We must thank Jebel Ali Resorts and Hotels, the Dubai Sports Council, Ashurst and all our volunteers for their help and support in pulling this race together. We ask that you read all the details outlined in this race information pack prior to the race and familiarise yourself with the course and the rules. Please also make sure you attend the compulsory race briefing, as it is sometimes necessary for last minute changes to be made. That is also your opportunity to ask any questions. race information / Schedule/ wave times Race information: Event schedule/ wave start times: The Ashurst Sprint / SuperSprint Aquathon Race 3 features race categories for all age groupers and teams. There is a category especially for people working in the legal industry as well as age groups for young athletes aimed at encouraging the next generation of endurance athletes. The younger athletes race a shortened course. Sprint Distance Aquathon: Age groupers race the sprint distance (750m swim/5km run) with Open (ages 19-39); Veteran (ages 40-49) and SuperVet (ages 50+) categories. Sprint Distance Team Aquathon: Like the age groupers, teams of 2 race over the sprint distance (750m swim/5km run). Sprint Distance Youth Aquathon: 750m swim/5km run for ages 15-18. directions Directions to race venue: Car parking: The Ashurst Sprint Aquathon is based in and around the grounds of the JA Jebel Ali Golf Resort. The JA Jebel Ali Golf Resort is well signposted from the E11 (Sheikh Zayed Road). See the map on the right for further instructions. Car parking: Car parking is available on a first come, first served basis. Parking Area 3 is about 5 minutes walk from transition. Please don t park at the main hotel car park! (There are showers available for use by competitors after the race at Club Jumana). From Dubai: Drive down the E11 (Sheikh Zayed Road) until you have passed Jebel Ali Village and the first entrance of the Jebel Ali Free Zone. Take the exit that directs you to the JAFZA gates 7,8 & 9 (Exit 13). Follow the road and continue straight through the traffic light crossroads until you reach the first roundabout, where you make a left. Continue along the road, taking the first road on your right. Continue down this road to the turn off for access to Parking Area 3. 4
registration - open 6:00 till 6:35am Timing chip and ankle strap: Race number: Swim cap: On arrival at the registration area you will need to collect your race documentation envelope. Your race number will be displayed on the information boards next to registration. Complete and sign the race waiver then pick up your registration pack based on your race number. Your pack will contain: 1. A timing chip and ankle strap. You need to attach the timing chip to your LEFT ankle. Your chip will be collected from you at the finish line - if you don t return your chip at this point you will be liable for a fee of AED 100 so please remember to return it! (Note that we are not using the ChampionChip system so please use the timing chip given to you at registration any other chip will not work). 2. Race number. A race number must be clearly visible on your front for the run. Each athlete should have an elastic race belt, which can be used for your race number. (Relay teams are required to pass this belt from one team member to the other in transition). Race belts are available for purchase at the registration desk. 3. Swim cap. Each wave will start with a different colour cap. Please make sure the colour of the cap in your race pack matches the colour shown on the information board. It is compulsory to wear these swim caps in the swim. 5
registration - open 6:00 till 6:35am Your RACE.ME drawstring bag: Ashurst Aquathon Sponsors: Ashurst Aquathon Sponsors: As soon as you have collected your race pack and checked the contents, you need to apply and check your timing chip to make sure the system is reading the signal. After the chip test, the final step will be to collect your race goodie bag. Your branded drawstring race bag will contain: 1. Race Number 2. Timing Chip RACE.ME merchandise Anyone who has pre-ordered or wants to purchase RACE. ME branded merchandise can collect this from the registration area. 6
registration - open 6:00 till 6:35am Race briefing: (6:45 am) Timing: Results: There will be a short race briefing next to the start line at 6.45am for all athletes. Please attend this race briefing as any last minute changes will be discussed, as well as any questions answered. Timing antennas will be positioned at the entry to transition, and at the finish line. We ll endeavour to provide you with all your timing splits, but this is not guaranteed. Very occasionally, a timing chip may not be read or a timing antenna may fail and timing splits may not be available. You ll receive a total finish time providing we can see your race number when you cross the finish line. If you withdraw during the event please make sure you return your timing chip, otherwise we will think you are still out there racing! A set of results will be available on our website www.raceme-events.com as soon as possible after the event. We hope they ll all be perfect but any queries relating to them should be emailed to us by the Tuesday after the event, after which time all results will be deemed as final and complete. 7
Terms & conditions Terms & conditions of entry: Withdrawal policy: Body marking: The terms and conditions of entry are set out on our website at http://www.race-me-events.com/terms-and-conditions. In entering this event, competitors have agreed to abide with these terms and conditions. Transfer of entries: Please note that the transfer of your entry to another person may only be done until the date of the close of registration for the event. This is done online through Premier Online select the Transfer Registration option in the Transactions section of your profile manager to do so. You need to know the email address of the person you are transferring your entry to. Our online registration is done through Premier Online. We allow athletes to withdraw from an event. However, if you decide to do so Premier Online only give you the option to have your race registration fee credited to your Premier Online profile. This must be done no later than 7 days prior to the published close of registration, and is accessed through the Transactions section of your profile manager under the Cancel/Credit a Registration section. Premier Online charges a processing fee of AED 30 to process this withdrawal and online credit. Every participant will be marked with his race number on both arms and legs. Please make sure that no sun lotion is applied prior to marking. 8
