Page 1 SAINT JOHN THE EVANGELIST CATHOLIC SCHOOL April 12, 2013 FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK... So many good things are happening here at SJES, that my head is spinning! Seriously, keep in mind the following items: The last day of school, for students, will be Thursday, June 13. Dismissal will be @ 11:30AM with NO Extended Day Services. Teachers are dismissed at 3PM on June 14. Kindergarten graduation will be Friday, June 7 @ 9:30 AM in Trinity Hall. 8TH Grade Graduation will be Friday, June 7 @ 7:30 PM in the Church, followed by a reception in Trinity Hall. Chick-fil-A is holding a fundraiser for the Torch Drama group on April 18th from 6AM-9PM. Terra Nova standardized testing will commence from April 22-April 26. PLEASE,PLEASE have your children attend all week without interruption. Thank you! The day has finally arrived for me to "pay the piper." I promised the students that if they raised $20,000.00 at the October "Race for Education' fundraiser, I would sleep overnight on the school roof. They did it, and I will be on the roof from 2:30 PM Wednesday, April 17th until 7 AM on Thursday, April 18th. I will have a tent, cushions and sleeping bag, so 'don't cry for me Argentina.' The Fauquier Times Democrat and Christian radio WPRZ will be covering the event. Hopefully, we will get some positive publicity for the school (this is NOT the silliest thing I have done to promote a school). The PTO' s Spring fundraiser is slated for Saturday, April 27th, 6-10:30PM at the school. This year's Casino Night Theme-"Round-Up at St. John's Corral" will be a Western style showdown. Tickets are $50 each, which includes all food, open bar, casino chips and more. Last year was a complete hoot! God bless you all and have a great weekend! Art Fairweather

Page 2 School News A big thank you for all the patron of the arts who came to see the SPARK's production of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Older members of the TORCH Drama Club recently had auditions for their upcoming spring production, Oklahoma! We are in need of few great painting artists for sets, as well as a portable full key-board for music practices in Mercy Hall. The teens sound awesome--having accompaniment for practices would be even better! April 18th will be a Chick-fil-A spirit day for the TORCH Drama Club to help raise funds for royalty fees. Help these young people continue to entertain the community by your enthusiastic support! Coupons can be located in the school office. Contact Chris Galvin for more information at cgalvin@stjohntheevangelistschool.org. Mr. Macdonald is looking for badminton racquets and shuttles. If anyone has either of these items and would be willing to donate them to the Physical Education Program, it would be greatly appreciated. We are still in need of Lego donations for the club. We are looking for loose legos, boxes for the legos or lego building kits. If anyone has any of these or knows someone who does, please let us know. Also, if you have any thoughts or suggestions they are appreciated as well. Parent Rosary Group: The parent Rosary Group meets on Tuesdays in the Music Room after drop off. We will meet to pray for our families, school, parish, and our own special intentions. This will be a great way to build our school community and lift up our voices together in prayer. Little ones are invited to join us and play while we pray. No experience necessary; you don't even have to be Catholic! Guides and Rosaries will be available. Contact Teresa Paccassi for more information: 540-878 6900, tpaccassi@msn.com Please check the lost and found for missing articles. It is overflowing. Page 5 St. John the Evangelist Catholic School Dress Code The dress code provides a standard for our students, which fosters an environment conducive to learning and respectful behavior. Final decisions regarding the school uniform rest with the principal/ administration. Uniform Requirements: School uniforms are to be worn with pride and according to school regulations. St. John students are expected to follow rules of good grooming and modesty. Uniforms are to be clean and in good repair. By complying with school rules regarding the wear of the proper school uniform, children are learning about responsibility and individual pride. All uniforms must be purchased from the designated uniform companies. A uniform non-compliance form will be issued for lack of uniform compliance which must be signed by the parents and returned to school the following day. The second noncompliance will result in calling the parent to pick the student up from school and obtain the correct uniform component out of compliance. The third violation will result in a disciplinary referral signed by the principal and filed in the permanent record. Uniform Guidelines: Shirts must remain neatly tucked in and belts must be worn when wearing pants or shorts. Ties are expected to be pulled up and top shirt buttons buttoned. Girls jumpers and skirts may not be more than two inches above the knee. Middle school girls are required to wear a white camisole under the blouse in the fall and spring when not wearing the vest.
