FROM: Tom Fuller P.O. Box 939 Chatom, Alabama 251 513 1499 tef@tokh.com For Immediate Release The Alabama Stock Horse Association, an affiliate of the American Stock Horse Association, is bringing a very successful Stock Horse Show format to the State of Alabama. This format has been tested and proved in Texas as the Stock Horse of Texas (SHOT) program. The first event for 2009 will be conducted at the Southeastern Livestock Exposition in Montgomery, Alabama. It will include a clinic on the first day with the show following on the next day. The affordable Clinic will be conducted from 9:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M. on Monday, March 2, and the show will be the following day on March 3, 2009. The show will begin at 8:00 A.M. The all day clinic will feature highly skilled teachers who are also highly skilled horse people. Dr. Kris Wilson, Assistant Professor and Ranch Horse Team Coach at Texas Tech University and Jimbo Humphreys, West Texas Rancher and Horse Trainer will teach the clinic. Both men are excellent teachers and accomplished horsemen. Each of them has won many Ranch and Stock Horse Championships in the past few years. They will be assisted in the clinic by some of the members of the Texas Tech Ranch Horse Team. The focus and emphasis of this Stock Horse program is education. Its purpose is to reach out to the forgotten horse people who have a nice horse and just don t know what to do next or how to do it. This program is designed to help common, ordinary horse people to ride a better horse through learning what they need to do and how to do it in order to create a better horse that is a pleasure to own and is fun and safe to ride. A person may ride any horse they choose when they participate in ASHA Clinic or Show. They are not required to own the horse. The horse does not have to be registered. The horse can be a gaited horse or a stock type horse. The horse does not even have to be a horse. A person may show a mule or a donkey if they prefer. The qualities that make a good, safe ranch or stock horse are the same qualities that make a good trail horse or pleasure horse or any kind of horse that a person just wants to ride and have fun on. This event is for everyone. All are welcome, regardless of their experience or level of skill. All one needs is an equine to ride and a desire to make that equine better. Those who participate in the clinic on Monday are not required to participate in the show on Tuesday. Less skilled riders have divisions they can show in that are designed specifically for horse people who need to develop more skill and gain more experience in showing Stock Horses. As they gain skill and experience, they may move up to a more challenging division when and if they choose. This show features five divisions and four classes. The five divisions are: Open, Non Pro, Limited Non Pro, Novice and Youth. The four classes for each division are: Stock Horse Pleasure, Stock Horse Trail, Stock Horse Reining and Stock Horse Cow Horse Class. For additional information, call Tommy Fuller at 251 513 1499, e mail, tef@tokh.com. The SHOT hand book will include all rules and regulations. Go to www.stockhorsetexas.org and click on Handbook. AND: If you join the American Stock Horse Association, if you don't mind, indicate that your were recruited by the Alabama Stock Horse Association
