Missed James May with a wrist injury from his SAPSASSA commitments during the week hope it heals quickly and he will be back in a couple of weeks. For 2 and a half quarters the game was conjested and static. The Mount Barker team controlled the ball but it spent most of its time in the midfield. So much so we had to move our full forward and full back so they could get involved in the play. Enjoyed watching the improvement in the players this week especially Robert Powell who started in the ruck was moved to CHF and was a real go to player for the forward advances in the last quarter. The persistance and team work was encouraging and the display of football skills was great to watch. Half way through the third quarter the boys started to get some fast ball movement and use our outside players this ball movement rolled in the last quarter when we kicked 4 goals. Little reminder to the players to let the umpire umpire and we play the ball. Training this week Monday 4.30 to 5.30 and Wednesday 4.30 to 6.00 next Saturday 2 June at home against Mt Lofty. Under 13 (Gold): Mount Barker 3-3 (21) defeated Blackwood 2-4 (16) Best Players: Sam Todd, Michael Veale, Braydon Gallas, Max Glover, Jack Paech Goal Kickers: Brayden Little, Jack Paech, Jesse Amos Match Report: Travelled up to sunny Blackwood for a Friday night game at 7pm. Last time we played Blackwood they defeated us by 9 goals. So we were in for a challenge. We won the toss and decided go dow hill. We kicked the first and only goal for that quarter. Blackwood came back strong in the 2nd and 3rd quarter by kicking the next 2 goals. So it was up to the boys to take on the challenge going uphill to win. They finally started to give that handball behind and running to create space. By doing that it frees up the man that you are going to kick to. In that way we kicked the next goal which left us 1 point behind with 5 minutes to play. The boys kept it in our forward 50 with Jesse (Tony Modra) Amos taking a mark with 10 seconds to go. And of course he didn't miss. Well done boys. It goes to prove the handball and running game works. Special mentions: Michael B and Sam H played a good game in the back pocket. Seeing an opportunity to get the ball 30 metres in front of them and going for it hard. Matt reliable at full back again. Max running off the half back flank and getting to the ball first makes a big difference. Jack C and Braydon G changing at centre half back to ruck not the easiest job to do but they showed they had the confidence to do it. Michael V and Marcus changing from the half back flank to on the ball showed determination, smothering the footy and doing all the hard work. Cain and Tyson on the wing staying that kick behind and rebound the footy starts to show they are really listening. Captain Daniel in the centre started to really get into the game and getting
lots of marks and kicks. Brayden L and Sam T changing at centre half forward, another hard position to read but both did a great job. Baylee, Liam, Dan and Bryce they all had a quarter on the interchange and well done for the hard work they do when they do get on the ground. Jack P great last quarter and the goal to get us within a point. And then Jesse the hard work he did to bring the ball to the ground for our crummers and kicking the goal after the siren. Well done, don't let it go to your head. We have Hahndorf this Saturday at Mt Barker after the A Grade at 5pm. Hahndorf are a very good running team, so we will have our work cut out for us. See you on the track Monday night at training. Next Week: Under 13 (Central): Mount Barker V Mount Lofty@ Roo Park Under 13 (Gold): Mount Barker V Hahndorf @ Roo Park (Saturday, 5pm) Joey News Under 11 (White): Hahndorf 9-6 (60) defeated Mount Barker White 2-4 (16) Best Players: Harrison Wallace, Tom Glover, Ben Kneebone, Jonathon Henderson Goal Kickers: Hayden Massey, Lachlan Linke Match Report:: A tough game for our team but the score does not reflect the quality of the game. Hahndorf were kept scoreless in the second quarter and the score only blew out in the last quarter. Our boys continued on from their good performance in round two with great effort at the ball all game. Thanks to Tom Glover from the 10s and Paddy Greig from the Blue team for filling out our team today. We were outclassed and outmuscled by some taller stronger boys today but good opposition raises the skills and allows for improvement in the future. Well done team. Under 11 (Blue): Mount Barker Blue 7-10 (52) defeated Bridgewater 2-3 (15) Best Players: Marshall Howe, Sebastian Rech, Jesse Hill, James Barugaglia. Goal Kickers: Jesse Hill, Luke Webb, Amos Doyle, Scott Bushten, Josh Megaw, Marshall Howe, Riley Kernot. Match Report: Firstly, a big welcome to our newest team member Annabelle Finelli who took the field Saturday in her first game of footy and did a fantastic job. Thank you also to Paul Deer for umpiring and Julie Bell for timekeeping and scoring at very short notice. Well what can I say, our first win for the season and a very convincing one at that.
