Dear Singapore Paintball Series (SPS) Participants, 2017 has been a busy but rewarding year for the SPS as we fully adopted the SPS500 format for the 2017 series. Not only did we change the game format from shooting unlimited paints to 500 paintballs, we also complement the change by implementing 10.5bps as the rate of fire instead of 12.0bps. 2017 has been a busy year for the SPS Committee with SPS500 as a 3-legged event, GI Sportz Singapore Cup 2017, Asia Girls Paintball International Championship 2017, East vs West All Star 2017 and the upcoming SPS Friendship 2017 in December. There is never an opportunity for one to say that there are too little events to participate in Singapore. While the cost of registration saw a slight increment (an increase of $50) across all divisions, the synonymous decrease in both the maximum paintballs per game and rate of fire. These transformations addressed the longstanding subject on the cost of participation striking a good balance with the quality of games. There is simply no excuse not to participate in the SPS500 2018. The SPS500 rules were reviewed and changed along with the best practices from across all major paintball competitions. It is through this revolution that we were able to introduce the SPS500-WPBO Rules and Regulations making it unique to Singapore and the SPS500. Teams played in a mercy rule split deck game format with no sideline coaching and rate of fire at 10.5bps using the M500 format. To implement these changes, a Rules and Regulations Review session was introduced to the SPS Referees to prepare them for the new implementations as they continue to uphold safety, rules and regulations in the field. SPS500 also witnessed a revamp of the series with the introduction of various awards for players and teams such as the Player of the Year, Most Improved Team and Most Valuable Player for all SPS500 events. Among all these significant changes, the most exciting feature we added in 2017 was the introduction of the SPS500 LIVE webcast which aims to promote Singapore and in particular Asia paintball to the rest of the world. This introduction is widely welcomed by most and if not all participants and supporters of the SPS as players review their games after the event and viewers watching at the comfort of their home. SPS500 pre-game talkshows added a dash of fun and teasing leading up to the event. In 2018, SPS500 will introduce a pre-event practice day (to be held on Saturday morning) for teams to do open practices as skirmish days and a SPS500 1vs1 Open Championship 2018 (a 16-player format) for players who are keen to participate in a competition involving the individual s skills and wits. After months of reviewing and the gathering of feedback from the SPS participants, SPS2018 will continue to preserve the SPS500- WPBO format of play which is not only unique to Singapore paintball community but one that is forward looking with many opportunities for expansion. We will also be co-organizing the inaugural SPS-KTM Batam Invitational 2018 in Batam, Indonesia and the 2 nd Asia Girls Paintball International Championship 2018 in Singapore. The SPS Committee will continue to bring you the best of Singapore paintball and remain committed to our series' motto: Progressive, Professional and Passionate. NEW IMPLEMENTATIONS IN SPS 2018 As part of our efforts to develop a community-centric paintball tournament, it is important for the SPS to continue improving in all aspects of tournament management. Through the multiple feedback channels from the local community especially players and various stakeholders, we constantly review our existing processes and explore ways to further improve them. After a series of discussion with stakeholders, the following changes will be implemented in 2018: a) There will be 2 SPS500 events with Division 4 and Open Division games to be played on the same event day and Division 3 games to be played on another separate day from the Division 4 and Open Division. b) SPS2018 will make available an additional Open Practice day on Saturday morning for players and teams to skirmish and practice before the actual game day on Sunday. SPS will not entertain any participant with paintball markers which are not registered and approved in advance with the SPS. If unsure, please do not bring your paintball markers to Singapore without prior approval as they will be confiscated by the Customs during your entry into Singapore. It is a lawful offence in Singapore to be in possession of a paintball marker without a valid permit. OVERSEAS TEAMS AND PLAYERS Overseas teams and players who are committed to participating in the SPS will need to contact the organizers and submit the complete travel itinerary and marker details strictly at least 4 weeks before event date for the clearance of their paintball markers. Prior approval must be sought from the Singapore Police Force for teams to bring their personal paintball equipment across the immigration and custom checkpoint. Teams without prior approval from the SPF will be lawfully dealt with under the Singapore Firearms Act. All overseas teams will need to fill up the SPS Marker Import/Export Form. Information submitted will be sent to Singapore Police Force. All applications are subjected to approval from the Singapore Police Force. There will be no additional cost to the importation and exportation of markers into Singapore as this will sponsored by the SPS for travelling overseas teams and players. However, players entering via Singapore to participate in the SPS-KTM Batam Invitational 2018 may be subjected to application procedures and timelines for additional import and export licences for exit and entry via Batam with the Singapore Police Force for an additional cost of $44.00. Teams and players are advised to import the same number of paintball markers as per their registered team roster with a suggested 2 additional backup markers. E.g. If overseas team registers 9 players in its team roster, they will be eligible to import a total of 11 (9 players + 2 backup) paintball markers for the SPS. We strongly do not recommend for overseas teams to assist Singapore-based players to import/export their markers for the event to allow the SPS to uphold a fair system for Singapore-based participants. Assisting local teams with importation can lead to administrative complications that might arise from accountability issues at the Immigration and Customs Department and the Singapore Police Force. Please submit to your marker details to info@singaporepaintballseries.com at least 4 weeks before the event. We will not be able to entertain any late request due to application and minimum required approval duration by the Singapore Police Force. ELIGIBILITY All participants MUST be 14 years old and above. Participants who are between 14 17 years old inclusive would require parental consent before participation. This tournament is open to all local and overseas players. The adoption of the APPA registration system in 2013 by SPS has added a complement check on players ranking status. This allows the SPS to reserve the rights to determine a player s status in accordance to the player s experience and participation in local and overseas events based on their APPA status and other resources. Teams which are unsure about your players eligibility can email to SPS at info@singaporepaintballeseries.com for verification and confirmation. SPS reserves the right to reject any team s and/or player s participation if he/she is not rightfully registered into his/her respective playing level. To facilitate this process, SPS advises all teams to confirm their team roster early to avoid complications with playing status. SPS will NOT be responsible for any cost incurred by teams or players for ineligibility. The adoption of APPA allows the SPS to match every player's ranking status and experience in accordance to the game format in which they are participating to encourage a level playing field for every team. APPA reserves the right to rank teams and players in accordance to their ranking system. EQUIPMENT Players will need to have their personal paintball equipment such as paintball mask, loaders, tanks, barrel socks, pods, harness/pack, etc. SPS will not be responsible for any loss or damage of the equipment during the event. SPS will provide the use of paintball markers to all Division 4 teams. Paintball markers which do not belong to the SPS must be registered in advance before usage. Division 4 teams with their own paintball markers will need to consult SPS about the usage of their markers during the competition.
