SKI SCHOOL ESF (Ecole du Ski Francais) The French Ski School is renowned for quality and tradition and have been teaching skiing in the valley since 1938. The ski school has 140 professionals - instructors and mountain guides, who are able to teach from beginner level, all the way through to perfecting the skills of the expert skier - on and off piste, slalom, snowboarding, snow blading, freestyle, cross country skiing, biathlon and snowshoeing. The school offer the traditional 6 days of morning or afternoon lessons throughout the season with a maximum of 8 or 10 students per class plus the possibility to book both sessions at a reduced price (lunchtimes are not included). In addition, ESF Vallandry offer Smart Lessons for children which are held during the lunchtime period in school holidays where the class sizes are reduced to a maximum of 6 students per class at all levels. All lessons are taught in English with small and friendly groups. All Instructors are fully qualified and are able to teach all levels of skiers or boarders from the base in Vallandry. They also offer a number of special lessons or clinics aimed at specific skills improvements. Not all lessons will run every week depending on the availability of instructors and the booking demand so it is essential to check with us regarding availability and to book early. As soon as you make your booking, we will check with the ski school and will confirm back to you within a few days. Adult Ski Levels Level Description 1 This is my first time 2 I have tried skiing before, on snow or on a dry slope. I have started to snowplough on the nursery slopes. 3 I am confident snowploughing on green and blue runs and my skis are sometimes parallel towards the end of the turn 4 I am nearly parallel but often use a small plough to start a turn 5 I am competent parallel skier and can ski red runs in good conditions but find it a struggle when it gets bumpmy, steeper, icy or the snow gets deep 6 I am an advanced parallel skier that can ski all reds, and blacks as well, providing they are not excessively steep or bumpy 7 I can ski most places. Prices for a full time nanny for a week are approximately 700 to 800 for one child the ratios of children to nannies depend on the age of the children and also the charges made for additional children vary between the companies. EQUIPMENT RENTAL We work only with the major suppliers who are able to provide top quality equipment at all levels in all resorts. A basic description of the ski levels is as follows to help you select the right level for your needs: Bronze Economy (Skis) Lowest price reliable equipment for the skier on a budget equipment which has been downgraded from silver and gold levels due to its age skis in their third year of use and not recommended unless you are trying to keep the costs very low. Silver Discovery (Skis and Boards) Skis designed for a beginner or low intermediate looking for easy to manage skis on the slopes and quality boots for comfort. Gold Sensation (Skis and Boards) For intermediate or advanced skiers looking to maximize their performance and ability. Equipment maximum of two years old. This level allows customers to change their equipment up to three times during the week (from Monday to Thursday) subject to availability at the shop and limited to once per day. Platinum Excellence (Skis) Top quality new models plus the specialist skis such as off piste or twin tips for good skiers. High quality boots for very good support. Equipment maximum one year old. MiniKid (Skis) Skis for very young children up to and including five years of age ski lengths from 70cm to 90cm. Ski lengths are from 100cm to 150cm equipment is a maximum of three years old. Junior Champion (Skis and Boards) High quality skis and snowboards for children aged six to eleven inclusively after they have skied a couple of weeks. The skis adapt to suit the ability and level. Lengths are between 100cm and 150cm, including race skis and twin tips as well as junior snowboards. Our discounted rates below are for service at the local shop and are for pre-bookings only. Prices are between 40% and 60% discounted from the standard public prices - depending on the level. Our prices also off you 7 days for the price of 6 days so 7 th day is free. Gold Sensation and Platinum levels allow you to change the equipment during the week to try out different skis or boards or to switch from one to the other. Please note A ski pack consists of skis, boots and poles and does NOT include a helmet which must be added separately if required.
