From the General Manager Happy New Year and welcome to 2017. The December celebrations and events were a great way to end the year with many residents taking part in the Christmas event which included live music, face painting, a jumping castle, Light up Bingara winner announcements, golf competition announcements and concluded with a Christmas movie on the golf course. The golf events got a little more adventurous as we introduced Light it up Golf, a new way to play in the dark. Everyone had a great time, especially those who hit the ball in the rough the glow in the dark balls meant you could retrieve your ball with no issues. The pulse pools and gym have been getting a good workout this summer, with a fully equipped gym to help you stay on track, and partial shade in the pool enclosure to keep you more comfortable we hope to see more of you utilising this fantastic facility. 2017 has a lot more exciting times in store with school holiday fun, Easter and Anzac Day golf competitions, monthly calendar events including a Wine and Cheese night and Sunday afternoon Tasty Tunes just to name a few. I look forward to catching up with you all in the new year. GOLF UPDATE WITH ETHAN GOLF tip: Chipping to a back pin The most common mistake I see players make is using the club they usually chip with, often a sand or lob wedge. The problem with this is you have to carry the ball deeper into the green. This requires a longer, harder swing, which makes the shot harder and less consistent. Instead, try a bump and run (or chip and run) with a longer club like a 7 or 8 iron. With a longer club, the effort to get the ball to the hole is minimised, so you ll have to shorten and slow your swing. You will achieve a much more consistent shot by doing so. Take you normal chipping stance with the ball positioned towards the back of your stance, from here focus on where you need to land the ball for it to run out to the hole. Remember that a longer club will come out low and run where a club like a sand wedge will go high and stop quickly. Try this simple chip next time you find yourself in this position. GOLF SHOP OPEN DAILY 8am - 6PM Golf Carts in Bingara We would like to remind residents that the roads in Bingara Gorge are public roads. To use a golf cart on the road network you are required by Roads and Maritime Services NSW to conditionally register your golf cart. Visit http://www.rms.nsw. gov.au/roads/registration/get-nsw-registration/conditional.html Residents using their own carts on the golf course must also register your cart at the Golf Shop and are required to check in when you take your cart onto the course. We ask that residents abide by the road rules and consider your neighbours when moving throughout the estate thank you for your cooperation. Light It Up Golf A fantastic turnout for our first Light It Up Golf event saw 44 players take the ultimate challenge of teeing it up in the dark. The evening teed off with drinks and food at Pulse Café before the players took to the course just before 9pm. With the course lit up with green, blue, white and red glow sticks and the players using specialised golf balls designed to light up once the ball was hit, it is an event to experience for yourself! Many thanks to Light It Up Golf for setting up the course and to all who attended. Our next Light It Up Golf Event will be held on 5th May. 6
A beginner s journey by Tina Sewell As a non-golfer, I have been exposed to a game or two at charity events and never really had a full appreciation for the game. I often wondered why so many people get out on the course for a hit! So I set myself a goal to get out of my comfort zone and decided to sign up for a 5 lesson package. The beauty of this package is that I could fit it around my busy schedule and I managed to complete this over 8 weeks. I quickly realised that it wasn t as easy as it looks. There are a series of techniques which I learnt over the term that really helped shape my game. Golf is not something you learn overnight and takes patience and practice. Being out in the open air, with the tranquil and peaceful surrounds, I can appreciate why this is a way to unwind and relax on your own or with friends. For those of you who have not made it to the golf course, I encourage you to come and hire a set of clubs and take yourself on a tour of the beauty that is right on your doorstep. Take up some lessons to get you started, you can do this individually or with a group. Your future self may thank you for taking stepping out and learning something new.
