With the victory over FIU ASU has won five out of its last seve games and is in a tied for second in the SBC West division with UALR with a conference record of 4-3. The Red Wolves rank 13th in the nation 3-point field goal percentage defense. Junior forward Jane Morrill is closing in on 1,000 points for her career. She currently has 922. This will be the the 57th meeting all-time between the Red Wolves and the Ragin Cajuns with ULL holding a 44-12 all-time series edge. ASU/LOUISIANA-LAFAYETTE HISTORY This will be the the 57th meeting all-time between the Red Wolves and the Ragin Cajuns with ULL holding a 44-12 all-time series edge. ASU defeated the Ragin Cajuns a 77-53 back on Dec. 22. ASU shot a season high 59.6 percent from the field against Louisiana-Lafayette on Dec. 22. That mark missed the all-time school record by just 3.6 precentage points, which was set last season against UT-Martin. ASU has had success in Lafayette, gathering a 15-4 record against the Ragin Cajuns in Louisiana since the 1982-83 season. The Red Wolves have a 16.8 margin of victory over ULL in Lafayette. ASU s largest margin of victory over ULL was a 51-point (95-44) victory during the 1996-97 season. SCOUTING THE RAGIN CAJUNS ULL enters the game with a 7-9 record and a 1-6 record in Sun Belt Conference play. The Ragin Cajuns have lost four out of their last fives games, including the loss to A-State on Dec. 22. Sylvana Okde is the team s leading scorer with 11.4 points per game, while Keke Veal is averaging 10.3 per contest. With seven victories, the Ragin Cajuns have already equaled their win total (7-23) from last season. ULL held UALR scoreless for 13:06 in the second half in their matchup on Dec. 29. O BANNON TIES CAREER HIGH Freshman guard Jalen O Bannon tied a career high with 13 points against FIU on Jan. 9. She previously scored 13 points against Louisiana-Lafayette on Dec. 22 when she went 6-for-6 from the field. Her 6-for-6 day for the field is tied for the highest field goal percentage by an ASU player in the Convocation Center in school history. Only four other players, with a minimum of five attempts, have gone perfect from the field. DEFENDING THE 3 ASU has been superb at defending the 3-point shot this season. A-State owns the nations 13th best 3-point defensive percentage at 22.8 percent, which is also the best percentage in the Sun Belt Confrence. ASU has not allowed an opponent to make a 3 in three games this year. ASU held FIU to a zero percentage from beyond the arc in both matchups this season. The Red Wolves also did not allow Wichita State to make a 3-pointer on Nov. 29. ASU held FIU to 0-21 from beyond arc in both matchups between the schools this season. Wichita State went 0-7 from 3-point land in its game on Nov. 29. In all games, ASU has allowed opponents to make just 55 3s on the year. In SBC play, the Red Wolves have held teams to just a 19.4 percentage from beyond the arc.

(1/9/13) Arkansas State freshman forward Jalen O Bannon came off the bench to score a career-tying 13 points, including the game s last four, to help lead the Red Wolves to a 49-43 victory over Florida International Wednesday night at the Convocation Center in a Sun Belt Conference women s basketball game. The Red Wolves claimed their second straight victory and have now won five of their last seven games, improving to 7-9 overall and 4-3 in league action. A-State handed FIU just its second loss over its last nine games, bringing the Golden Panthers record to 9-6 overall and 3-3 in Sun Belt play. Senior guard Ashley Olvera, who scored eight points and recorded a team-high four assists, hit two big three-point shots near the end of each half to help propel ASU to the victory. Olvera hit the first with nine seconds left in the first half to give the Red Wolves a 23-20 lead at the break, and then hit her second with 1:19 left in the game to put ASU ahead 45-41. A layup by Kamika Idom on FIU s next possession cut A-State s lead to just 45-43, but O Bannon converted a traditional three-point play with 22 seconds left to play to make the score 48-43. O Bannon hit an additional free throw 11 seconds later to set the final score at 49-43, matching the largest lead of the game by either team. The game featured nine lead changes and eight ties, but the Red Wolves were able to take the advantage for good on an O Bannon layup with 15:16 left in the game that made the score 27-26. ASU was able to build its lead to 39-33 by the 5:42 mark, but FIU went on an 8-3 run to cut its deficit to 42-41 before Olvera hit her second big three pointer. Morrill scored