Road Trip Review The Giants opened the season with a 4-3 road trip. San Jose split four games at Inland Empire to begin the year before winning two of three against Lancaster. The Giants have won four out of their last five games overall after dropping two straight to start the season. Cycle x2 Yesterday was an historic night for the San Jose Giants as both Gio Brusa and Jalen Miller hit for the cycle in an 18-6 victory at Lancaster. Brusa (4-for-6, 2B, 3B, HR, 6 RBI) completed his cycle with a triple in the top of the eighth. Miller (5-for-7, 2B, 3B, HR, 4 RBI, SB), who tied a Giants single-game team record with five hits, tripled in the ninth inning for San Jose s second cycle of the night. The duo became the fourth and fifth players in the 31-year history of the San Jose Giants to hit for the cycle. Prior to last night, the last SJ Giant to hit for the cycle was Thomas Neal on April 28, 2009 at Lancaster. Pitching Shines Early The Giants enter tonight s contest with a stellar 2.25 team ERA through the first seven games of the season. San Jose has two shutouts already this year. The Giants starting rotation boasts a combined 1.30 ERA (4 ER/27.1 IP). Offensive Outburst San Jose erupted offensively last night with season-high totals of 18 runs and 25 hits in Lancaster. The 25 hits was one shy of matching the team single-game record (26 hits, 5/13/2010 at Visalia). The Giants were 12-for-26 with runners in scoring position yesterday after going 10-for-61 w/risp (.164 AVG) in the season s first six games. San Jose s nine home runs this year rank second in the league. Smith, Samardzija Set To Rehab In San Jose San Francisco Giants pitchers Will Smith and Jeff Samardzija are scheduled to play for the San Jose Giants during this opening home series. Smith, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery and hasn t pitched in a major league game since October 2016, is set to join San Jose tonight. Samardzija is returning from a pectoral strain suffered during spring training last month and is slated to make the start for San Jose on Saturday. San Francisco Affiliation This year marks San Jose s 31st season as an affiliate of the San Francisco Giants the longest current partnership in the California League. Since their inception in 1988, the San Jose Giants have won six league championships (1998, 2001, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010), 11 North Division titles and qualified for the playoffs 22 times (in 30 seasons). San Jose has reached the playoffs in 12 out of the last 14 seasons. Returning Players 11 players on the opening day roster have prior experience with the San Jose Giants: C Jeff Arnold (2012-13, 2015 in San Jose), 1B Gio Brusa (2016-17), RHP Michael Cederoth (2017), LHP Carlos Diaz (2015-17), OF Johneshwy Fargas (2016-17), RHP Rodolfo Martinez (2016-17), LHP Conner Menez (2016-17), 2B Jalen Miller (2017), OF Heath Quinn (2016-17), RHP Dylan Rheault (2017) and C Matt Winn (2017).
