New York fell to Toronto FC last Sunday, 2-0, in the home opener at Red Bull Arena. It was the first time New York was shutout in MLS regular season action since May 24, 2015, snapping a streak of 23 consecutive league games with at least one goal scored. New York was only shutout twice all of last season, and finished as the top scoring team in MLS with 62 goals and +19 goal differential. Red Bulls captain Dax McCarty moved into sole possession of fourth place on the club s all-time appearances list last weekend after starting against Toronto. McCarty s 143 league appearances put him three behind Carlos Mendes for third place overall. Luis Robles made his 107 th consecutive start in goal for New York last weekend. Robles became the all-time franchise leader for career wins and shutouts last season en route to the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year award, MLS Best XI honors and an invitation to the USMNT January camp. The Red Bulls went 6-7-4 on the road last season, tied with Columbus Crew SC for the second-most road wins in MLS behind only Vancouver and Portland (7). New York scored the most road goals of any team in MLS (27) and finished as the only team with a positive road goal differential (+2). Montreal earned a 3-2 win last Sunday over the Vancouver Whitecaps. Ignacio Piatti led the way with two goals and an assist for the Impact. New York is 6-2-2 all-time against Montreal, but just 1-2-2 in road matchups. New York is 1-1-1 in games played at Olympic Stadium. New York claimed its second Supporters Shield in three years last season, finishing with an 18-10-6 record and a league-best +19 goal differential. The 18 wins in 2015 set a franchise record for league wins in a season. New York closed the home portion of the schedule with a 12-3-2 mark, setting a club record for most home wins in a season as well. The Red Bulls reached the Eastern Conference Championship for the second consecutive season, coming just short of a trip to the MLS Cup Final after falling to Columbus, 2-1 over two legs. Jesse Marsch earned MLS Coach of the Year honors after his first season at the helm in New York. NEW YORK RED BULLS vs. MONTREAL IMPACT NOTES LAST TIME OUT NEW YORK The New York Red Bulls fell to Toronto FC, 2-0, TRANSACTIONS last Sunday afternoon in the season opener at Red Bull Arena. Sebastian Giovinco gave Toronto a late IN: lead on a converted penalty and Marco Delgado added a second goal in stoppage time. M Tyler Adams (11/1/15 - USL/Homegrown) Toronto FC was awarded a penalty in the 82 nd minute, when Kemar Lawrence and a Toronto player F Brandon Allen (12/21/15 - Homegrown) contested a low cross played into the penalty area. Giovinco stepped to the spot and fired a low strike to M Derrick Etienne (12/21/15 - Homegrown) the left. Red Bulls goalkeeper Luis Robles guessed right but wasn t able to get a hand on the attempt. F Alex Muyl (12/22/15 - Homegrown) Delgado added the second goal in stoppage time, catching New York on the counter attack and M Chris Thorsheim (12/23/15 - Homegrown) beating Robles with a clean finish. New York held the upper hand for most of the M Mael Corboz (12/23/15 - Homegrown) match, taking 62% of the possession and dominating the early scoring chances. D Scott Thomsen (12/23/15 - Homegrown) It was the first time New York was shutout in a regular season match since May 24, 2015, a 2-0 D - Gideon Baah (2/9/16 - transfer from HJK Helsinki) loss to the Philadelphia Union. The shutout snaps a streak of 23 consecutive MLS regular season games with at least one goal scored. LAST MEETING WITH MONTREAL The New York Red Bulls defeated the Montreal Impact, 2-1, on October 7, 2015 at Red Bull Arena. Sacha Kljestan (PK) and Lloyd Sam scored for New York, while Montreal was reduced to 10 men after a 15 th minute red card to Ambroise Oyongo. Oyongo was issued a red card in the 15 th minute for a handball that kept the ball out of the Impact net. Sacha Kljestan stepped up and buried the ensuing penalty kick to put New York ahead. The Red Bulls were awarded another penalty attempt minutes later after another Montreal infraction inside the penalty area. Kljestan