XTERRA BEAVER CREEK TRAIL RUNS Trail runs in Colorado can be a breathtaking experience in more ways than one, and the XTERRA Beaver Creek Trail Run is no exception. The course offers scenic views while taking runners along 2,400 feet of climbing in the thin Colorado air. It will also count as part of the XTERRA Colorado Trail Run Series, so 20km runners can earn valuable points toward a Colorado Series championship. There will be a 20km, 10K and 5K courses for the whole family to enjoy. Event t-shirts are guaranteed for all athletes registering by June 30. Walk-ups and registrations after July 1 are not guaranteed a t- shirt. You must be present to receive awards. BRING YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS! Load up the car for the trip and bring your family and friends! The Race Village is a great place to hang out and watch the race. In between all of the race action, there will be music, commentary and exhibition tents. The expo is open Friday from 2 8 pm, Saturday from 9:30 am 2 pm and Sunday 8 am-12 pm. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED If your family or friends would like to volunteer...they ll enjoy a lite breakfast, event t-shirt and our eternal gratitude. Volunteers are also needed for Saturday s triathlon, and in addition to the above, volunteers receive a free entry in Sunday s trail run! HOW TO GET THERE DRIVING DIRECTIONS FROM DENVER Take 70W to exit 167 to Avon/Beaver Creek, enter the roundabout and continue left. You will be heading south, and should go back under I-70. Continue straight on this road (Avon Road) through 4 more roundabouts, after which you will see the entrance to Beaver Creek. Proceed to the Welcome Gate and let them know you re here for XTERRA. Tip: A good address to enter in your phone is of the Beaver Creek Chophouse: 15 West Thomas Place, Avon, CO 81620. This will get you to the expo area, and registration is about 80 yards east. Note: This is a point-topoint race with the swim start and T1 at Nottingham Lake just down the hill. The expo, T2, and finish line are all at Beaver Creek Resort. OTHER EVENTS OTHER EVENTS XTERRA BEAVER CREEK CHAMPIONSHIP-Saturday, 7/15 This race will serve as a qualifier for the 2017 XTERRA World Championship, a gold level XTERRA Pan American Tour stop and a 100-point XTERRA America Tour championship race. The event will feature $15,000 USD in prize money for elite athletes, who will compete over a 1 mile swim, 25km mountain bike and 9.3km trail run. For amateurs, there will be 51 spots into the XTERRA World Championship to be held October 29 in Maui up-forgrabs. XTERRA SPRINT- Saturday, 7/15 Distance: 500 meter swim / 14.4k mountain bike / 4.9k trail run The XTERRA Sprint race is a half-distance race run on the same course and day as the championship race. The race is a great opportunity for new competitors, or for those who want a less-demanding XTERRA experience. XTERRA KIDS SPRINT Youngsters 10 and under can join in the FREE kids sprint Saturday at 12:30 pm and Sunday at 10:30 am. It s just a short fun run around the finish area where everyone is a winner. Parents, register your child prior to the fun run at XTERRA Registration in the McCoy Pavilion. PAUL MITCHELL CUT-A-THON Racing makes you feel good Paul Mitchell makes you look good! Make a donation and get a professional cut on the spot. No appointment necessary, just come on down! THE BRAVE ATHLETE TOUR: MEET 3X WORLD CHAMP LESLEY PATERSON AND SPORT PSYCHOLOGY EXPERT DR. SIMON MARSHALL The Brave Athlete, a new book from Dr. Simon Marshall and Lesley Paterson, will come to life in Beaver Creek on Friday at 4 pm. In this talk Lesley and Simon will help you take control of your brain so you can train harder, race faster, and better enjoy your sport. Dr. Marshall is a sport psychology expert who trains the brains of elite professional athletes. Paterson is a three-time world champion triathlete and coach. Together, they will talk about the brain training guide they created that draws from both clinical science and real-world experience with athletes. And, your chance to buy a book and get it signed! START TIMES-SUNDAY, JULY 16 Here are the scheduled start times for the courses: 20K starts at 8:00 am 10K starts at 8:15 am 5K starts at 8:20 am Please be on time and follow the instructions of the announcers and officials. RACE BRIEFING The race briefing for all courses is scheduled for 7:40 am near the starting arch. It is not mandatory for runners to be there, but XTERRA Race Director Chris Appleton will be on hand to explain the details of the race. CANNON BLASTS We will start with a cannon blast. It is very loud, so please be mindful of dogs and children, cover their ears or move away from the start area. NO HEADSETS XTERRA does not allow runners to wear headsets or earpieces during the races. COURSE MARKINGS The run course will be marked in red. The 20km half-marathon will be two laps of the 10km course. The course will be clearly marked using a mixture of core flute signs and arrows as well as bright tape tied to trees to re-assure you that you are going the right way. RUN RUN Please watch out for course signage along the way. Our course marshals who will be pointing you in the right direction.
AID STATIONS There will be two aid stations for the 5K course, four aid stations for the 10K course, and eight aid stations for the 20K course. Gatorade and water will be available at all stations, MEDICAL We have qualified medical personnel at the Race Village and roaming on the course. If you feel unwell at any stage of the race, please alert the closest course marshal who will arrange for our medical staff to meet you. CUT-OFF TIMES There are none, but please don t plan on walking the entire 20K. BAG CHECK We will have a bag check available at registration. Have your items in a closed bag and write your bib number on it. MUSCLE MILK RECOVERY ZONE Provided at the finish line with ice cold Muscle Milk and places to stretch and cool off. TIMING We re using JTL Timing, which relies on a manual system so you won t have to wear a chip on your ankle. There is a tag on the bottom of your race bib that you must not remove. It will be pulled from your bib after you cross the finish line from one of the JTL timing assistants. AWARDS Awards will be given to the top three in each age-group division. You must be present to receive your awards. Awards will not be mailed after the event. The 5K awards will start 9:30 am, 10K awards start at around 10 am, followed by the 20K around 11 am.
XTERRA TRAIL RUN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP Every age group winner from the 20K race will receive a free entry to the XTERRA Trail Run World Championship at Kualoa Ranch, Hawaii, on December 3, 2017.
