Head Coach Mark Prosser Mark Prosser joins the Brevard College Coaching Staff in the fall of 2011, coming to the Tornados from Wofford College, where he was involved in all aspects of coaching, including scouting, prep recruiting and film breakdown. In the 2010-2011 season, the Terriers repeated as Southern Conference Champions and reached the NCAA Tournament. The team was first in the SoCon in assists and also first in assist/turnover margin on the way to a 21-13 record. Wofford also was eighth in the nation in three-point percentage and twelfth in overall field goal percentage. During his first season back in Spartanburg in 2008, the Terriers set a school record with twelve Southern Conference wins. In addition, the team posted the first winning overall record since moving to NCAA Division I. In the 2009-2010 season, Prosser helped Wofford reach a school-record 26 wins along with the Southern Conference Championship and a trip to the NCAA Tournament. Working primarily with the guards, Wofford was second in the conference in turnover margin and assist/turnover ratio, plus ranked third in steals. At Bucknell, the team averaged twenty wins a season over the five years Prosser was on the coaching staff of Pat Flannery. In the 2004-05 season, the Bison reached the NCAA Tournament after going 23-10 and winning the Patriot League title. In the tournement, Bucknell defeated Kansas in the first round. In 2005-06, the Bison went undefeated in Patriot League play, the first team to do so in conference history. The team was ranked in the top 25 for the first time in school history and featured Patriot League Player of the Year Charles Lee. For the NCAA Tournament, the Bison were seeded 9th and defeated Arkansas in the first round. In the second round they were defeated by Memphis to end the season at 27-5, the best record in school history. For the 2002-03 season, he served as an assistant coach for the Terriers in Mike Young s first season as head coach. During that season, Wofford posted a 14-15 overall record, including a 79-77 win at Virginia Tech. In the Southern Conference, the Terriers were 8-8 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the conference tournament. Prosser graduated from Marist College in 2002. He saw action as a reserve forward at Marist before a knee injury ended his playing career. He also worked with the program as a student assistant coach. Prosser earned Street and Smith honorable mention All- America honors at Lawrenceville Prep. He averaged 18 points and seven rebounds per game during his senior season, earning USA Today All-State honors. A native of Wheeling, West Virginia, Prosser is the son of the late Skip Prosser, who was head men s basketball coach at Wake Forest and Xavier. He and his wife Emily were married in June 2009 and reside in Brevard. They are the proud parents of their daughter, Ava Grayce. 2011-2012 Brevard College Men s Basketball Alphabetical Roster No. Name Po. Ht. Yr. SAC Preseason The Tornados were ranked by the coaches of the South Atlantic Conference to finish tenth in the SAC Preseason Poll. Brevard received 12 total votes in the preseason poll. Wingate led the preseason poll, receiving 96 votes and six first place votes. Wingate and Catawba also received first place votes. What s New for BC in 2011-2012 The Tornados welcome new Head Coach Mark Prosser to the mix in the 2011-2012 season. Prosser will have his work cut out for him as he takes over a new roster with a number of freshman poised and ready to make an impact. Gerel Simmons, Hunter Morrison, Taylor Warren, Jonathan Hopper and David Worth all come in expected to battle for playing time right away, while Serbian big men Aleksandar Vasiljevic and Filip Gujanicic look to anchor the BC front court and keep the Tornados among the SAC leaders on the boards. Preseason All-Conference Gaither Hendrix joins hallowed ground this season, becoming only the third BC men s basketball player to receive preseason All-Conference First Team honors. The 6-1 senior guard from Lenoir, N.C. joins BC alums Jonathan Whitson and Josh Roper as BC men s basketball players who have made this prestigious team, and he looks to guide the Tornados to their third consecutive postseason appearance after scoring 14.9 points per game last year from the point guard position. Single Game Records One of the great things about athletics is that on any given night, a school single game record can be broken by a great performance by an athlete. Young Harris continued their surge in the first half, going on an 18-9 run capped by a Jackson layup to take their largest lead of the first half at 46-27 with 1:39 on the clock. The Tornados bounced back to close out the half with a 6-0 spurt as Moose scored back-to-back baskets and Chavis Hamilton hit a pair of free throws as the teams went into the break with Young Harris leading 46-33. A layup by Viterbo at the 15:03 mark gave the Mountain Lions their largest lead of the game at 62-42, but the Tornados battled back to bring the game all the way back to within six points on a 23-9 run spanning the next seven minutes with Schauss, Hendrix and Vasiljevic each recording multiple baskets in the run as the Tornados cut the lead to 71-65 at the 8:31 mark. Young Harris again pressed the lead, going back up by 13 at the 1:48 mark on a three-pointer by Jackson, but Tanner answered with a trey from the top of the key and followed with a layup to cut the lead back to within single digits. Schauss stole the inbounds pass on the ensuing possession and drilled a three-pointer from the right corner to cut the lead back to within six with 48 seconds to go, but Martin connected on a pair of free throws and Jackson hit one of two free throws to put the game away as the Tornados fell 91-82.
