This long established event will be held at the Mountbatten Centre, Portsmouth and your club is invited to participate. Those who have entered before will know that our objective is to provide an enjoyable tournament day for everyone. Important Notes All entry tickets will be issued on arrival. If in the opinion of the organisers, there are insufficient entries to an event then the entrants will be given the choice of a refund, or where possible, entry into an alternative suitable event of the organisers choosing. This choice will be given on the competition day. Boys & Girls can enter both the freestyle and sambon kumite events. 1 Trophies / medallions will be awarded for 1 st, 2 nd, and joint 3 rd in Kumite and 1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd and 4 th in Kata. 2 All competitors must hold a valid member-to-member martial arts individual licence inclusive of 3 rd party insurance cover. to be altered if circumstances require it. 2 INDIVIDUAL KATA. Individual Kata elimination s will be judged by the flag system. For all individual Kata elimination s the senior Kata judge will select one of the HEIAN or KIHON Kata. The Kata selected will be such that both contestants can be reasonably expected to know it. In the individual Kata finals, the competitors will perform their own choice of Kata, which will be judged by the points system. TEAM KATA. All of the team Kata will be judged on the points system. All team contestants may perform any team Kata of their choosing during both the elimination rounds and in the finals. 3 PROTECTION for all Jyu Kumite (freestyle sparring) events. Males: must use a gum shield and wear thin white hand mitts. A groin guard may be worn. Females: must use a gum shield and wear thin white hand mitts and a chest protector. Glasses and 'hard' contact lenses are not allowed. 4 JEWELLERY For all competition KATA and KUMITE events, the use of body piercing, jewellery and other decorative items are not allowed. In the event of doubt concerning hair tiebacks then the decision of the Chief referee will be final. 4 There will be a license check at the entrance. 5 Entry fees must be paid before participation in the tournament. 6 In team Kumite matches the fighting order must be handed into the area control desk prior to the start of the inter team match. The fighting order may be changed between rounds but not during the match. 7 Appeals on the grounds of procedure to the arbiter by the team captain/manager only. In any dispute the Chief Referee's decision is final. The competition will be run on traditional lines so good attitude, etiquette and control is essential, particularly towards fellow competitors and referees. 8 Good control is expected from all Kumite competitors. Excessive contact (in the opinion of the referee) will result in either a warning or disqualification. 9 All competitors must wear a clean white gi. 10 Only competitors and club coaches are allowed within the competition areas. However they must not go to the individual area control desks, unless called to do so. 11 All competitors are expected to behave in a manner appropriate for a traditional karate championship. Bad behaviour (in the opinion of the Chief Referee/Organisers) will result in immediate disqualification. In previous years the standard of behaviour of competitors and spectators has been of the highest - please help us to maintain this record. ANY COMPLAINTS MUST BE MADE IN WRITING AND GIVEN TO THE CHIEF REFEREE. THESE WILL BE DEALT WITH AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND FOLLOWING CONSULTATION WITH THE ORGANISERS AN ACTION WILL BE DECIDED. ANYONE WHO COMPLAINS DIRECTLY TO TATAMI REFEREES MAY BE DISQUALIFIED. CONTINUED BAD BEHAVIOUR WILL RUN THE RISK OF THEIR ENTIRE CLUB/GROUP BEING DISQUALIFIED WITH NO REFUND.
