ROUND 3 / MAY 1, 2016 MILLVILLE, NEW JERSEY / NEW JERSEY MOTORSPORTS PARK ROAD RACE P60 MOTOAMERICA AMA/FIM NORTH AMERICAN ROAD RACING CH WHAT CHAMPIONS When you re in the hole, you gotta fight your way out! That s what Cameron Beaubier did in New Jersey with a resounding double victory. Beaubier (1) made the most of the pole position in race two and quickly shot to a lead he wouldn t relinquish.
AMPIONSHIP VOL. 53 ISSUE 17 MAY 2, 2016 P61 DO BY RENNIE SCAYSBROOK PHOTOGRAPHY BY BRIAN J NELSON Cameron Beaubier used his factory Monster Energy/ Graves Yamaha YZF-R1 to great effect over the weekend, taking pole position in the dry and a double win in the wet at New Jersey Motorsport Park to vault himself back into championship contention and let the MotoAmerica Superbike field know the reigning champ is back in business. Beaubier went into the fourth round of the series seventh in the points standings behind the firstand second-placed Yoshimura Suzukis of Roger Hayden and Toni Elias, and left second in the points to new series leader, teammate Josh Hayes, who carded 2-2 results in New Jersey. The rain proved a bad omen for the Yosh machines with Elias taking only 18-12 finishes and Hayden 9-17 for the round, dropping the former title leader to third in the standings.
ROUND 3 / MAY 1, 2016 MILLVILLE, NEW JERSEY / NEW JERSEY MOTORSPORTS PARK ROAD RACE New Jersey was nothing short of a disaster for Toni Elias who slipped to fourth in the points, 13 behind new leader Hayes. P62 MOTOAMERICA AMA/FIM NORTH AMERICAN ROAD RACING CH SUPERBIKE/SUPERSTOCK 1000 For Beaubier, the objective was clear: use this round to get back in the hunt and hope for a touch of misfortune for his rivals. It worked out almost better than he could have hoped for. Beaubier has worked tremendously over the years to improve his speed in the wet and this time it was used to excellent effect, as the champion laid down a pace simply untouchable by his rivals. Race one was held in torrential conditions with Beaubier missing the start from pole to trail teammate Hayes into turn one. He quickly took the lead however, and then cruised to victory in dominant fashion. For me, that was one of the most difficult races I ve run in my career, Beaubier said. I ve been in rain races before and I ve won, but it was really tough out there. It seemed too easy to give it just a little bit too much throttle, and get into trouble, so I really had to focus on what I was doing. Race two was more of the same, although this time Beaubier made the most of pole position by taking the lead at the first corner and riding into the distance on a treacherous track. The rain had let up, but the track still had plenty of standing water. At the beginning, I was kind of stressed out because I thought I was riding better in the second race, Cameron said. But then, I saw +0 on my pitboard, and I said, Oh, no. But, I just tried to be smooth, and I was able to stretch out the lead as the laps wound down. This weekend, for both Josh and me, has been great because it s been a huge recovery in points for us. Now, we are one and two in the championship, which is a great place to be at this point in the season. Hayes played it safe in both races and leaves for round five at Road America in one month s
AMPIONSHIP VOL. 53 ISSUE 17 MAY 2, 2016 P63 time the new championship leader by four points over his young teammate. I can t say there are too many times where I ve wanted to settle for second, but for that race, I guess I did at least a little bit, Hayes commented at the end of race two. Cam rode a really good race, just like he did in the first one. Sometimes, you have to take what you can get in these things. I m happy to be in first place in the points, and it s great to have us one and two in the championship, especially after how things have gone for us so far this year. Third at New Jersey went to a restart, but I had to keep concentrated because it was only the first lap. There were 15 laps to go and I kept pushing. After a few laps I saw Hayden Gillim in front of me so I tried to catch him and I did. I m pretty happy and I have to say thanks to the marshals for cleaning the track and everyone for working so hard the last two nights because I crash (in practice). I can t wait for the next race. Gillim (Cycle World Suzuki GSX-R1000) was a star of the weekend as the privateer took 10-4 results in the rain for second overall in Superstock 1000 behind Corti and in front of a brildelighted Claudio Corti. Riding the HSBK Aprilia, not only did the Italian take the Superstock 1000 wins, he also gave it good and proper to the majority of the Superbikes. His two Superstock wins vaulted him into the championship points lead with 111 points, nine clear of Wheels In Motion/Meen Motorsports Josh Herrin. Avoiding the crashing Jake Gagne (Broaster Chicken Roadrace Factory Yamaha YZF- R1) in race two, Corti said, I lose many positions (avoiding the crash). I was scared because I almost hit him. I had to brake hard and almost stop and then Corti (71) rode like a man possessed in the Superstock 1000 class. Pegram (72) proved he s still got it.

