FLORIDA FLYROD CLUB S REEL NEWS November 2017 150-D Fortenberry Rd, Merritt Island, FL 32952 floridaflyrodclub.com https://www.facebook.com/floridaflyrodclub OFFICERS President Frank Adams 321-698-7191 Vice President/Weigh Master Doug Cheney 321-508-0936 Secretary/Newsletter Editor Betty Brown 321-504-7881 321-749-9949 Treasurer Alex Montminy 321-544-7109 NEXT MEETING January 9, 2018 Kay s Bar-B-Q, 1525 King St (SR 520), Cocoa Dinner from menu at 5:30; Meeting at 6:30 CHRISTMAS PARTY: Thanks to the generosity of Steve & Debbie Phelps, our Christmas Party will be at the Phelps home again this year on December 12. We hope many of you will be there. Each family is requested to bring a covered dish. Betty Brown will contact you before the end of November to find out what you plan to bring so we don t have a lot of duplicates. You can leave a message on her home phone or send a text or voice mail to her iphone. A list of possible choices will be sent by separate email in case you don t have a favorite dish or don t know what dish to bring. Meats, sodas, water, wine, beer, ice and paper products are being provided by the club. Alex Montminy may be calling on folks to bring some of these things; but, if you save your receipts and turn them in to Alex, you will be reimbursed. Note that we have made a time change. This year everything is moved up an hour: 5:30 pm Social; 6:30 pm Dinner; 7:30 pm Gift Exchange. This was done not only for consideration of those who have a long way to drive but for us older folks who have a hard time staying up late. For those who work, getting home an hour earlier will be helpful as well. Also, the only thing you will miss if you can t be there until 6:30 (because of the time you get off from work) is the social hour, but you can also mingle during dinner. If you care to participate in our gift exchange, each gift should be valued at $25 (minimum). It can be fishing related or not. Gifts should only be marked as Fisherman or Lady. If you bring a fisherman s gift, you must take a fisherman s gift; and if you bring a lady s gift, you must take a lady s gift. It s always a fun time and we hope you will want to join in. FISHING/WATER REPORTS: Lake Poinsett has dropped at least two feet from its highest flood level during and after Hurricane Irma. In spite of the winds, there have been quite a few boats on the lake in November; however, there have been no fishing reports received, but it is suspected with so much water, fish will be hard to catch in the reeds. Lake Cypress and surrounding lakes are producing pretty well; that s why we ve changed the December 16 tournament from Lake Poinsett which is way too high for good fishing too many places for the fish to go. Lake Ida (east of I-95 near Delray Beach) was fished in early November by Dave Deithorn and Don Donoghue. They caught 12 Bass, but no Cichlids or Bream. Lake Okeechobee is still above flood stage, but fishing is good.

GET WELL WISHES: Bill Brown is continuing his physical therapy trying to get stronger with a goal of fishing before spring 2018. It s been several years since he s been out, so he s anxious to go again. Don Donoghue is continuing chemo treatment for the time being and waiting for test results hoping for good news. He s still going fishing whenever possible. Bobby Goforth is doing well following knee and back surgery and is also looking forward to fishing when the water recedes in Poinsett. Until then, he s going to try to do a little hunting if he can find some deer amid the bears. Ron Taylor is having many difficult days, but we wish him more good days than bad. MEMBERSHIP: New Member: The Florida Flyrod Club was pleased to welcome Randy Cleveland as our newest member at the November meeting. Randy lives in Mims. He s been fly fishing for quite a while and enjoys fishing from a kayak. We re glad to have you onboard, Randy. Now that Randy and Ned Scheerhorn are members, we are sure to hear more about kayak fishing and, hopefully, they ll fish more freshwater locations with us. Roster: There are several open spaces on the membership roster house numbers, street names, telephone numbers, email addresses, etc. that have been missing for months. We need the email addresses and cell phone numbers especially to be able to keep you up to date on tournaments and club activities; so PLEASE get in touch with Betty Brown ASAP with that information. Also, if your information changes, please let her know as it will save her a lot of time and effort reaching you. TOURNAMENT LADDER: The tournament ladder updated through 10/22/17 is attached. WANTED OR FOR SALE ADS OR ARTICLES: If you have an article, a For Sale or a Wanted ad, or anything else you d like included in the next newsletter, please give the information to Betty Brown no later than November 30, 2017: Phones: 321-504-7881 (H), 321-749-9949 (C) Email: lizbrown1@cfl.rr.com Snail mail: 855 Clifton s Cove Ct., Cocoa, FL 32926 WEBSITE: www.floridaflyrodclub.com Tom Heitpas is working to catch up on the Website, but a down computer for several months and the interruption of power in September from Irma and the loss of his yard between the seawall and the pool courtesy of Irma is keeping him busy on other things. He ll likely stay up with things from this point on, but it may take a while to catch up with the historical data. Betty Brown will continue to release Next Tournament information by separate email if she doesn t see it on the website. WEIGH-IN REMINDERS: 1. Panfish must be 7 minimum. 2. Exotics, such as Mayan Cichlids, Oscars, Peacock Bass, and Shad, shall not be counted as Panfish. They are counted as Other. YOU NEED TO KNOW: In response to Doug Cheney s request for an update on the Fellsmere impoundment, Dustin Everitt of the FWC sent this response: A brief summary of the recent meeting regarding the new FWMA lake adjacent to the Stickmarsh: The lawyers from both sides are still in the process of working out a new agreement between AJRWMD and FJV (Fellsmere Joint Ventures) including having perpetual access to the boat ramp which will be on FJV property. Their latest guess as to when the boat ramp and parking facilities will be open to the public is sometime in 2019. Current plans call for 32 spaces for vehicles with trailers, 12 spaces for vehicles only, and 2 spaces for disabled. There will also be an overflow lot. Note: People have been dragging kayaks and canoes to the area to fish. If you do that to fish there, remember that all fish are catch and release. < o }}}}>< If you re traveling during this Thanksgiving season, please remember--you are not the only nut behind the wheel, so be careful of all the others out there and do your best to get home safely.
