WINTER CAS SPORT ROUND 2 Great round with 13 matches played resulting in 10 wins this week well done to all players!!! Our Senior School teams fared better this week. The Senior Girls Soccer Team won convincingly 7 0 led by Casey-Lee Jamieson s five goals. The Year 10 Girls Netball Team also won. The Boys Soccer Team played far better in a loss, and the Senior Girls Netball Team also lost. SENIOR FIXTURE ALTERATION: Due to the examinations, the Senior Boys & Girls Soccer and Senior Girls Netball will now be played on Monday 16th June (Week 8) vs. St. Mark s. We have a scheduled bye that week due to Year 10 Work Experience. Up to date Senior fixtures are included in the this edition of Sports News and are also online at the School s Sports Webpage. Year 9A Netball The Juniors and Year 7 students had a great round with victories in seven out of eight matches. The Year 9 Netball Team won comfortably and the Year 8 Netball Team had an emphatic victory. The Year 7 Netball Team had a fine first win as did the Boys Basketball Team. Both Year 7 Soccer Teams won with comfortable margins, and Mr Carr has written a match report for the boys below. A great start to the Winter season for the Middle School students. Ladders can be found at: http://www.metisc.com.au/iscoresn/index.cfm?db=5&foid=4 This week sees a very important round against St. Mark s, our local Anglican School rivals who are also highly competitive, especially at Netball. Good luck to all players. The first game of the season for the Year 7 Boys Soccer started with an away victory at Prendiville. The Boys ran out comfortable 4-1 victors. The game was built on a solid defence, with Prendiville only scoring a late consolation goal in the dying seconds of the game. Goal scorers were Jonny Kilgallon (2), Zac Nicholson (1) and Morgan Cooper(1). An excellent first game, with plenty of encouragement for next week s game at home against St. Mark s ACS. Mr Carr (Year 7 Boys Soccer Team Coach) REMINDER JUNIOR FIXTURE ALTERATION: Due to the Year 7 and Junior fixtures being cancelled at the last minute last Wednesday due to severe weather, Round 1 will be played on Wednesday 4th June in the general Bye week. Up to date Junior fixtures are included in the last edition of Sports News and are also online at the School s Sports Webpage.

JUNIOR BOYS FOOTBALL TEAM RESULT & WRITE UP The Junior Boys Football Team had a wonderful win in Round 1 of the Eagles Football Competition. Mr Boucher has written the following report: Peter Moyes ACS 11.11.77 Clarkson CHS 2.2.14 Our first game for the season was vs. Clarkson CHS at home. The game started in overcast conditions with rain threatening, and a brisk breeze. Kicking slightly into the breeze in the first half Peter Moyes won the first five centre clearances through Brenton Steele, Liam Van Der Spury, Aaron Hoggan and Seth Adams getting their hands on the ball in the middle and kicking deep into the forward line to Brandon Kuipers, Bolee McGahy. This set up an excellent first half where Peter Moyes kicked eight goals to two. Other players to impress included Jared Sherlock and Richard Hynes across the half back line who almost stopped all forward movement from Clarkson. Caleb Palandri at Centre Half Forward picked up many possessions and dominated contests with his size and excellent skill. Bevan Hendon also won plenty of the ball out on the wing and consistently delivered it deep into attack. Up forward Blake Budimir kicked two goals and was a vital link at half forward, and helped Jesse Hortle have an excellent game. He dominated deep in attack providing leads, taking marks, crumbing packs, fending off defenders and kicking goals. With three goals against his name half way through the second half, Jesse led into the right pocket, gathered the ball, sold the dummy left, turned back towards the boundary line, steadied and kicked the ball on the outside of his foot, bending it impossibly through the goals. Having played his role, Jesse was subbed out of the game immediately. Well done to all the boys on a great game. Next week we are at Butler College for a 4pm bounce down. Goals Scorers: Jesse Hortle (4), Bolee McGahy (2), Blake Budimir (2), Ethan Campbell (1), Aaron H (1) Best players: Liam VanDer Spury, Brenton Steele, Jesse Hortle & Ethan Campbell for crumbing an excellent goal! Mr Boucher (Junior Boys Football Team Coach) CROSS COUNTRY SQUAD CAPTAINS I am pleased to announce that Sam Rayner and Savannah Steinbach have been appointed ACC Cross Country Squad Captains once again. Their commitment and dedication to training has been outstanding, as well as their continued athletics performance. They both have experience of the ACC Carnival as they have competed every year since Year 7, and I am sure they will do a fantastic job supporting and guiding some of our younger students to success as Sports Leaders. They also train out of School with Joondalup Track Club. Both students are looking towards WA State selection tomorrow. Sam Rayner in his role as Sports Leaders and ACC Cross Country Captain at a training session at Quinn s Beach SSWA CROSS COUNTRY SQUAD Last Friday around 75 students attended the training session at Quinn s Beach. It was great to see so many students attend, a number of whom wore the School singlet, running along the beach path in full public view. It is going to be very difficult to cut a few members of the Squad for the ACC Carnival which has limited numbers. Today will see the Cross Country Squad photograph, briefing and BBQ. I wish the SSWA Cross Country Squad all the best in the Carnival tomorrow. The attitude displayed by our Cross Country Squad has been exemplary, and we can truly say that the core values of our Cross Country Squad have been exhibited thus far: Dedication Hardwork Ambition SSWA Cross Country Carnival; Thursday 22 nd May Squad Breakfast & numbering at 7.00am (don t forget your singlet) Final Squad Briefing at 7.20am Depart School at 7.30am Arrive UWA Sports Park 8.30am Warm up at 9.00am Events commence at 9.20am Depart UWA Sport Park 2.00pm Arrive at School 2.45pm ACC Squad Announced & confirmed at School NO TRAINING SESSION ON FRIDAY MORNING FINAL ACC CROSS COUNTRY SQUAD The Final ACC Cross Country Squad will be published on Thursday 22 nd May to all parents following students performances at the SSWA Carnival. Year 6 Lighting Carnival Programme Girls Soccer Netball I would like to thank Emme Wild and the Physical Education staff for their flexibility and understanding with facility usage and support with umpires for the fixtures. We have family helpers and teaching staff supporting the Programme with coaching responsibilities and Senior School student referees doing a fantastic job! Netball As part of the Co-Curricular Programme, all students have a training session with their team and coaches every Wednesday from 3-4pm. On Thursday, during Periods 6, 7 and 8, we play fixtures against other NIPSSA Schools. So far we have played Whitford Catholic Primary School and have achieved some excellent results. I have been impressed with the students organisation and enthusiasm towards the matches and training sessions. Netball Mixed League - Tag Since the beginning of Term Two, the Year 6 students have been actively engaged in the Northern Independent Primary Schools Sports Association (NIPSSA) Lightning Carnival Programme. The Programme s aim is to give Upper Primary students the opportunity to be part of a team and compete in Inter-School fixtures. Students will experience elements that arise with competition and learn the all-important life skills of team cohesion and socialisation. In addition, we aim to develop individual skill acquisition, improve fitness and gross motor skills and introduce tactics and team strategies. AFL Upcoming fixtures are: 22nd May: St Luke s and Brighton Catholic Primary Schools 29th May: St Mark s Anglican Community School and Lake Joondalup Baptist Catholic Primary School 12th June: Padbury Catholic Primary School Thank you very much to everyone involved so far and I look forward to the upcoming NIPSSA Lightning Carnival on Thursday the 26th of June 2014 where they will play their chosen sport for the day. I hope you enjoy the photos.