again stepped to the spot and struck a low ball to the right, but this time Bush guessed correctly and pushed the attempt wide. New York doubled the advantage in the 39 th minute with Sam s goal, his third in three games. Sam started the play with a ball through the defense to Wright-Phillips. The forward was able to poke the ball by Bush, but his shot was blocked by a defender. The rebound fell to Sam, who was able to place a shot over the heads of Bush and the defender and in. Montreal pulled one back in the 67 th minute when Didier Drogba converted a penalty kick after an Impact player was taken down in the penalty area on a set piece. MONTREAL CONNECTIONS There are several connections between the club s current rosters. New York head coach Jesse Marsch coached the Impact during their inaugural season in 2012, leading the club to a 12-16-6 record. One of Marsch s Montreal imports was Felipe, who Marsch scouted playing in Switzerland in 2011. Felipe spent three seasons in Montreal, recording 12 goals and 24 assists, including four goals and a career-high 10 assists under Marsch in 2012. Felipe was acquired by New York in a trade prior to the 2015 season that sent midfielder Eric Alexander and outside back Ambroise Oyongo to OUT: D Roy Miller (12/2/15 - option declined) D Anthony Wallace (12/2/15 - option declined) M Leo Stolz (12/2/15 - option declined) F Manolo Sanchez (12/2/15 - option declined) M Marius Obekop (12/2/15 - option declined) M Dane Richards (12/2/15 - option declined) GK Santiago Castano (1/25/16 - released) D Matt Miazga (1/30/16 - transfer to Chelsea) D Shawn McLaws (2/12/16 - waived) M Mael Corboz (2/29/16 - waived) M Scott Thomsen (3/7/16 - waived)

NEW YORK RED BULLS vs. MONTREAL IMPACT NOTES Montreal and gave New York the top spot in the MLS New York Red Bulls All-Time Career Starts allocation rankings, which was used to acquire Sacha Kljestan from RSC Anderlecht. Red Bulls center back and Canadian international Karl Ouimette was signed as the first Homegrown Player in Montreal Impact history ahead of the club s first season. Player Mike Petke Dax McCarty Dane Richards CONSISTENCY IS KEY Games Started 158 138 133 Impact forward Dominic Oduro spent time with New York during the 2009 season, and Montreal forward Cameron Porter played for Princeton University while Marsch served as an assistant in 2013 and 2014. Current Red Bulls assistant coach Denis Hamlett The Red Bulls return 10 of 11 starters from the lineup that spurred the club to the shield victory and into the Eastern Conference Championship last season, with the departure of Matt Miazga to Chelsea FC. All 17 returning field players played in at least 11 MLS matches a season ago. and goalkeepers coach Preston Burpo both served on Marsch s staff in Montreal as well. ONE FOR THE AGES The New York Red Bulls 2015 Supporters Shield winning season will go down as one of the best seasons in club history. Statistically speaking, the Red Bulls set new club records for wins (18) and home wins (12) while recording league-bests in goals (62) and goal differential (+19). The Red Bulls also earned recognitions across the board, from MLS Coach and Goalkeeper of the Year honors for Jesse Marsch and Luis Robles, to an MLS Executive of the Year nod for General Manager Marc de Grandpre, and MLS Best XI and MLS All- Star selections for captain Dax McCarty. Robles set several new franchise marks, while Sacha Kljestan had career-years in goals and assists and tied the franchise single-season assist record. Long Island native Mike Grella was a revelation for New York, contributing nine goals and seven assists after a preseason trial, and set an MLS record for fastest goal scored in league history, seven seconds. Lloyd Sam became just the seventh player in club history to record at least 15 goals and 15 assists in his New York career. The Red Bulls saw three Homegrown Players take the field together in an MLS match for the first time, when Connor Lade, Matt Miazga and Sean Davis all started against New England last April. McCARTY MOVES UP LEADERS LIST After a full 90 minutes against Toronto last weekend, Red Bulls captain