The percentage also ranks her 26th in the entire country in that category. NO REASON TO BOO-HER Freshman Camryn Buhr was a force for Lehigh on Wednesday against Navy, setting career-highs of 15 points, two steals and her first career-three pointer. She also added 8 rebounds, one shy of her career-high. She scored nine points in a row during the third quarter, helping to tie the game and take the lead after being down by 18 points. OLE RELIABLE Junior Quinci Mann has remained consistent even through the team s current losing streak, averaging 18.7 ppg and 2.0 rebounds per game through the first eight games of the season, and 14.4 points and 4.1 rebounds in the 10 games since. Mann has scored in double figures in 14 of her 17 games this season, and scored at least 20 points in seven of those games. She has scored a season-high 23 points twice: 11/22 at Mount St. Mary s and 12/11 at California. INCHING CLOSER TO THE MILESTONE Quinci Mann enters Saturday s game with 936 career points, just 64 shy of being the 18th player in program history to reach 1,000 points for her career. She is averaging 16.2 points per game this season, good enough for second in the Patriot League. TELL TALE SIGNS? Lehigh holds a 1-11 record this year when trailing at halftime. Their lone win when losing at the half came against Delaware State on Nov. 16. Their only defeat when winning at halftime this year came on Jan. 2 vs. Boston U. The Mountain Hawks are 0-1 when tied at the half (Army). Lehigh is also a mere 1-11 when losing the rebounding battle, with the one win coming over Delaware State. TRYING TO END THE SLOW START Lehigh is off to its first 0-7 start in Patriot League play since they began the 1991-92 league schedule 0-10. SERVING THEM UP Freshman point guard Hannah Hedstrom is currently fifth in the Patriot League by averaging 3.4 assists per game. During league play, Hedstrom ranks second in the PL with 4.3 assists per game. She is the only freshman ranked in the top 10 overall and is tied for the most assists in one game this season: nine against Delaware State on Nov. 16. WHAT S RETURNING? This feat that has happened twice - the first quarter at Duquesne on Nov. 13 (30), and the fourth quarter against Boston University on Jan. 4 (37). On the flip side, three Patriot League teams have scored 30 in a quarter this season: American (30) vs. UMBC, Army West Point (32) vs. Mercy, and Boston University (37) at Lehigh. NO DECEMBER CHEER THIS YEAR Lehigh s current 10-game skid spanned the entire month of December. It marked the first time Lehigh has finished a month winless (excluding March) since Nov. 2003 (0-4). Lehigh last had a winless December in 2002 (0-5). Lehigh went 0-1 in March 06 and 0-2 in March 13. THE MAGIC NUMBER IS 70 Lehigh holds a 4-1 record in games this year where they have scored at least 70 points, with the only setback coming to Army West Point. They are 1-12 when scoring under 70, including a 1-5 mark when scoring in the 60 s. Lehigh is averaging 79 points in their wins and 57 in their losses. POLARIZING ON THE BOARDS Lehigh ranks fourth in the Patriot League by collecting 38.4 rebounds per game, but comes in 9th/10 by allowing 42.4 boards per game. Overall, Lehigh s rebounding margin of -4.2 ranks 8th. Lehigh has been outrebounded in 12 of their 17 games this season and hold a 1-11 record in those games. 2016-17 LEHIGH WOMEN S BASKETBALL GAME 19: LAFAYETTE PAGE 6 Scoring Leaders: Lehigh: Camryn Buhr (15) Bernadette Devaney (12) Navy: Hannah Fenske (14) Taylor Dunham and Ashanti Kennedy (12) LAST TIME OUT FOR LEHIGH JANUARY 18, 2017 NAVY 66, LEHIGH 64 BETHLEHEM, Pa. A three-pointer as time expired from Navy s Taylor Dunham lifted the Midshipmen past Lehigh 66-64 on Wednesday night at Stabler Arena. The shot from nearly 40 feet away thwarted what had been a furious comeback for the Mountain hawks, who trailed by as many as 18 points in the opening half. Freshman Camryn Buhr netted a career and game high 14 points and added eight rebounds. Junior Bernadette Devaney scored 12 points and was 4-for-5 from three-point range, sophomore Hailey Pascoe scored 