Volume: 2 Issue: 3 November 17, 2017 "Jesus Christ is the same YESTERDAY, TODAY, and FOREVER." - Hebrews 13:8 Continued prayers as the Vandebilt community mourns the loss of our beloved teacher, Mrs. Irma Colasurdo. Irma Dover Colasurdo, 71, native of Bayou Dularge and resident of Houma, passed away on Oct. 3, 2017. Mrs. Colasurdo, a Vandebilt Catholic High School teacher for 48 years, was a blessing to the school community and her memory will be forever cherished. A memorial service was held in Mrs. Irma Colasurdo's honor on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at Vandebilt Catholic High School's KOLB Center. We ask for continued prayers of strength, comfort, and healing for her family, friends and all students and faculty that loved her.

Veterans Day Assembly "Freedom isn't perfect, but it sure is awesome!" - Col. Jacques Thibodeaux On Monday, November 13, the Vandebilt family gathered to honor all those who have served our country. Thanks to our guest speaker, Col. Jacques Thibodeaux, 31 year veteran of the National Guard, current US Marshall, and graduate of E.D. White. He spoke to our students and guests about his life of service to our country and his influences along the way, including his parents, former teachers, and Brothers of the Sacred Heart. Patriotic tributes were made by the choir, symphonic band, and Vandebelles. Special thanks to Mr. Gary Phillips, Key Club members and moderators, and the Mother's Club for helping to make our Veterans feel welcomed. PROUD TO BE A TERRIER Gabe Hohensee and Madelyn Rodrigue were officially named Commended Students
from the National Merit Scholarship Program and are ranked among the top 3% of PSAT scorers in the nation. Vandebilt is blessed to list a total of forty-three students who have received a National Merit Scholarship Program honor. Gabe and Madelyn proudly continue the tradition of academic excellence that is distinctive of a Vandebilt education. Congratulations! Key Club Rally Key Club members, Alaina Pitre, Addie Landry, Madalyn Duplantis, Nicole Pellegrin, Emily Daigle, and Kendall Kelly attended the 2017 Regional Key Club Rally, along with Vandebilt senior, Madison Liner, who is the Lt. Governor of the LaMissTenn division. Madison oversees 8 schools in the southwest region and helped to organize this year's rally. Our Vandebilt students placed 2nd in the float decorating contest and 3rd in the group costume contest. Students attending the rally raised over $2000 for charity through various fundraisers throughout the day including a bake sale, Smoothie King Booth, and a "Lt. Governor Pie in the Face" contest, in which Madison got pied! Keep up the good work, Key Club!
Congratulations to our 2017 Homecoming King and Queen, Mr. Ethan Henry and Miss Anna Lynn Haydel! Eagle Scout Award The highest award a boy scout can receive is the Eagle Scout Award. Since this award's inception in 1912 only two percent of eligible scouts have achieved this high honor. Senior, Clay Knight was recently awarded this prestigious honor. Congrats, Clay! Congratulations to Courtney Cobb and Carlie Hay for being selected to participate in the 2018 Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall. They will be singing in a choir that has students from every state in the United States, 6 provinces of Canada, Australia, China, Hong Kong, Mexico, New Zealand, Qatar, South Korea, and the United Kingdom. Congrats to our Terrier Football team on a great season with an overall record of 7-4 and a well-deserved appearance in the playoffs! Lady Terrier Volleyball makes history! The Lady Terrier Volleyball team was recently crowned 2017 State Champions! Congratulations to our hard working and talented girls, Coach Greg Castillo, Assistant Coach Teri Liner and special thanks to terrier nation for all the support! The team ends the season with an overall record of 40-5. Way to go, girls!
Bass Fishing: First Tournament of the Year Congratulations to the Bass Fishing Team for placing in the top ten during the Atchafalaya Basin Fall State Qualifying Tournament held October 28 at Doiron's Landing in Morgan City, LA. There were 219 boats in the tournament. Michael Clement and Joshua Bergeron took 5th place with a 13.75 lb. stringer and Nicholas Tamberella and Braxton Brien placed 9th with a 9.85 lb. stringer. Congratulations to our Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams for a terrific season! Both boys and girls teams were named Terrebonne Parish Champions. At the district level, our girls captured the district championship and our boys were runners-up, and at the state level our girls came out third and our boys were fourth overall. We are proud of your accomplishments!!
