Page 2 July-August 2013 The Governor s Gavel H ello Brothers and Co-Workers, Thank you everyone for showing up for the Multiple Sclerosis walk. It was a great day. Also thank you to all that helped make the event a great success. The Mother s Day and Father s Day breakfasts both had great turnouts. Our Memorial Weekend Barbecue was awesome. We did over 80 dinners. A big Thanks goes out to Craig Robnett and Jerry Freeman for the help at the steam table and Joe Ingalls for taking the money. We had a good turnout for the Green Valley Poker Run. It is always a fun time. We have many things going on in July and August starting off with the 4 th of July Barbecue on July 6. The Sedillo brothers will be providing the music. So come and enjoy. Our annual yard sale will be on July 4, 5 and 6 starting at 8 a.m. in the morning. Sharen will need some help setting it up so if you can help show up around 6 a.m. on the 4 th. On July 20, the lodge will have the Boat Poker Run. Get with Dennis London for details and time. Doo Dah Parade & Festival June 27 The Doo Dah Parade will be on July 27 this year. We will need many people to help. If you want to be in the parade we have application at the lodge. This is a great day for the lodge. There will be a Moose Festival behind the lodge this year with the Sedillo Brothers playing again. We have several good meals the next two months so check the calendar in this newsletter for dates. Our lodge is having the Moose Legion Picnic on August 24. We are going to start have the meat raffles in July. So get ready to start buying your tickets. District meetings will be July 14 in Victor Valley and August 4 in Apple Valley and Aug. 25 in Big Bear. We have had a good turnout, so thanks; let s keep it up. We also have a life membership drawing going on for both LOOM and WOTM members. The men are $20 for a $1,000 life membership and the women is $10 for $400 for their life membership. The lodge makes good money on both of these, so ask the bartender for the signup sheet. Finally, I would like to thank all of the many members who volunteered for the Friday Steak Nights and Saturday night meals. What an awesome job by all of you plus super good meals. I am still sending out fliers weekly reminding you of coming events if I have your e-mail. Newsletters in Color on the Net Starting in January we began emailing the newsletter in color if I have your e-mail. Only members without an e-mail address will be getting a paper newsletter. This will save the lodge a lot of money. If you are not getting the fliers, please send me your e-mail and I will put you on the list. My e-mail address is ponderosawayne@yahoo.com. Once again, if you have any ideas for events or parties or anything else, please let me know. And don t forget our meetings on the first and third Wednesdays of the month. Thanks again for supporting our/your Moose Lodge. While I am thanking people, I would like to thank our bartenders for the great job they do serving our members, and also Sharen and Kevin for keeping our social quarters so clean. If I forgot anyone or anything, please let me know. You are all important to the lodge. If you would like me to make up a flier for a special event that you want to hold at the Moose Lodge, birthday, anniversary, etc., please let me know and I will create one for you and send it out. July-August 2013 Page 3 From the Desk of the Senior Regent D ear Co-Workers: What a great start to the new term. The momentum started by Diana is continuing on thanks to all of your efforts. May activities were great with a chicken dinner by Debbie Kanner, breakfast croissants the third Saturday in May and a Bake Sale/Auction Memorial Day Weekend. Thank you all for the great baked goods and to Joscelyn for donating the containers for the bake sale. Cheryl Carter served her famous liver and onion or tri-tip dinner, McKenzie Simmons served up pulled pork and Emily Parker also had her famous meatloaf dinner. What a JUNE! Hard to believe it is SUMMER! Many great happenings in July and August. July happenings: the Moose Yard Sale July 4 through 6 with Sharen Bitters again heading up the project. We have a lot of great food on the list; July 20, Kathy London is hosting the Women of the Moose breakfast serving Egg Casserole and more. And the big event is July 27 the Doo Dah parade and Moose Festival. Come join the WOTM troupe marching in the Parade. We would love to have you participate. It s going to be a fun parade But wait! August is super as well. Diana Whitesell is chairing the Chili Cook-off and has a good line-up of lively competitors. The event is Aug. 17. Dinners again will shine. New member Debbie Vickery is hosting Sweet and Sour Meatloaf on Aug. 3, Beth Alitt is hosting a dinner with Shepherd s Pie or Fisherman Casserole on Aug. 10, then the Chili Cook-off on Aug. 17, build your own pizza is Aug. 24 and the Luau is Aug. 31. Our meetings in July are the 3rd and 17th, and August they will be on the 7th and 21st. Please join us at the meetings and any and all of the functions. There have been many new members enrolled the last few months and we are looking forward for all your continued participation.
