Stewards' Reports Print DUNKELD RACING CLUB Date: Saturday 16 November 2013 Track: Dead Penetrometer: Slow 6 Weather: Fine Rail: True Stewards Panel: Ms H Lester (Chairman), Messrs Beattie, Rae & Bettess Other Comments / Explanations: Registered stablehand Mr P Weir pleaded guilty to a charge under AR175(gg) in that he made a false statement to the horse gate officials stating that a travelling companion for The Mastermind was the filly Segacious Rose which had been scratched from race one, when it was in fact a gelding called Make the Dream Come True which was not entered to race today. Mr Weir was fined the sum of $200.00. The stewards upgraded the track rating to Dead 5 at 1:58pm. Race 1 australian stockyards 3yo maiden plate - 1000 metres: Tycoon Queen was marginally slow to begin. Shortly after the start Little Hulla, which had been slow to begin had to be steadied when tightened for room between Miss Promiscuity and Cilla s Choice both of which shifted ground. Near the 600m Don tcallmechunky improved up onto the heels of Racing Harada. When being restrained Don tcallmechunky got its head up and became unbalanced. Cilla s Choice raced wide without cover. Race 2 darriwill farm maiden plate - 1000 metres: A representative of the M Williams stabled advised that they would be instructing P Mertens to ride Change Course in a more forward position today. Change Course was marginally slow to begin and settled further back than anticipated. On jumping away The Masterpiece shifted out and bumped Assez Bien out onto Change Course. Near the 600m Assez Bien got its head up and was eased when placed in restricted room for a short distance. On the latter part of the home turn Change Course had a tendency to lay in behind Tivauche Belle. L Meech rider of Miss Pin Up advised that her mount hung in throughout the event. When questioned, in particular as to her riding in the straight, S Brazil rider of Assez Bien stated that upon straightening she had initially sought an inside run but was then disappointed for that run when Prussian Miss shifted in slightly. S Brazil added that she then elected to shift to the outside of Prussian
Miss however her mount then ducked in abruptly and had to be steadied off the heels of that mare which placed her at a disadvantage for the remainder of that race. Race 3 3ha/mixxfm maiden plate - 1200 metres: M Lewis trainer of Kyra Park advised that he would be instructing rider C Robertson to settle the gelding, which was ridden towards the lead last start before compounding where comfortable today. Kyra Park raced toward the rear of the field. N McLean rider of Golden Perfume suffered a harmless fall in the mounting yard. N McLean was examined at the barrier by the doctor and passed fit to ride. Goldies Lass was kicked behind the barriers by another runner and passed unfit to run by the Club s Veterinary Surgeon. Acting on this advice stewards ordered the withdrawal of Goldie Lass at 1:15pm. All monies bet for a win and/or place and concession betting on the late scratching to be refunded. All successful bets on horses prior to time of withdrawal are subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket: Win Bets Miss Magnus - 2 cents Place Bets (For Winner) Miss Magnus - 2 cents Place Bets (For 2) Golden Perfume 7 cents Place Bets (For 3) Smokeytown 5 cents *All monies bet after the Stewards declaration of withdrawal to be paid at face value of ticket. On jumping away Smokeytown shifted out abruptly and hampered Kyra Park. Vibration was marginally slow to begin. When questioned as to why he got back in the field today after being in a forward position in the early stages. B Thornton rider of Here De Siren explained that near the 1000m when crossed by Smokeytown, his mount commenced to pull hard and for this reason he restrained Here De Siren. B Thornton further added he was then crossed by Cherry Cherry and as he felt he was getting close to heels he further restrained his mount and as a result ended up at the rear of the field. Stewards advised B Thornton that although they could understand why he would restrain off heels it would have been in the best interest of his horse today to have maintained his forward position early when he had the opportunity to do so. Kyra Park and Vibration both raced keenly through the early stages. Ninesmine raced wide without cover. For some distance rounding the home turn Miss Magnus was held up when unable to improve its position. Approaching the 200m Pocket Thief had to be steadied when momentarily tightened between Ninesmine and Miss Magnus which shifted out to obtain clear running. Ninesmine had tendency to lay in in the straight A veterinary examination of Here De Siren failed to reveal any abnormality.
