National Ski Team 2017-18 Selection Criteria Eligibility The SSA will consider for selection only those SSA members in good standing who have a valid FIS license, and have completed physical testing in line with the NAC Protocol in May of the current year. Furthermore, an athlete shall be ineligible for consideration if previously suspended or removed from team membership without having been reinstated by the National Committee (NAC). Also, athletes who have previously declined an offer of team membership shall not be automatically offered team membership regardless of results achieved during the competition season unless that athlete specifically requests consideration from the SSA Program Director and the Chairman of the NAC. Team status does not guarantee funding from the NAC or SSA for competition or preparation. Athletes who have been given individual performance criteria to meet will be subject to those specific criteria and not to general criteria as outlined below. Athletes must adhere to the SSA Values and Code of Conduct in order to be eligible for selection. Qualification Standards Athletes that have achieved an A, B, C or Development Qualification Standard are all members of the National Ski Team. Athletes who meet U19 Team criteria are not National Ski Team members. Varying levels of program support may be applied in accordance with the level of qualification achieved. Selections will be made off the annual FIS Base List. Participation Requirements All selected athletes must participate in the following events, relevant to their Team status, failure to do so will result in removal of team status: Team Status ALP/SX Com AUS NC/NJC National Skills Assessment Phsycal Testing 2x Yearly NAST A X NAST B X NAST C X X X NAST D X X X X U19 X X X X Physical Benchmarks All athletes meeting the above criteria are expected to meet the minimum fitness standards set out by the NAC. The Program Director will coordinate two mandatory testing periods per year, in May and October. Athletes that do not meet the minimum fitness standards in the May test window will be expected to show improvement in the October test window, if not their Team status may be revoked. Athletes must take part in State based testing organised by SSA. Medical Clearance All athletes named to the team will require a medical clearance for participation. This must be completed by a qualified physician, in accordance with the NAC screening protocol. Once named, the Program Director will contact the athlete for appropriate paperwork and instruction. Medical clearance must be obtained prior to athlete participation in team projects. Athlete Injury Clause Athlete's return from injury will fall completely under Program Director s jurisdiction. In order to receive team status an athlete must follow a prescribed rehabilitation or medical program. Selection may be based upon a return to physical fitness level or competitive form. Compliance and Monitoring Selection and Provisional selection to the National Ski Team is subject to each selected athlete signing an SSA athlete agreement and: Complete and submit their IPP (Individual Performance Plan) detailing their annual training and competition plan also detailing coach, manager and athlete contact details to the Program Director Undertaking a biannual performance program review with the Program Director as part of the athlete performance management process Agreeing to participate in the development of an annual Strength and Conditioning as coordinated by the Program Director Ongoing compliance with Athlete reporting requirements including the timely completion of training diaries and monitoring systems as implemented by the Program Director 3 P age
Provisional Selection At the discretion of the Selectors, provisional selection may be made when an athlete has not met the team criteria. Discretionary selection is considered with the following variables in mind: Competition results within circuits of credit World Ranking Junior World ranking where applicable Age of athlete Physical maturity and ability as assessed through a battery of tests Mental capacity and development Attitude and potential Approach and temperament of the athlete Professionalism towards team and supporters Ability to fully commit to team functions On the guidance from National Coaches to retain current members of particular squads/ teams Provisional selection does not necessarily confer any right to access funding/support benefits that may otherwise be available to athletes that meet the normal standards for selection to the National Team. The initial provisional period is 1 July to 31 October with re-evaluation post the Southern Winter and Spring Conditioning camps. Final provisional selections for the Northern Winter will be published post the October NAC meeting. Final interpretation of this criterion lies with the National Committee Executive, which will be advised by the Selectors. Timing Team selections will be made from the FIS base list which is published in the middle of June each year. The October selections will be made from the most current FIS list. June selection The June selections will be made from the FIS Base List which is published in the middle of June each year. Unless otherwise stated, selections will be for the period 1 July to 30 June in the following calendar year. October selection October selection provides a means for including new athletes to the team based on southern winter performance. Selections will be announced in October and team status run until April 30th. Appeal The appeal process concerning the selection or non-selection of an athlete for various National Teams and for international events will follow the process as detailed in the SSA Appeals Policy Removal from a team or event Any athlete who: breaches or fails to observe this Policy or the related team and event selection policies; breaches or fails to observe any provision of the SSA Constitution or bylaws; 4 P age
by reason of illness or injury is unable to perform to the required standard in the opinion of the Program Director (after having received advice from a medical practitioner); breaches or fails to fulfil a requirement of the SSA Anti-Doping Policy; breaches or fails to comply, fulfil and observe the requirements in the Athlete Agreement is ineligible for selection to, or continued membership of, the national team as the case may be. Any athlete may be removed from any selected team or event by the NAC on recommendation from the Program Director as the circumstances may require including where the athlete has failed to sustain his or her performance and attitude to a satisfactory level as measured by results or adherence to strength and conditioning programs, provided that the required performance levels had first been discussed with the athlete and the athlete had been given the opportunity to attain those performance levels within a defined timeframe. 5 P age
