First Vice Past s Message There are several house and senate bills at the state legislature which could affect our industry. If approved, House Bill 148 would require the registration of home improvement contractors through the Ohio Construction Industry Licensing Board. As written, the definition of a home improvement contractor is one who performs work valued between $500 and $25,000. If approved, Senate Bill 43 would allow Limited Home Rule Townships to adopt construction codes even though the county in which the township is located enforces construction codes. If approved, House Bill 128 would allow contractors to hire their own inspectors circumventing the authority of the local building department. The Ohio Building Officials Association wrote a Position Paper opposing said legislation. Opponent testimony was heard on May 23 rd. Approximately two dozen of our fellow OBOA members were in attendance. Opponent testimony was provided by 9 persons. This Month s Meeting Fire Door Systems, a Guide to Code Compliance Presented by David Dodge of McKeon Door BBS2017-138, 5 hours of continuing education for BO, MPE, BI, RBO, RPE, and FPI certifications No roundtables this month The monthly class begins at 10:00 A.M. First Vice From Your Secretary You don t have to be a golfer to help the golf outing be a success. Just sign up one sponsor for $50 to have their name at a tee box. If you can t find a sponsor, consider buying a sign yourself. This is an investment in YOUR organization. Consider this. If you come to all nine meetings a year, at $12 each for lunch, Boconeo pays out $108. Your $100 membership dues comes up a little short. We make up for the shortfall by co-hosting the Joint Conference, holding the annual Education Institute, selling 50/50 raffle tickets, etc. Considering you are getting continuing education credits for free after lunch costs are paid, would you consider donating $50 back to YOUR organization to help raise money for college scholarships that we give away each year? Please sell or purchase a golf outing sponsor sign this year. The form is included in this newsletter. Past Secretary
