This is to certify that the: PFA & SPSG North Sea herring Has been certified as compliant with the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) Fisheries Standard The client for the fishery is: Pelagic Freezer-Trawler Association (PFA) Louis Braillelaan 80, Zoetermeer, 2719 EK, The Netherlands Scottish Pelagic Sustainability Group (SPSG) 1 Firthside Street, Fraserburgh, AB43 9AR This certified fishery, as defined in attached schedule, has the right to claim that it is a Well Managed and Sustainable Fishery in accordance with the MSC s Principles and Criteria for Sustainable Fishing

Certificate schedule UNITS OF CERTIFICATION Definition: Target stock(s) combined with the fishing method/gear and practice (including vessel type/s) pursuing that stock, and any fleets, or groups of vessels, or individual fishing operators that are covered by the MSC fishery certificate. Note that other eligible fishers may also be included in some Units of Assessment but not initially certified (until covered by a certificate sharing arrangement). Applies to UoCs 1 & 2 Other Eligible Fishers: Operators of other North Sea Herring Fisheries based on agreement of code of conduct and contribution to costs (to be agreed). Please note that whilst Units of Certification detail the full extent of what was assessed it is the full and complete Public Certification report April 2017 that precisely defines the exact nature of certification for this fishery.

THE POINT(S) AT WHICH FISH AND FISH PRODUCTS MAY ENTER A CHAIN OF CUSTODY Separate chain of custody certification will be required from the points of landing. In accordance with Commission Regulation (EC) No 1542/2007 of 20 December 2007 on landing and weighing procedures pelagic species such as herring (and exceeding a combined volume of 10 tonnes) must be made at designated EU and non-eu landing sites, where there are appropriate facilities for recording and monitoring landings, as listed in Public Certification Report April 2017.

THE PARTIES, OR CATEGORIES OF PARTIES, THAT ARE ENTITLED TO USE THIS CERTIFICATE TO ENTER FISH FROM THE CERTIFIED FISHERY INTO CERTIFIED CHAINS OF CUSTODY Any vessels which are members of either the Pelagic Freezer-Trawler Association (PFA) or the Scottish Pelagic Sustainability Group (SPSG) and operating in accordance with Units of Certification are eligible to use this certificate. A list of vessels to which this applies can be found the MSC website.
