Vitino Port Atomic icebreaker Rossiya called on February 04 at the Vitino seaport in the White Sea first time in 2011. Russian Federation government added Vitino port to the list of ports open for the vessels with nuclear power plants in 2010. This decision was necessary to provide safe navigation especially in winter when fast ice poses significant obstacle for cargo vessels sailing to the berths which results in loss of operating time and decrease of safety level.
Atomic icebreakers assisted the mission of Polar Research Stations SP-37 and SP-38. i/b Rossiya left port of Murmansk on September 17 with new SP-39. Beside crew members 50 employees of AASRI and 10 journalists were onboard. The International Conference Through the Northern Sea Route to Strategic Stability and Equal Partnership in the Arctic was held onboard ib Yamal. It was an event of outmost international importance. High ranking officials from Russia and the Arctic Council states took part. The participants also observed the search and rescue at sea training. 24