Terms & conditions Swim: Run: Transition: The swim will be a non-wetsuit swim. Only race legal speed-suits (no rubber or neoprene) will be permitted. All athletes must wear the swim cap provided and start in their allocated wave. Only swim goggles or masks are permitted. No other swim aids of any kind are permitted. Only official lifeguards on kayaks and rescue jet skis are allowed on the swim course. Swimmers may use the kayaks and jet skis for aid should they require assistance so long as there is no forward momentum, which would result in disqualification. A shirt or full-length trisuit must be worn at all times. Race numbers must be worn on your front during the run The roads within the resort will be open so please follow the rules of the road and be aware of traffic on the run leg. Please run single file on the right except when overtaking. Once past, please return to the right side of the road/ running track. No ipods or similar headphone devices allowed. Please do not litter the run course. Dispose of litter and used water bottles in the aid stations. Competitors need to set out their running shoes (and any other kit that you want to put on or use for the run) in the designated transition area (see the map on page 11). Please be considerate to other competitors when setting out your kit try not to take up too much space! Once your kit is placed in transition, all bags or other items that are not going to be used during the race should be moved away so that transition is kept as clear as possible. Transition for ALL competitors will close at 6.10am promptly. 9
Swim course 375m swim course starts from the beach 1 or 2 lap anti-clockwise course depending on whether doing kids or adults distance race. After completing 1 lap of the swim course, run through the blue swim arch on the beach, and then head back into the water to swim your second lap. After completing your second lap, run through the blue swim arch, and then up the steps to your right. Run through the hotel grounds to transition. Canoes will be on hand to provide safety cover. If you get into difficulty, turn on your back and raise one arm; a canoe will then escort you back to the beach. If you appear to be struggling in the swim, or if you have been in the water for a long time, you may be pulled out. Short run to transition (which will be situated under the pedestrian bridge towards the car park 10
transition On completion of the swim, competitors run to the transition area. Please follow signs and marshals. Once into the transition area, discard your cap and googles (as neatly as possible next to your kit put on your run shoes and continue onto the run course. Please follow the sign boards indicating the run course and directions for the finish Your race number should be visible on your front for the run section of the race. 11
run course FINISH The run course takes place in the grounds of the hotel and the golf course using a new and technical 2.5km loop. Finish 2nd lap Athletes will exit transition and turn left alongside the golf course. At the marina car park runners turn right and do 2 loops around the golf course before heading through the transition to the finish line. Adults repeat for a second lap while the younger athletes head toward the finish line on the beach. There will be 2 drinks stations: one half way on the golf course, another one at the finish line 12
finish Return your ankle chip: Ashurst Aquathon series: Prize Giving: Congratulations on finishing the race! Please return your chip to one of the race volunteers - if you don t return your chip at this point you will be liable for a fee of AED 100 so please remember to return it! This race is part of the Ashurst Aquathon Series (together with the Ashurst Olympic Aquathon on 3 January 2015, and the Ashurst Sprint Aquathon on April 18 2015). Your position in your individual age category in this race gives you points in the overall Ashurst Aquathon Series. Upon the conclusion of the final race in Ashurst Aquathon Series on April 18 2015, the individuals in each category with the most accumulated points will be declared the overall winners of the series. Points will be allocated as follows for each event: This will take place at 800am. Trophies will be awarded to the first, second and third placed finishers in each of the categories. medical advice Climate: Hydration: Sun Lotion: It is essential that you are aware of the weather conditions during the race. It is expected to be hot with very little, if any, shade. If you start to get headaches, feel dizzy and nauseous then you may be suffering from heat exhaustion and need to seek medical advice. Listen to your body. Talk to the nearest volunteer who will be able to help you get attention. The common symptoms of heat exhaustion include: confusion, muscle cramps, heavy sweating, headaches, nausea/vomiting and dizziness. If you become aware of these symptoms then seek medical help. Please stay hydrated and drink plenty of fluids in the days leading up to the race and remember to continue to take on fluids on the morning before the swim start. During the run try to take on board about 500ml of fluids per hour. There will be water available from aid stations. Sun lotion will be available at the start area. Please make sure to protect yourself from the sun. 14
