STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORT Shoalhaven City Turf Club ARCHER RACECOURSE Sunday 4 December 2016 Weather: Fine Track: Good (3) Rail: True STEWARDS: J D Walshe (Chairman), B J Gray & T A McDonald General App Ms C MacFarlane was fined the sum of $50 under LR68 for failing to produce a letter of authority. Prior to the running of Race 1, Official Raceday Veterinarian Dr A Havajia was kicked in the right hand and hip by a runner in the vicinity of the tie-up stall area. After being examined by the Club s ambulance officers and receiving attention to his right hand, Dr Havajia was able to fulfil his official commitments during the course of the racemeeting. RACE 1: Nowra City Holden Classic C, G & E Maiden Handicap 1100m During the loading process, when Sega Dancer, which had been loaded along with several other runners, became unsettled in the gates, all gates inadvertently released simultaneously resulting in Sega Dancer, De Kurnell, Android, Ella Walking and The Moshire all jumping and travelling a relatively short distance before being pulled up by their respective riders. Each runner was examined by the Club s veterinary officer and passed fit to start. De Kurnell Bumped on jumping with Onemorewithme. The Moshire Slow to begin. Was held up near the 200m and after obtaining clear running soon after was inclined to lay in thereafter. Arctic Blast Slow to begin. American Ensign A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding which was obliged to race wide throughout, did not reveal any abnormality. RACE 2: Shoalhaven Ex-Servicemens Club Class 3 Handicap 1400m Your Witness Trainer Mr J Coyle represented at the racemeeting by Ms A Double, was fined the sum of $50 under AR59A for failing to produce the Thoroughbred Identity Card for the gelding. Slow to begin.
Budderoo Knight Stewards considered an objection lodged by the connections of the gelding, which was placed second, against the winner, Giant s Daughter, alleging interference after the 800m. Whilst Stewards were satisfied that Budderoo Knight had established a position to the inside of Giant s Daughter after the 800m and that Budderoo Knight was checked by its rider, they could not be satisfied that, nor did the video evidence support that Giant s Daughter had shifted ground inward and into the rightful running of Budderoo Knight. Rather, the Stewards were of the view that Budderoo Knight, when racing neat to the inside of Giant s Daughter did not negotiate the turn at that part of the race, over-reacted and was checked out across the heels of Giant s Daughter. In those circumstances the objection was dismissed and correct weight was declared on the Judge s placings. Began awkwardly. Gatto Mondo Passing the 1300m, shifted out and bumped Giant s Daughter. Near the 800m and when racing keenly had to be restrained when awkwardly positioned close to the heels of Keymaster. Giant s Daughter Passing the 1300m was bumped by Gatto Mondo, which shifted out. RACE 3: Southern Stones Bar & Rockgrill Benchmark 55 Handicap 1600m Dress Rehearsal Slow to begin. Costa Laquetta Slow to begin. Mr Tickets Pulled hard in the middles stages. Preferred Route Pulled hard in the middle stages. He Winked At Me Passing the 1300m was inclined to over-race and shifted out hampering Dillard. Passing the 800m when racing keenly, became awkward on the heels of Rock Prodigy and had to be shifted out and as a consequence was obliged to race wide for the reminder of the race. Dillard Passing the 1300m was hampered by He Winked At Me, which shifted out. Street Prince On straightening had to be steadied when disappointed for a run between Rock Prodigy and He Winked At Me which laid in. A Pair Of Aces When questioned, rider Ms J Taylor stated that from the 800m her mount felt flat and commenced to lose ground prior to the home turn and as a consequence and as she was of the view that something may be amiss with the gelding, she did not pressure it in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have cardiac arrhythmia. Stable representative Mrs L Singleton was told that the gelding would require the satisfactory results of a veterinary examination, including an ECG, prior to also being required to barrier trial to the Steward s satisfaction before it would be allowed to race again.
