Detailed itinerary Day1 - Ride in East Izu Downhill to the ocean for some fresh sea food. After meeting at Shimoda station, we drive to bottom of Mt. Amagi which has the highest peaks over 1400m in Izu peninsula. Drive or ride up to trail head where gravel road starts, climb 1.5 hours to get to the top. Single track on the ridge starts from there, we enjoy downhill and go for other 2 hills on ridge. After the last peak, we go down to ocean through thick forest on mostly single track. We finish with a seafood BBQ at our accommodation to conclude the day. Cycling Distance: 25-40km Altitude gain: 600m-1100m Van: 1.5hour Accommodation: Villa Shirahama ph +81-558-22-3251; Lodge/ Ensuite (B,L) To get to Shimoda station From Tokyo, 3.0 hours by train From Narita airport, 4.0 by train Day2 - Ride in West Izu Single track in thick forest to a natural hot spring Wake up in the morning watching the sun coming up from horizon, have a breakfast in the green garden - a good start for the day. Today's ride is mostly in the forest. We drive or ride up the mountain on the western part of Izu Peninsula, then ride a gravel road for 1.5 hours. Then take a short walk to the top of the mountain to look over Izu Peninsula and Mt. Fuji (on a clear day!). Get back to the bike and start the single track ride into the thick forest. Visit Hozoin temple which is one of the local esoteric Buddhist temples for meditation between rides. We then cycle downhill to the river, and enjoy the natural hot spring rising from the river bed. Day3 - Bike around Kawaguchiko Lake View of Mt. Fuji and shrine visit. We transfer by van to the bottom of Mt. Fuji in the morning. Situated at 800m above sea level, Kawaguchiko Lake is the perfect escape for a summer ride with its cool and fresh air. As one of the 5 lakes around Mt.Fuji, the view of Mt. Fuji over the lake is just spectacular. We drive up or ride up into the mountain which is North of Mt. Fuji, and start to ride on a gravel road for 1.5 hours to get to the top. Then itʼs a roller-coaster single track, starting with the beautiful Mt. Fuji in front of you, all the way down to the lake. We stop for lunch at a great Udon noodle place (the local specialty) and visit Fuji- Yoshida Sengen shrine where the god of Mt. Fuji is enshrined. Day 4 - Fujimi Panorama Bike park Downhill ride in bike park. We transfer by van to Fujimi panorama bike park in the morning. Bike park has gondola to get us to the top of the mountain, today's ride is all downhill! From the top, we can look over beautiful Mt. Yatsugatake. We have 1 day pass for gondola, so that we can enjoy downhill ride as much as we like. Hotel/ Ensuite (B,D) Day 5 - Ride in Yatsugatake Single track ride in forest with lunch at our local guide's house. We have local guide today, he is originally from Canada and has been living in this area for more than 10 years so has ridden every single track around the area. You can not only expect to ride the best trails, but we are also invited to his home in the forest where we will have lunch. We then transfer to Norikura by van. Day 6 - Ride in Norikura Ride in the highland and try one of the most popular Onsen in Japan. Norikura highland is situated at 1500m above sea level and is part of Chūbu-Sangaku National Park. We ride in coniferous forest through the clear air. While we ride on a trail, the view of Japan's North alps is just spectacular. Our accommodation, North Star is the outdoor center of the area and over dinner weʼll meet local outdoor enthusiasts.
