ROCHES BEACH CROSS TRIATHLON 2018 ra ft 8 DECEMBER 2018 ORANA GIRL GUIDE CAMP ROCHES BEACH 10:00AM D 750M SWIM THEN 15KM MTB AND 6KM TRAIL RUN OR DRY CROSS 2.5 km run/15km mtb/6km run TRAIL RUN - 6 km SPONSORED BY: Brought to you by Triathlon South, Tasmania s Southern most tri club for FULL DETAILS REFER TO rochesbeachxtri.com

WELCOME TO THE ROCHES BEACH CROSS TRIATHLON Triathlon South, Hobart, are proud to present this event. The Roches Beach Cross Triathlon is a national qualifying race for the Australian team competing at the World Cross Triathlon Championships at Pontevedra, Spain in April/May 2019 and is also a club race. It is the fifth year Triathlon South has hosted this race in Southern Tasmania. Triathlon South is a grass roots not-for-profit sports club run by a volunteer committee who love the sport of triathlon in all its forms and dedicate a lot of time and energy into organising triathlon races for the benefit of our members and local community. Our underlying philosophy is about participation and keeping fit while having fun in a safe and supportive environment. Any proceeds from holding our events remain in the club to facilitate future events. We are Australia s most Southern triathlon club, the largest triathlon club in Tasmania (by membership base), and the only triathlon club in southern Tasmania. Our club has been running successful events since 2005, including both the Tasmanian Sprint Distance Championships in Triathlon and Duathlon, and has more recently added the Tasmanian Cross Triathlon Championships and the Tasmanian Aquathlon Championships to its Summer calendar. The Club also runs a number of more low-key triathlon and duathlon events for its members and the public. We are looking forward to hosting this event at our event home, the Orana Girl Guide Camp at Roches Beach (near Lauderdale), in the Clarence Municipality, which is about a 10 minute drive from the Hobart Airport and approximately 20 minutes drive to Hobart. Roches Beach offers an ideal location for this event, with beautiful clear water, a fantastic coastal trail to run along, and beautiful vista of the coast line atop the highest point of the mountain bike course. Orana offers great facilities with parking and a kids play area within the complex. The Roches Beach Cross Triathlon are both open to the public to enter, with teams welcome.

FORMAT & COURSE DESCRIPTION NOTE: Every effort is made to clearly mark the course, however, the underlying responsibility for your safe and efficient navigation is up to you. Please take the time to read this document, and view the maps to familiarise yourself with the course prior to race day. 750 METRE SWIM (CROSS TRIATHLON COMPETITORS ONLY): (See map at Attachment 2) Swim start will be from the Bambra Reef end of the beach. The course will be a 500m straight line swim parallel to the beach then turn left round the buoy. This buoy will be opposite the Lauderdale Yacht Club Tower, turn left again around a second buoy to line you up for the swim to the beach. Exit water, and run to transition through a cordoned access route. DRY X First Leg (see map at Attachment 3) Dry X competitors will start at the same time as the swimmers, and will head north along the beach. Near the end of the end of teh beach they will turn left up a flight of stairs and keep climbing until they reach Kira Rd. They will cross Kira road and will continue to climb up Single Hill on the Tangara Track, until they make a left and down hill turn heading towards Bardia Rd. Competitors will run on the grass on teh side of the road. At the end of Bardia they will turn left down Nowra Rd and then another left entering Orana and then into transition. Runners should be wary of cyclists leaving transition and should give them right of way. TRAIL RUN Runners will start of the beach 15 minutes after the Cross Triathlon and Dry X have started. They will head north along the beach until they reach the stairs at the end. They climb the stairs and then turn right to head along the coastal track. They will run along the track past the houses and continue over the gully bridge heading towards 7 Mile Beach. Approximately 200 m past the beach they will turn off the main trail and run on developed native animal tracks, following the markings as they weaves northwards constantly kissing the coast line. Runners, at times, will need to be cautious due to the proximity of the cliff face and "no overtaking" sections will exist. Prior to returning, the track runs down next to the rocky shoreline then turns up to the main coastal track where runners go left towards home. After the reverse crossing of the gully bridge, runners turn up to the end of Kirra road. They turn left to run approx. 500 m before turning up Single Hill, where they run next to the MTB circuit before turning down into Bardia Crt keeping to the left and on the grass (care needs to be taken here if wet) followed by a left into Nowra Rd (still running on the grass), then another 600 metres before turning left into Orana and the finish. 15 KM MOUNTAIN BIKE RIDE (INCLUDING 2 LAPS OF THE WALLABY CIRCUIT): (See map at Attachment 4A and 4B) The course will be well sign-posted with arrows, bunting, paint on the track, tape and marshals well positioned to provide direction. From transition head out around the perimeter of Orana on the grass, then turn left onto the gravel road to head to the intersection, right turn onto Nowra Road, obeying the instructions from the Fire Marshals controlling traffic. Follow the road up the hill until the end of the Cul de sac. Enter Tangara Trail as indicated, a short straight ride past some pine trees, then a sharp right hand turn that will take you to an open paddock. The trail zig-zags up the left hand side of the hill and will be clearly marked. At the top of this zig-zag hill

section you will enter the Wallaby single track which is sign-posted (at this stage you will be starting your ride of the Wallaby track in a clock-wise direction). o This single-track section is about 3.8k long. From the start of the Wallaby track, there is now a short winding climb to the top of the hill (remember to take a second to take in the view), where you will start flowing back down the hill with lots of switchbacks. You will pop out of the Wallaby track very near to where you entered it it will be well sign-posted. Once you are back to the open hill paddock, you will descend by following another zig-zag track. At the base of the hill paddock, turn left and follow the fence line down a well ridden track through the paddock until it intersects with Nowra Road. At this point you need to exercise caution as you will be re-joining the sealed road. This is the start of your second lap. A marshal will be at this point directing you to turn right and head back up Nowra Road to the end of the Cul-de-sac. Complete a full second lap of the Wallaby Track, when you arrive back at the Nowra intersection for the second time, you will turn left onto Nowra Road, with caution. Continue along the sealed road heading back to transition the same way as you came out. NOTE: The mountain bike leg travels on a rural residential road in part. This road is not closed to traffic but is managed by the Rural Fire Service on our behalf during the race with lowered speed limits, and with volunteer road marshals assisting. o o Traffic Hazards and red or yellow flag: in addition to following standard road rules and Triathlon Australia race competition rules, competitors should note instructions provided by road marshals: If a road marshal waves a flag, competitors must slow down and be prepared to stop. 6 KM ROAD, TRAIL RUN (1LAPS) (See map at Attachment 5A ) From transition run onto the beach as indicated.

Complete the short run back to the entrance of Orana and down the gravel road back into transition. Follow bunting and Marshal direction for start of second lap. Repeat. On the return after the second lap, athletes will be directed through a finishing chute to conclude their race! NOTE: all competitors must have their torso covered for the run and wear suitable footwear (no bare feet allowed). TRANSITION: Transition is on the grassed area in the Orana grounds. All the usual services such as Registration, Medical, drinks station, fruit station, bag drop and free BBQ will be provided near transition. Public toilets are on site, including shower facilities.
