www.mountmartharotary.org..au Bulletin Monday 10th August 2015 Meets weekly at Benito s Restaurant 1196 Nepean Highway, Mount Eliza 5975 8060 I S S U E N O 0 5-2 0 1 5 / 1 6 6.00pm for 6.30pm start July is Literature Month Hello Rotarians May I start by thanking our speaker last Monday, Peter Dell, for providing an inspirational presentation on Dream Cricket. Our involvement in this project is a no brainer, and I must also thank Bill Cummins for his enthusiastic approach in taking the leadership role. It was great to see Visiting Rotarian Barry Rawlings joining us on his 84 th birthday and having to suffer a rendition of happy birthday. On a night for visiting Rotarians, we also had the pleasure of PDG Kel and Jill Hobby s company. I am pleased to inform the Club that Jonathan Mayne came home from hospital on Thursday after having to undergo a procedure. In what turned out to be quite an unusual situation, Jonathan was advised he was to have a roommate to keep him company, and guess who that person was that s right, wife Jenny. I m sure Sergeant Paul can make something of this. As mentioned last Monday, James Ivanovski has tendered his resignation to Rotary Club of Mt Martha. Although work commitments have not changed, he felt that his maritime past would be of more use by joining the volunteer coast guard. I will be taking the annual sabbatical to Noosa on Tuesday for two weeks, not the four weeks enjoyed last year. It s called sacrifice to the cause. Vice President PP David Wheeler will take over and keep the wheels turning. I look forward to reading David s Drivel in next week s Bulletin. LAST MEETING AT BENITO S RESTAURANT What is Dream Cricket? DreamCricket was initiated by Dr Roly Bigg of the Movement Disorder Foundation in concert with the Rotary Clubs of the Southern Highlands and the Bradman Foundation. The aim was to provide primary school students with special needs an opportunity to play cricket activities on Bradman Oval. The DreamCricket program has grown to encompass schools and children throughout Australia and internationally. Dream Cricket mission is? A special needs program enabling the community to create opportunities to grow and develop self-esteem and inspire confidence in children. Dream Cricket commenced in Bowral NSW and involves Special Development Schools (SDS) throughout Australia and overseas. It is hoped it can be introduced into all SDS s in Australia by end of 2016. We have 17 SDS s in District 9820 and all will be visited this Rotary year. Bill Cummins and Peter visited Mornington SDS today and spoke about the program with the Principal and staff. They appeared to be interested and will contacte Bill C either later this Term or early in Term 4. The idea is to commence with a 1 hour clinic with as many children as possible with the local Rotary Club meeting the cost of the equipment which is $600. Rotary members would provide help at the clinics along with School staff. Rotarians must be enthusiastic with the children no matter how big or small their achievement is. Peter also showed 3 DVD s of the various types of programs that can be run under the Dream Cricket banner including 1 in India. Many questions were asked and answered in the question time at the end of the presentation. Martin Lowe announced that 16 students were successful in the latest NYSF interviews (held 2 weekends ago) and they will go to Canberra in January 2016. Unfortunately our student was not successful. PP Bill handed the meeting back to Pres Peter who thanked our visitors for coming. Meeting closed at 7.50pm
