SPC Sport Report Term 3, Week 6 We are now nearing the completion of all Term 3 BAS Sport, which includes basketball, table tennis, squash and racquetball, senior hockey, junior and senior soccer. With rugby and football finishing a few weeks ago we now turn our attention to the Sporting Dinners. Dates are as follows. Rugby Thursday Sep 6 Football Tuesday Sep 11 Soccer Thursday Sep 20 Be sure to purchase your ticket from the College Shop ASAP. BAS Lap of the Lake Last Wednesday the SPC Cross-country team participated in the BAS Lap of the Lake. This event is the final fixture on the BAS cross-country schedule. All of our boys performed well and our results were very pleasing: Our top five placings in each level were as follows: Junior: Ben Mornane 1st Jack Flanagan 4th Lachlan Wills 5th Sam Pearse 9th Josh McCulloch 13th Intermediate: Harry Sharp 1st Darcy Williams 2nd Ben Stevens 4th

Finn Lappin 9th Josh Ballinger 14th Senior: Andrew Amor 1st Matthew Catterson 2nd Sam Williams 3rd Ayden Hayward 4th Charlie Wheatland 6th (Kyle Smith 7th) Soccer St Patrick Senior s 5 def Ballarat High School 0 BEST: Connor Ascough, Mitch Ralston, Jayden Ashmore, David Carton, Jude Jeandet, Darby Gaffney, Kale Huggett GOALS: Connor Ascough 2, Darby Gaffney 2, Own Goal If we won this, we would ensure a spot in the BAS Grand Final and a return to exact revenge against College. And yes we did more than win this event but put together a very professional performance from all areas of the pitch. We controlled the ball for the first ten minutes with Mitch Ralston and Jud Jeandet very prominent in the centre, but High School kept pressing hard and competing across the middle. Further concern arrived in the form of Liam Dawson who is known as a seriously talented local striker. However, it was Connor Ascough who picked up an opportune moment to put us ahead. Kale Huggett had been responsible for a number of forward thrusts and again off

his wing we won the ball and it arrived in Connor s area with him given a bit of space to get control and shoot strongly from 25 metres for our first 1-0. Mitch Ralston won the ball in the centre and he was needing all his skill to shake off their centers but he was able to put a ball past the defensive line to the right of the box. Connor Ascough out sped their defense and put a cross in to Darby Gaffney who sized and beat the keeper for 2-0. Our third goal knocked the High School players confidence as they had not been able to score despite Dawson gaining control in a central attacking area, but our defense in Jayden Ashmore and Patrick Heagney with Jude Jeandet surrounding him and giving him no sighters on goal. It came again through good work from Kale Huggett who put a dangerous ball across our goals with our forwards placed dangerously causing their defender to provide us with an own goal 3-0. The second half saw no let up from St Pats as we continued to attack off both wings. Mitch Ralston played the perfect ball from centre out to the left wing and Leighton Lauton sliced the small opportunity offered for a classic finish, but it was adjudged offside. Connor had two more close shots on goal and Mitch was clearly on top of their previously active central players. Patrick Heagney was turning their attacks at the back and Jayden Ashmore showed great judgement cutting out balls from attackers. David Carton had an extremely good game as goalkeeper and he was stopping balls high and balls under pressure from advancing attackers. Our fourth goal was one to remember and was due to the remarkable athleticism of our striker Connor Ascough. He passed to Kale who returned a sharp return back which Connor picked up quickly and got a shot off between two defenders so quickly that it went to the keeper so fast he couldn t react as it dribbled under his feet and into the back of the net 4-0.

Darby Gaffney scored our last goal from a corner, which somehow hit the inside of the far side upright before going in 5-0. So a complete team performance from strikers, backs and our centre line and all players contributed. It is a busy time for soccer players with local finals, end of metro season matches, the Premier s Competition in Epping Stadium on Friday September 7 th and one more BAS match before the Grand Final on Wednesday September 12 th. Term 4 Sport meetings will either be late term 3 or early term 4 so please listen to the morning messages and check your emails for details. Sports on offer include croquet, ultimate frisbee, mountain bike riding, junior tennis, junior and inter volleyball, senior cricket, junior rugby house 7 s. 2 nd s it s not often a coach of a soccer team will celebrate a 4:0 loss but today the second 11 stepped out against Clarendon 1st coming off a succession of heavy dispiriting defeats. They took out a plan for containment and gave 110% to the team effort and even managed a few good strikes on the opposition goal. The team is mostly year 10 players going up against faster, stronger players in every position. Harry Venner, Max Britt, Kia O Keefe, Max Hofler (Captain) Ambrose Haddon, Vi Do Huang Nguyen, Darcy Cosgrove, Otto Saunders, Bailey Colligan, Nathan Delvesco, Archie Pollard and Tom Gorman. Regards David Carpenter St Patrick Senior s 8 defeated College Red 1 BEST: Jordan Armstrong, Jude Jeandet, Connor O Callaghan, Darby Gaffney, Mitch Ralston GOALS: Jordan Armstrong 4, Darby Gaffney 2, Mitch Ralston, Flynn Squire

Kale Huggett got behind their defense and crossed into the box with Mitch Ralston finishing it off 1-0. Jordan Armstrong went for the overhead kick and the shot just passed over the horizontal bar. More theatrics from Jordan as he scored our second goal. A ball was put into the box in the air from a defender s inaccurate header and Jordan reached out in a lunging dive and got his boot to it from close in 2-0. Darby Gaffney was collecting on the left wing while Kale Huggett was a live wire on the right wing and they continued to threaten College s backmen. Connor O Callaghan had a rare run through from the backline and with 1-2 passing with Kale he went close with a shot over the bar. Mitch Ralston was dominating in the centre and he found Jude Jeandet who ran the ball through the centre of the pitch and his shot drew a good save. A dubious penalty went our way and with three St Pats boys close by but no one thinking they were infringed, Darby had to be called up to take the shot and he placed it wide of the keeper who didn t bother 3-0. A turn over in the centre and Connor Ascough made that perfectly weighted ball allowing Darby to receive it on a plate and score his second inside a minute. The second half was a bit more scrappy and they should have been the first to score but their final kick was blind of the goals. Matt Layton ran the ball forward and eluded the defense before he centred to the waiting Jordan Armstrong who shot cleanly for his second. With Jordan picking off the ball from the defenders situated on the central line, he was able to take the ball all the way to the 18 yards and picked off the keeper for a classy third goal. Neill Nilwiset, Leighton Lauton and Jordan Leighton kept the turn overs coming in the centre and we were receiving more chances up front. Jordan Armstrong received the ball and ran through their defense before going deep inside the 18 yards and wrong footing the keeper which allowed him in for an easy kill 7-0. We let them in for a goal as our defense looked at each other inside our 18 yards. We finished off the scoring with Flynn Squire making sure of his goal as their defense and keeper approached him, only for him to chip the ball over their heads and into the goals 8-1.

St Patrick Green 0 were defeated by College Seniors 4 Mr Carpenter reported that his team played an enormous game against the other College team, considering that they are all year 10s against their best team.