The boys came out firing kicking 1goal, 5points in the first quarter while keeping Bridgewater goalless. Clearly they were applying all the lessons Gerard has been teaching them this season so far and kept up the pressure and intensity to eventually finish winners by 37 points. WELL DONE BOYS let us keep it up against Lobethal next week Under 10 (Blue): Mount Barker Blue 6-1 (37) defeated Onkaparinga Valley 3-5 (23) Best Players: William Rattray, Kingsley Marston, Alistair Dorshorst, Ethan Field Goal Kickers: Ethan Field, Jake Aish 2; Alistair Dorshorst, Phoenix Lines Match Report: Under 10 (White): Mount Barker 7-13 (55) defeated Uraidla 4-0 (24) Best Players: Duncan Rogers, Joseph Palma, Niall Ward, Brodie Tischer, Owen Lucas Goal Kickers: Josh Graham, Duncan Rogers, Hayden Lane 2; Andrew Landon Match Report: Mount Barker White under 10 team ventured to a very cold and wet Uraidla on Friday Night Captain Brodie Tischer won the toss and we kicked to the scoreboard end. With the inclusion of Duncan Rogers, Sam Weidenhoffer, Andrew Landon & Joseph Palma from the under 9 s we were able to field a team of 16 1 st Quarter The boys got off to a great start in the first quarter with Duncan Rogers & Brodie Tischer dominant in the middle and Callum Tarca & Josh Graham busy up forward as always Duncan finished his good work with 2 great goals 2 nd Quarter The Roos dominance continued in the 2 nd quarter with Hayden Lane providing a target up forward with 2 consecutive goals, Josh Graham kicking 1 midfield of Duncan, Brodie, Bailey Hill & Bailey Gallas again doing some great work 3 rd Quarter The 3 rd Quarter was led by Joseph Palma and his attack on the ball in the middle, Owen Lucas did some strong work up forward with Dylan Middleton-Frew also getting involved Josh Healey and some strong moments as did Mitchell Richards and they both showed their great skills. Andrew Landon got some great reward for his effort and snagged a great goal 4 th Quarter The boys continued to attack the ball hard in the last and with Sam Weidenhoffer & Niall Ward having some good moments and pushing the ball forward allowing Josh Graham to kick his 2 nd Goal. I would like to congratulate the boys on an outstanding effort. The boys tackling and pressure was excellent again, as was there ball usage and looking for players in space and an area the boys improved this week was their picking up of the opposition players well done!
Special thanks to Karl Aish and his 4 under 9s (Joseph, Duncan, Andrew & Sam) who played and in particular their parents for bringing them out on a less than ideal night! Under 9: Mount Barker 9-8 (62) defeated Blackwood 8-5 (53) Best Players: Ethan Field, Bradley Noske Goal Kickers: Bradley Noske 4, Ethan Field 2, Jake Aish, Andrew Landon, Duncan Rogers Match Report: This week the U9's were pushed all the way by Blackwood. At three quarter time it was all square at 7 goals 5. Early in the final quarter Blackwood edged ahead with a well taken goal but the Bakeroos fought back with 2 goals and 3 minor scores to clinch a well deserved win. The young Roos have shown their resolve against tougher opposition however they will need to improve on their defending and clearance kicks if they are to continue their winning ways. Under 8 (Blue): Mount Barker Blue 12-9 (81) defeated Nairne Maroon 4-3 (27) Best Players: Nate Secombe, Charlie Shearer Goal Kickers: Ethan Herter 8; Nate Secomb 2; Blake Laan, Aiden Herter Match Report: We played Nairne maroon on rain drenched Saturday morning at roo park. Despite missing training this week due to poor weather conditions, the boys got straight into the game and adapted to the wet conditions immediately. The boys ability to keep there feet and win the ball was the difference between the two teams a special mention goes to Ethan Herter for kicking eight goals for the game an outstanding effort. Achievement awards Nate Secomb & Charlie Shearer Goal scores Ethan Herter 8, Nate Secomb 2, Blake Laan 1, Aidan Herter 1. Score Mount Barker 12.9.81 Nairne Maroon 4.3.27. Next week we play Onkas at Woodside on Saturday morning 9.00am. Under 8 (White): Mount Barker White 7-7 (49) defeated Lobethal 5-8 (38) Best Players: George Pope, Max May, Jacob McMullen, Anthony Palma Goal Kickers: Max May 3; George Pope 2; Jack Kovacs, Jacob McMullen Match Report: U8 Whites played at home this week against Lobethal, with the boys getting their first taste of wet weather footy. Loby were short so we helped them out with a couple of players. The first three quarters saw a very even game with Mt Baker being one point down at three quarter time. This may have been assisted by one of our lads kicking two goals for Loby in the second quarter while filling in!! The last quarter saw us kicking two goals, one point to their one point and therefore taking the game by 11 points. Again, a great effort by all