Dax McCarty now sits in sole possession of fourth place on the club s all-time appearance list. His 143 appearances for RBNY put him three behind Carlos Mendes for third place, and 23 games behind the all-time leader, Mike Petke. McCarty is second all-time in games started for New York, now with 137, second only to Petke s 158. New York Red Bulls All-Time Appearances Player Appearances Mike Petke 169 Dane Richards 159 Carlos Mendes 146 Dax McCarty 143 Seth Stammler 142 John Wolyniec 142 ROAD TESTED The 2015 Red Bulls set a franchise record for wins at home, but proved to be a formidable opponent away from Red Bull Arena as well. New York finished with a 6-7-4 road record, tied for the second-most road wins in MLS last season, with the most road goals scored, 27, and the only positive road goal differential, +2. BAAH MAKES HIS DEBUT Gideon Baah made his Red Bulls debut last weekend against Toronto, and showed well as part of a center back tandem with Ronald Zubar. Baah and Zubar held reigning MVP Sebastian Giovinco in check for most of the afternoon, limiting him to just two shots on goal, including his penalty attempt, and drawing five offside calls against TFC. The Red Bulls completed the transfer of Gideon Baah from Finnish side HJK Helsinki on February 9. Baah s professional career began with Asante Kotoko in the Ghana Premier League. In early 2013, he was sent on loan to FC Honka of the Veikkausliiga, the top division in Finland. After impressing in his first season, FC Honka completed the transfer of Baah in July 2013. Baah made the move to HJK Helsinki in 2014. He appeared in four UEFA Champions League qualification matches for HJK last summer, recording one goal and one assist. In all, Baah has made 70 appearances in the Finnish league over the last three seasons, totaling four goals and seven assists. He has six appearances in each the UEFA Champions League and Europa League. The 24-year-old made his senior debut for the Ghanaian national team in October 2015, in a match against Canada at RFK Stadium that also saw current Red Bull Lloyd Sam make his debut for the Black Stars. BALANCED ATTACK All of RBNY s starting four attacking players from 2015 - Bradley Wright-Phillips, Lloyd Sam, Mike Grella and Sacha Kljestan recorded at least seven goals and seven assists last season. Only 18 players in all of MLS had at least seven & seven, and no other team had four players that reached that mark. IRON MAN New York Red Bulls goalkeeper Luis Robles has an eye on league history. Robles rewrote the franchise record books in 2015, setting new club records for wins (50) and shutouts (28), passing Tony Meola in both categories. The Arizona native will look to add his name to the league record books in 2016. Robles is the only player in MLS history to start 100 consecutive games for the same franchise. His current streak of 107 consecutive games started and full 90-minutes played is the second-longest such streak in league history behind only Kevin Hartman (112). In addition to his win and shutout milestones, Robles is also at or near the top in all the major goalkeeper statistical categories in team history. Robles leads the franchise in goals against average (1.30). Robles also has the teams best winning percentage (.589). 90 Minutes Played in Consecutive MLS Regular Season Games 1. Kevin Hartman 112 2. Luis Robles 107 3. Jimmy Nielsen 90 4. Matt Reis 88 5. Scott Garlick 83 KLJESTAN IS THE KEY Sacha Kljestan burned up the score sheet in the second half of 2015, recording six goals and 13 assists over the last 19 regular season games. Kljestan finished the year with eight goals and 14 assists, tying Thierry Henry and Eduardo Hurtado for the alltime franchise record. Kljestan s run started with two assists in a win over New York City FC at Yankee Stadium on June 28. Only once did the midfielder go two consecutive games without a goal or assist for the rest of the season. His season-long point-streak reached five games during a stretch from late August into September. BWP EYES CLUB RECORD With 17 goals in 2015, Bradley Wright-Phillips continues to close in on the club s all-time scoring record.