Race 4 dml security handicap - 1200 metres: On jumping away Kvinnakel was hampered when tightened for room between Likely Lad and Balzac which shifted out and away from Tayla Lee which shifted out. Bel Rhytym was marginally slow to begin. Balzac raced wide during the early stages before being permitted to stride forward and take up the lead near the 600m. Shortly after straightening Beaumaris shifted in and brushed I Am In Command. From the entrance to the straight Beaumaris had difficulty obtaining a clear run and near the 100m had to be steadied when disappointed for a run between Pure Courage and Tayla Lee which shifted in slightly. Beaumaris then did not obtain clear running for the remainder of the straight and went to the line not fully tested. Over the concluding stages I Am In Command had some difficulty in obtaining a clear run. Race 5 the off the bench bucket list handicap - 1000 metres: Choiciti jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. Tully Plenty jumped away awkwardly unbalancing its rider H McKechnie. Hang On Tight raced three wide without cover. For some distance rounding the home turn until the entrance to the straight Stone Lucky was held up. For a short distance rounding the home turn De Green D Or was disappointed for clear running. C Nicoll rider of Cannie Ridge pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that at the entrance to the straight he permitted his mount to shift out to obtain a run where there was insufficient room from behind Hang On Tight and this resulted in Perossa being hampered when tightened onto Tully Plenty and it also resulted in Cannie Ridge becoming unbalanced. C Nicoll s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence midnight 19 November 2013 and to expire midnight 26 November 2013 making a total of 8 meetings. In arriving at penalty the stewards took into account C Nicoll s guilty plea, good record and Stewards believe the incident was in the low range. Race 6 xxxx gold handicap - 1800 metres: When the gates were released Surprise Us bounded in the air and lost ground. Ginger s Gem was marginally slow to begin and shortly after the start had to be checked over the heels of Rankin when taken in by Jeunelism which was in turn taken in by Marmaduke Jinx. Just Call Me Bruce got its head up when being restrained in the early stages. Near the 1300m Surprise Us had to be restrained off the heels of Just Call Me Bruce when the pace steadied. Marmaduke Jinx which had been caught wide was allowed to stride to the lead near the 1200m. A Mallyon rider of Rankin stated that the gelding weakened from the 600m and did not respond to his riding and for this reason he eased Rankin down in the straight. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Race 7 royal mail hotel william thomson dunkeld cup - 1800 metres: On jumping away Grey Monarch was hampered when tightened for room between Gatalistic and Xavier both of which shifted ground. Gatalistic over raced for some considerable distance after passing the 1400m and near the 1000m shifted out to gain clear running taking Late Night Flight wider on the course. Rounding the home turn Scelto was held up. R Plumb rider of Grey Monarch which performed poorly advised that the gelding hung out from the 600m and did not feel right in its action in front. A veterinary examination of Grey Monarch revealed the gelding was suffering from mild thumps.
L Meech rider of Light Tan which performed below market expectations stated that the gelding raced wide throughout the event and failed to respond to her riding. A veterinary examination of Light Tan failed to reveal any abnormalities. The Club s veterinary surgeon reported a post race veterinary examination of Hornet s Nest revealed the gelding had a laceration to its near side hip. Race 8 unibet handicap (1) - 1200 metres: C Marshall, trainer of the winner Irish Lute, was questioned regarding the apparent improved performance today. C Marshall stated that the gelding had been getting its tongue over the bit at its most recent starts and benefitted from the addition of the tongue tie. Small Patch broke down in the near fore leg near the 900m and was humanely euthanased. Approaching the 100m Vin De Vie was disappointed for a run between Irish Lute and Lubin Gin Fizz before switching to the inside to obtain clear running. Race 9 desiree gill memorial handicap (2) - 1200 metres: Kadena Lane was slow to begin. Ready Rex jumped away awkwardly. Illusionary Star raced keenly through the middle and passing the 400m had to be steadied off the heels of Curatrix. H McKechnie rider of Darwin George advised on scale that the gelding had been marginally slow to begin and knuckled and as it did not feel right in its action she elected to ease it out of the race at the 600m. A veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormality. Trainer P Young was notified that Darwin George was now suspended from racing until such time that it performs to the satisfaction of the stewards in a trial. P Young also undertook to notify stewards if any reason comes to light that could explain the performance today.