SUPERSPORT/SUPERSTOCK 600 Runaway Supersport title leader Garrett Gerloff came crashing back to earth in New Jersey, with 2-DNF results slicing his title lead to just two points over Y.E.S/Graves Yamaha teammate JD Beach. Beach finally clinched his first win of the season in race one over Gerloff by 2.8 seconds with Wheels in Motion/Motosport. com/meen Yamaha rider Joe Roberts scoring his first podium of the season in third. A crash at the start of race two involving Gerloff, Beach and M4 Suzuki s Cameron Petersen saw a full restart with Gerloff
AMPIONSHIP VOL. 53 ISSUE 17 MAY 2, 2016 P65 Mamola held on for his first win on American soil in the Superstock 600 race two encounter. unable to make the grid. And for 99 percent of the race it looked as though Roberts was headed for his first win of the season until he crashed on the final lap and handed Petersen the win. It was the South African s first-ever success in the class on American soil. Petersen s teammate Valentin Debise took second with Beach in third. It was a tough race, Petersen said. I knew that I stood a better chance in these conditions. The first part of the race this morning before the re-start was tricky. There was a lot of standing water. We just had to put that behind us (the crash) because we knew it wasn t our fault. I lined up for the second part, got a pretty good start and then once Joe passed us it seemed like he had a really good pace. I followed him around for most of the race and on the last lap he was pushing hard and pulled a gap on me. Then he kind of gifted me the win and I couldn t be happier. In the Superstock 600 class, Bryce Prince (Riders Discount Tuned Racing Yamaha YZF-R6) took the race one win over Connor Blevins (EMR Excel Racing Kawasaki) with Dakota Mamola (HB Racing/Meen Yamaha) in third. For race two, Mamola
ROUND 3 / MAY 1, 2016 MILLVILLE, NEW JERSEY / NEW JERSEY MOTORSPORTS PARK ROAD RACE Doesn t matter if it s wet or dry, the RC Cup finishes are always this close. This time it went to Barry (717) in race two. MOTOAMERICA AMA/FIM NORTH AMERICAN ROAD RACING CHAMPIONSHIP P66 would turn the tables for his first win of the season to head Andy DiBrino (ICON/Motosport.com/ DiBrino Racing Yamaha) and JC Camacho on the Altus Motorsports Yamaha. Prince now leads the standings with 81 points to Mamola s 72 with DiBrino third on 52. KTM RC CUP The usual madness of the KTM RC Cup was on display at New Jersey, with Brandon Paasch taking the race-one win ahead of Anthony Mazziotto III, Ashton Yates, Brandon Altmeyer and Jody Barry. The top five were covered by just 0.315 seconds. My first thought was to get out front and just go, Paasch said. I knew it wasn t going to work after a couple of laps. I kept trying, but then I was like, I don t know why I m doing this. I just fell back and stayed back there in fourth, fifth for a little bit and the last couple of laps I just started making moves because I knew I had to be at least second coming out on the straightaway. I wound up leading onto the straightaway which wasn t the ideal thing, but that s what happened and it worked. Race two went to Barry over Paasch with Josh Serne taking third. I was thankful for the rain today, Barry said. In the dry I just wasn t getting it because the draft was killing me. With my size, I can maybe get a little better grip in the corners in the wet. In the title chase, Paasch holds a 12-point advantage with 90 points over Mazziotto III on 78 with Barry third on 60. CN
