Page 2 January-February 2013 Big Bear Moose Lodge Newsletter The Governor s Gavel H ello Brothers and Co-Workers, Our November and December was great. The Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners were awesome with many people enjoying the feast. The Wounded Warriors dinner had a great turnout. Thank to everyone for showing them a good time. We really need to support them for all that they do. The Poker Run to Green Valley Lake had many people showing up with everyone having a good time. We have a lot going on for January and February starting off with our annual Pajama New Year s Day Rose Parade breakfast with many good items to choose from. We start the event at 8 a.m., so come in and enjoy. We are also having another Monte Carlo Night on Feb. 23. Buy-in is $10, which includes chips and our famous finger foods. For more meals and events read the calendar in the newsletter. There is a new campaign going on with zero enrollment fees. They pay for dues only. This is for new LOOM, WOTM and Legion members. So this is a great time to sign up new members. Remember if you sign up two members to any of these you get free dues for the next year. Finally, I would like to thank all of the many members who volunteered for the Friday Steak Nights and Saturday night meals. What an awesome job by all of you plus super good meals. I am still sending out fliers weekly reminding you of coming events if I have your e-mail. Starting in January the newsletter will be sent to you in color if I have your e-mail. You will not be getting a paper one if I have your e-mail address. Only members without an e-mail address will be getting a paper newsletter. This will save the lodge a lot of money. If you are not getting the fliers, please send me your e- mail and I will put you on the list. My e-mail address is ponderosawayne@yahoo.com. Once again, if you have any ideas for events or parties or anything else, please let me know. And don t forget our meetings on the first and third Wednesdays of the month. Thanks again for supporting our/ your Moose Lodge. While I am thanking people, I would like to thank our bartenders for the great job they do serving our members; also Sharen and Kevin for keeping our social quarters so clean. If I forgot anyone or anything, please let me know. You are all important to the lodge. If you would like me to make up a flier for a special event that you want to hold at the Moose Lodge birthday, anniversary, etc., please let me know and I will create one for you and send it out. I hope you are enjoying the fliers. Thanks! Your Brother and Friend Governor, Wayne Parker ponderosawayne@yahoo.com
Big Bear Moose Lodge Newsletter January-February 2013 Page 3 From the Desk of the Senior Regent H ello Women of the Moose, Well, we have said goodbye to 2012. What a good year it was! I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas. Our first ever Christmas Mooseical, and prime rib dinner were so very successful. Many thanks to the volunteer kitchen staff, Tammy Smith, Barbie Dauhl, Marcella Hill, Jane Colletta and Steve Festini for their hard work. Special heartfelt thanks to the three great chefs; Jerry Freeman, Craig Robnett, and Dave Colletta. Your presentation and cuisine was absolutely perfect. You made the culmination of the musical a real success. Thank you so much to all the cast, Peggy Baldwin, Duke Michaels, Serena Saunders, Kathy and Dennis London, Mary Sullivan, Dee Weston, Margo Penardi, Russ and Joceslyn Lewis, Robert and Cheryl Carter, Karen Oliver, Joy Powell, Matthew Metzger and Candy Hallstead. Your talent is amazing! Thanks also to Haley and Matthew for handing out programs and candy canes. You both rock! Rumors are it was such good entertainment that we should do it each year. Our November and December dinners at the lodge were great. Thanks to all the volunteers who donate their time and effort to cook these meals. The New Year s Eve party was fun. We had a live band, food and of course, and champagne for some. So glad the Mayan Calendar prediction didn t come true! Be sure to consider the home-cooked, great meals as an easy on the pocketbook cost each Saturday evening at the lodge. Food doesn t get any better. Check your newsletter calendars for what will be served each week. We are putting together a Valentine s Day basket at the lodge, and could use some ideas. Stop in and visit with your creative minds and talents. Don t forget our meetings are twice monthly. We would love to see you get involved with our chapter and together make 2013 successful in every way. Page 6 January-February 2013 Big Bear Moose Lodge Newsletter Moose Legion B ROTHER MOOSE LEGIONNAIRES Among the highly successful activities during November and December, we participated in hosting the dinner for the Wounded Warriors. We had a great turnout and they all really enjoyed the evening. Our Legion spaghetti dinner was also a huge success and sold out. Thanks to everyone who helped. On Nov. 3, we attended a memorial service for Ed Stroup at the Fontana Lodge. There was a great turnout of Moose Legionnaires from our Yucca 167 Legion and others to pay tribute to Ed who was highly regarded for his long service to the Moose Legion and as a person who touched everyone he met. Upcoming Legion events include a Lodge Moose Legion meeting on Jan. 5 at 9 a.m.. All Legionnaires are encouraged to attend. This is when we plan activities to support our lodge and Moose Legion. Also, our next Yucca 167 Moose Legion celebration will be at the Victor Valley Lodge on Jan. 26. Enrollment of new Moose Legionnaires will be at 1 p.m. New enrollees should check in by 12:30 p.m. A board of directors meeting will be at 10 a.m., followed by a Fellows meeting at 11 a.m., with lunch to follow. Don t forget to sign up new Moose Legionnaires! They only need to have six months as a Moose member or have sponsored one new Moose member, which ever comes first, to be eligible. Al Kanner Chairman
