HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION Most important hazards Effects of Acute Overexposure / Potential Health Effects Eyes: Exposure causes eye irritation. Symptoms may include stinging, tearing, redness and swelling. Skin: Exposure may cause mild skin irritation, prolonged or repeated exposure may dry the skin. Symptoms may include redness, burning, cracking and skin burns. Pre existing skin disorders may be aggravated by exposure to this material. Skin absorption is possible, but pre-existing skin disorders may be aggravated by exposure to this material. Skin absorption is possible, but harmful effects are not expected from this route of exposure under normal conditions of handling and use. Breathing: Exposure to vapor or mist is possible. Short-term inhalation toxicity is low. Breathing small amounts during normal handling is not likely to cause harmful effects; breathing large amounts may be harmful. Symptoms are more typically seen at air concentrations exceeding the recommended exposure limits. Symptoms of exposure may include: Irritation (nose, throat, respiratory tract) pre-existing lung disorder, e.g. asthma-like conditions, may be aggravated by exposure to this material. Impaired coordination, confusion, central nervous system depression (dizziness, drowsiness, weakness, fatigue, nausea, headache, unconsciousness, low blood pressure, coma. Swallowing: Single dose oral toxicity is swallowing small amounts during normal handling is not likely to cause harmful effects; swallowing large amounts may be harmful. Symptoms may include gastrointestinal irritation (nausea, vomiting diarrhea) impaired coordination, central nervous system depression (dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, nausea, headache, unconsciousness), respiratory depression, low blood pressure, effects on heart rate, mild, reversible liver effects, pulmonary edema (swelling and collection of fluid in the lungs), kidney damage, coma. 1

Effects of Chronic Overexposure / Potential Health Effects This material (or a component) has been shown to cause harm to the fetus in laboratory animal studies. Harm to the fetus occurs only at exposure levels that harm the pregnant animal. The relevance of these findings to humans is uncertain. Based on the available information, this material cannot be classified with regard to carcinogenicity. This material is not listed as a carcinogen by IARC, NTP or OSHA. Overexposure to this material (or its components) has been suggested as a cause of the following effects in laboratory animals, and may aggravate pre existing disorders of these organs in humans: mild, reversible liver effects. 4. FIRST AID MEASURES General information Primary route(s) of entry: Inhalation, skin absorption, skin contact, eye contact. Inhalation If symptoms develop, immediately move individual away from exposure and into fresh air. Seek immediate medical attention; keep person warm and calm. If person is not breathing, begin artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, administer oxygen. Skin contact Remove contaminated clothing. Wash exposed area with soap and water. If symptoms persist, seek medical attention. Launder clothing before re-use. Eye contact If symptoms develop, immediately move individual away from exposure and into fresh air. Flush eyes gently with water for at least 15 minutes while holding eyelids apart; seek immediate medical attention. Ingestion Seek medical attention. If individual is drowsy or unconscious, do not give anything by mouth; place individual on their left side with the head down. If individual is conscious and alert, induce vomiting by giving syrup of IPECA or by gently placing two fingers at the back of the throat. If possible, do not leave individual unattended. 5. FIRE-FIGHTING MEASURES Suitable extinguishing media Carbon dioxide, dry chemical, foam or water mist for small fires. Use alcohol type or all purpose type foam by manufacturers recommended for large fires. Extinguishing media which must not be used for safety reasons Do not spray a solid stream of water or foam directly into a pool of hot, burning liquid as this may cause frothing, and may intensify the fire. Use self-contained breathing apparatus when fighting fire in an enclosed area. Hazardous decomposition products Special protective equipment for firefighters Wear self contained breathing apparatus and protective suit. 2

Further information Unusual fire & explosion hazard Never use welding or cutting torch on or near drum (even empty) because product (even residue) can ignite explosively. All five gallon pails and larger metal containers including tank cars and tank trucks should be grounded and / or bonded when material is transferred. Vapors are heavier then air and may travel along the ground or may be moved by ventilation and ignited by pilot lights, other flames, sparks, heaters, smoking, electric motors, static discharge, or other ignition sources at locations distant from material handling point. Sensitivity to Static Discharge Sensitivity to Static Discharge is expected; material has a flash point of below 200 F 6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES Personal precautions Environmental precautions Methods for cleaning up Small Spill Wipe, scrape or soak up in an inert material and put in a container for disposal. Wash walking surfaces with detergent and water to reduce slippery hazard. Large Spill Eliminate all ignition sources (flares, flame, including pilot lights, electrical sparks). Individuals not wearing Protective equipment should be excluded from area of spill until clean-up has been completed. Stop spill at source. Prevent from entering drains, sewers, streams or other bodies of water. Prevent from spreading. If runoff occurs, notify authorities as required. Pump or vacuum transfer spilled product to clean containers for recovery. Absorb unrecoverable product. Transfer contaminated absorbent, soil and other materials to containers for disposal. 7. HANDLING AND STORAGE Handling / Storage Containers of this material may be hazardous when emptied, since emptied containers retain product residues (vapor, liquid and / or solid) WARNING: Sudden release of hot organic chemical vapors or mists from process equipment operating at elevated temperature and pressure or sudden ingress of air into vacuum equipment, may result in ignitions without the presence of obvious ignition sources. Published auto ignition or ignition temperature values cannot be treated as safe operating temperatures in chemical processes without analysis of the actual process conditions. Any use of this product in elevated temperature processes should be thoroughly evaluated to establish and maintain safe operating conditions. Technical measures/precautions Safe handling advice Technical measures/storage conditions Incompatible products 3

8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS / PERSONAL PROTECTION Effects of Singe Over exposure Swallowing: If swallowed seek medical attention. If person is drowsy or unconscious, do not give any solid or liquid by mouth. Place person on the left side with the head down. If person is conscious and alert, induce vomiting by giving syrup of IPECAC or by gently placing two fingers at the back of the throat. If possible do not leave person unattended. Engineering measures to reduce exposure Personal protection equipment Respiratory protection A NIOSH / MSHA approved air supplied respirator is advised in absence of proper environmental control. OSHA regulations also permit other NIOSH / MSHA respirators (negative pressure type) under specified conditions (see your industrial hygienist). Engineering or administrative controls should be implemented to reduce exposure. Hand protection Eye protection Chemical splash goggles in compliance with OSHA regulations are advised. However OSHA regulations also permit other types of safety glasses. Consult your safety representative. Skin and body protection 9.
