WHO ARE EVENTS RAROTONGA? Events Rarotonga is the newly established Cook Islands events company that brings together the skills of Raro EXPO and General Transport Directors, Sid Toa and Jessie Sword, with Motone Productions Directors Glenda Tuaine and Maurice Newport. Both companies have over 30 years experience in delivering high end professional events and projects in the Cook Islands and internationally. Events Rarotonga will bring a new approach to the event drawing on the previous model of the tournament and developing that to a new level of success. OUR VISION To develop a proactive positive partnership with Cook Islands Rugby Union (CIRU) Generate positive fiscal outcomes for the Tournament, stakeholders and community Increase the number of participating teams Bring back star power to the tournament Develop a schools and community outreach programme OUR STRATEGY The Sevens Tournament in Rarotonga will be taking a new direction in 2017. Formally known as the Cook Islands International 7 s Sevens in Heaven, the Tournament will now be known as the Raro Rugby 7 s and has made changes to the event strategy to include the following: The Tournament will now promote the important message of Men s Health and will include high profile local and international Rugby Stars to promote this message. This also honours the memory of Cook Islands Rugby players and supporters since passed such as Fraser Nooroa and Navy Epati. The Tournament will work with the Ministry of Health and Men s health groups to promote the core messages relating to men. Healthy lifestyle promotion will be integrated into the Tournament. Local player inclusion in the overseas teams 2 under 20 players will be provided the opportunity to play in the overseas teams who participate in the development agreement campaign with the Tournament.
THE DEVELOPMENT CAMPAIGN Overseas teams will be provided the opportunity to assist in building local player experience and skills by selecting to allow 2 local under 20 players to join their squad Participating in the Development Campaign provides entry for certain training workshops that our star players will be conducting. (Please refer to section 3. Outreach Educational Programmes) Events Rarotonga has increased the prize pool money to make the tournament a competitive option for overseas and local teams to participate and to acknowledge the teams commitment to the code. We also invite teams to provide resources to the schools. Coaching Clinics held at the stadium the coaching clinics will focus on technical skill for players and refereeing. Teams will be offered attendance at the clinics. If teams have opted into the Development of the Campaign they will have access to private clinics. Speaking Engagements High profile players will conduct lunch time speaking engagements at the Tournament resort and partners where Q&A sessions, and, meet and greet are the focus.
