Seven out of the first ten Premiership games were wins, and the team was sitting third. Unfortunately, only four of the remaining 12 games were won, and seventh was the final position. This was the highest finishing position since 2013. The final of the European Challenge Cup was lost to a 78 th minute penalty, but Gloucester qualified for the Champions Cup by playing in the final.
