Memorandum TO: FROM: DATE: RE: Burgess Hanson, City Manager Kara Petty, CPRP, Director of Parks and Recreation October 7, 2015 Commission Meeting Special Event Application Ranse Jones Classic Parks and Recreation staff has received a special event application for the Ranse Jones Classic from Broward Health North. The applicant is requesting the use of the beach north and south of the International Fishing Pier and to place seven temporary courts east and north of the existing courts and three courts south of the International Fishing Pier from Friday, October 31 st through Sunday, November 2 nd. The event is scheduled to take place Friday through Sunday with the set up on Friday and breakdown Sunday after play is completed. The anticipated attendance for each day is 100-150 people and it is a charity volleyball tournament for stroke awareness. The event applicant is requesting approval by the City Commission to place three additional courts east of the existing courts, four additional courts north of the existing courts, in which the applicant has received permission from Mr. Robert Sweetapple per the attached email exchange, and three courts south of the International Fishing Pier, in which the applicant has received permission from the Wyndham per the attached letter. In addition to the ten additional courts north and south of the pier, the applicant is requesting the use of the seven existing courts north of the International Fishing Pier. The applicant is also requesting the use of two parking spaces in at the Pier Parking Lot and a waiver of the associated fees. RESOLUTION NO. 2014/ A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DEERFIELD BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING THE USE OF THE BEACH NORTH AND SOUTH OF THE PIER AND APPROVING THE PLACMENT OF THREE TEMPORARY VOLLEYBALL COURTS JUST SOUTH OF THE PIER AND SEVEN TEMPORARY VOLLEYBALL COURTS EAST AND NORTH OF THE EXISTING VOLLEYBALL COURTS FROM FRIDAY OCTOBER 31, 2014 THROUGH SUNDAY NOVEMBER 2, 2014; DENYING A WAIVER OF PARKING FEES FOR TWO PARKING SPACES IN THE PIER PARKING LOT; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, Broward Health North is requesting the use of the beach north and south of the Fishing Pier and use of the City s existing volleyball courts, and to place three (3) temporary volleyball courts just south of the Pier, three (3) temporary volleyball courts east of the City s existing volleyball courts, and four (4) temporary volleyball courts north of the City s existing volleyball courts on Friday October 31, 2014 through Sunday November 2, 2014 for the Ranse Jones Classic volleyball tournament in support of the Ranse Jones Stroke Awareness Fund; and WHEREAS, the tournament is expected to attract players from throughout the United States; and WHEREAS, this event will be hosted by Broward Health North; and WHEREAS, the Applicant has requested that the City of Deerfield Beach provide the use of two (2) parking spaces in the Pier parking lot with a fiscal impact of approximately $160.00; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF DEERFIELD BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The above referenced Whereas clauses are true and correct and made a part hereof. Section 2. The City Commission does hereby approve the application for the use of the beach north and south of the Pier, the use of the City s existing volleyball courts, the placement of three (3) temporary courts just south of the Pier, the placement of three (3) temporary volleyball courts east of the existing City volleyball courts, and the place of four (4) temporary volleyball courts north of the existing City volleyball courts on Friday October 31, 2014 through Sunday November 2, 2014. The City Commission hereby denies the requested waiver of parking fees for the use of two (2) parking spaces in the parking lot at the North Beach Pavilion. Section 3. August 29, 2014 John Esposito C/O Rance Volleyball Classic Dear John, This will confirm that the Wyndham Deerfield Beach Resort will allow the Rance Volleyball Classic to place 2 volleyball courts / nets on the beach adjacent to the Resort over the dates of November 1-2, 2014. The general location is directly south of the Deerfield Beach International Fishing Pier and cannot extend beyond the south end of the Resort building. The Rance Volleyball Classic will be responsible to set up and breakdown the volleyball courts / nets. A certificate of insurance will be provided to the Resort by the Rance Volleyball Classic.
