Shared-use paths allow multiple modes of travel to interact at various speeds. Depending upon the surrounding environment, shared-use paths could be paved or unpaved. Shared streets are located in urban high density areas with a high level of pedestrians. In these areas the automobile and pedestrian traffic have merged. Vehicle speeds are very low due to the ever present pedestrian. The commercial and civic life created by the concentration of pedestrians justifies the displacement of automobiles. 11