RACE 4: Southern Bar & Rockgrill Benchmark 55 Handicap 1600m Millijule A pre-race veterinary examination of the mare which sustained a minor laceration to the bridge of its nose in its tie-up stall, cleared the mare fit to start. Salt Flat Change of tactics: To be ridden more forward; led clearly. When questioned regarding the speed set in the middle stages, rider C Lever stated that in accordance with his instructions, and after being a little slow to begin, he rode his mount his mount forward where he was able to assume the lead. He added that when his mount was inclined to race keenly in the middle stages, and as he had also been instructed to allow the gelding to race comfortably and not to unduly restrain his mount due to it having a breathing issue, whilst he was aware that the pace his mount was setting was fast, he did not make a concerted attempt to steady the gelding. He further added that during the middle stages his mount was also inclined to lay in. Humility When questioned regarding the performance of the mare, rider B Ward stated that his mount was inclined to run in during the back straight, felt uncomfortable in its action and did not run on under pressure in the straight and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare did not reveal any abnormality. RACE 5: Robert Oatley Wines F & M Maiden Handicap 1100m Abundant On jumping was bumped by Time In Motion which shifted out. Back To My Bay Began awkwardly. Atlantic Dreamer After the 800m was bumped heavily by Back To My Bay which made the turn awkwardly and shifted out, and as a consequence of the contact became badly unbalanced. Whilst the interference was predominantly caused by Back To My Bay, M Travers, rider of Severed, which was positioned to the outside of Atlantic Dreamer was cautioned regarding allowing his mount to shift in simultaneously when he was not quite clear to do so. Back To My Bay After the 800m made the turn awkwardly, shifted out and made heavy contact with Atlantic Dreamer. Trainer Mr M Smith was shown a replay of the incident and spoken to regarding the tractability of the mare. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare did not reveal any abnormality. Rider A Banks was reminded of his obligations to ride his mount out fully to the end of the race. Celestial Choice Making the turn near the 750m had to be restrained when tightened for room between Abundant which shifted out slightly and Marlowe Miss (app Ms C MacFarlane) which, when racing greenly, shifted in. App Ms C MacFarlane was told to exercise more care and advised that whilst she initially made effort to prevent her mount from shifting in, she should have continued to apply pressure to her outside rein to prevent her mount s subsequent inward shift. When questioned, rider app T Wolfgram stated that he was told to ride his mount where comfortable. He added however, when the early speed was fast and mount was not able to muster sufficient speed, the mare consequently got further back than was anticipated. He further added that his mount was disadvantaged after receiving interference near the 750m and then enduring a sustained run from the 500m and
had found the line fairly. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare did not reveal any abnormality. Intastella Magic Was held up for clear running on straightening. Severed Ran out over the concluding stages and was not tested close to the line when its rider M Travers was obliged to correct his mount. Time In Motion Slow to begin. When questioned regarding the reasons for the apparent improved performance of the mare, trainer Mr G Vella stated that whilst the mare was resuming today, it had previously not handled rain effected going as was the case when the mare last raced at Cowra on 18 October 2016 when the track was soft, and today it had appreciated the firmer surface. RACE 6: Kinghorn Motor Group Class 2 Handicap 1200m Glib Slow to begin. Aiden Anthony Bumped on jumping by Shee Bee Bossy, which was taken out by Pennington. Mon Bel Ami Slow to begin. RACE 7: Culburra Kitchens & Bathrooms Benchmark 54 Handicap 1100m Ladwell Stable representative Mr R Ruttley was advised that a warning would be recorded against the gelding, which was slow to begin (4L). When questioned, rider J Penza stated that despite the gelding being disadvantaged as a result of its poor start and being obliged to race at the tail of the field, it nevertheless proved disappointing in its failure to run on under pressure in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding did not reveal any abnormality. Mr Ruttley undertook to report any condition which may become apparent in the gelding in the days subsequent.