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting, and freshman Gena Grundhoffer had nine points and seven rebounds. Freshman Hannah Hedstrom scored eight points and six rebounds, and junior Quinci Mann scored six points and added a career-best eight rebounds. The loss was Lehigh s 10th in a row as they fall to 5-13 (0-7 Patriot), while Navy remains in second place in the league at 13-5 (6-1 Patriot). Lehigh out-rebounded Navy 44-36 in the game. The Mids shot 8-for-19 (42.1 percent) from threepoint range and 40 percent overall, while Lehigh was 10-of-27 (37 percent) from three and 25-of-69 (36.2 percent) overall. They re going to be disappointed at letting this one go, said head coach Sue Troyan. It s the third or fourth time in a close league game that we haven t finished. There s certainly plenty to take away in terms of positives and we just have to learn from the negative things and continue to get better. Navy opened up the game by hitting their first five shots to hold a 13-7 lead four minutes in. Buhr and Mann each hit layups, sandwiched around a three-pointer from Pascoe for Lehigh s points. Grundhoffer sank a jumper and Mae Williams hit one from long range to get Lehigh to within 13-12, before Navy bridged the first and second quarters with a 17-0 run, scoring the final 10 points of the first quarter to hold a 23-13 lead after one. Navy finished the first quarter shooting 4-for-5 from three-point range and 7-for-15 overall, while Lehigh was 5-for-14 with a pair of threes. Lehigh ended the Mids run at the 5:32 mark of the second quarter to make it 30-14, before Navy upped the lead back to a game-high 18 points for the third time with exactly three minutes left until halftime. From there, Lehigh closed the half on an 11-2 run to cut the lead down to single digits going into the break. Devaney drilled a three-pointer to start the run, followed by two free throws each from Hedstrom and Mann, and a jumper from Mann in the closing seconds to make it 37-28. Trailing 45-37 midway through the third quarter, Buhr gave the Mountain Hawks a huge spark, igniting a 12-2 run to end the quarter and giving Lehigh a 49-47 lead heading into the fourth quarter. After a Devaney three to make it 45-40, Buhr ran off nine points in a row, putting back her own misses on two straight trips down the floor, both times to get Lehigh within three points. After a Navy miss, Buhr stepped up and drained home her lone three of the game to knot it at 47-47 with 1:44 on the clock. On the next possession, she collected another offensive board and put in the layup that gave Lehigh the two-point edge. Devaney began the fourth quarter with a three-pointer to give Lehigh a five-point lead at 52-47. After Navy tied it, Pascoe put Lehigh back up with another triple. Navy eventually gained a 58-57 lead with 5:19 to play and the two teams would answer each other over the next four minutes. Buhr added a layup to put Lehigh back up with 4:23 to play and after several empty possessions by both teams, Hedstrom s jumper gave Lehigh a 61-60 lead with 1:04 left. With 40 seconds remaining, Dunham banked in a line drive three-pointer to put Navy up 63-61. After a timeout, Devaney drilled what looked to be the difference maker with a three-pointer from the right wing with 13.7 seconds remaining to give LU the 64-63 lead. After Navy missed a jumper with six seconds left, Hedstrom hauled in the rebound and Lehigh called timeout. Navy, who had four fouls to give, fouled once with 2.1 seconds left, before stealing the ensuing inbounds pass and calling timeout with 0.6 seconds left. Navy, who was already in the bonus, inbounded the ball from in front of their own bench. Ashanti Kennedy hit Dunham, who quickly turned to her right and put up a near 40-footer and swished it home as the horn sounded, sparking off a wild celebration for the Midshipmen. They re learning lessons for us and we ve been in these situations quite a few times and just have to learn and get better from it, Troyan said. We played one of the better teams in the league and I firmly believe there s a lot of parity in the league and we ll be able to compete with anybody.