just four points in ASU s victory over the Golden Panthers, her lowest point total since her freshman season. STEALING THE SHOW ASU tied a season high with 11 steals against Western Kentucky on Jan. 6. It marked the fourth time this season that ASU had recorded 11 steals in a game. COACH TATE A HALL OF FAMER Current A-State assistant assistant coach and former player Sonja Tate has been selected as a part of the Arkansas Hall of Fame Class of 2013. She remains the leader in six statistical categories at ASU and scored 2,312 points in her career, the most of any men s or women s basketball player in school history. QEDAN S QUEST (PART TWO) For the second time this season sophomore guard Hanna Qedan enjoyed a career night. Against Middle Tennessee she set a new career mark with 22 points, shattering her previous career high of 12 earlier this season against Austin Peay. She also set a career high with nine made free throws against the Blue Raiders on 10 attempts. She has made three, 3-pointers three in her career. A-State shot 64.3 percent from the field against the Ragin Cajuns in the second half, which was its high field goal percentage in a half this year. DISHING IT OUT Ashley Olvera dished out a season high 9 assists against ULL on Dec 22., missing her career high by just one. Ashley Olvera has a 33 game active assist streak dating back to the 2011-12 season. She ranks 19th on ASU s all-time career assists list with 166 for her career. Kellina Bradshaw is 18th on the list with 168 career assists. As a team, A-State had a season high 19 assists against ULL on Dec. 22. WATSON LIGHTS IT UP FROM OUTSIDE Senior Andi Watson had a career day from beyond the 3-point line against the Ragin Cajuns on Dec. 22. She hit three straight 3-pointers and finished the game 3-for-5 from beyond the arc. Her previous career high in 3-pointers made in a game had been two, and before the Dec. 22 game she had made just eight 3-pointers in her career. LEADER OF THE PACK Junior Jane Morrill has lead ASU in scoring 10 times this season. She has been the leading scorer in four of A-State s five wins and has scored in double-digits in every game this season. She has also been the team s leading rebounder eight times this season. HUNT HITTING STRIDE Jasmine Hunt has posted back-to-back career nights in two straight games in December. She had a career-high eight points against Florida Atlantic on Dec. 1, surpassing her previous high of six. She tied that mark against UCA on Dec. 8 with eight points on 4-of-6 shooting. Hunt was efficient against UCA, scoring all eight of her points in the first in only six minutes of action. Hunt continued her career-high setting pace, recording two blocks against Missouri State for the first time in her career. FREQUENT FLYER MILES The Red Wolves have made frequent visits to the airport this season, having flown over 5,000- miles already. ASU began the year by flying from Memphis to Detroit and then bussing to Toledo to take on the Rockets. The Red Wolves then flew from Little Rock to Los Angeles to take on USC in a non-conference game on the day before Thanksgiving which was a 2,980 mile round trip via the air. ASU departed Memphis International Airport on Nov. 28 for Ft. Lauderdale International Airport in a flight that was just over 850 miles. In all, the Red Wolves traveled over 5,700 miles including flying miles and bus trips in its first four road games this season.

BREAKOUT PERFORMANCE Junior Carlisha Wyatt had a breakout performance against UT-Martin on Nov. 12. The junior college transfer from Angelina Community College scored 19 points and went 9-of-11 from the field against the Skyhawks. She hit her first nine shots and had 10 points at halftime. THE JANE TRAIN Morrill tied a career-high with five steals against USC. She recorded her second career double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds against Southeast Missouri State. Her 11 rebounds were also a career-high. For the second time this season, Morrill was in double-digit point totals by halftime. Morrill scored 10 points in the first half at Toledo and then scored 14 in the first half against SEMO. GETTING BENCH PRODUCTION The ASU bench has scored in double-digits in each of the Red Wolves 15 of ASU s 16 games this season. HEAD COACH BRIAN BOYER After 13 seasons at the helm of the Arkansas State women s basketball program, head coach Brian Boyer has not only established himself as the winningest coach in ASU women s basketball history, but as the winningest basketball coach to ever pace the sideline at Arkansas State. When Boyer led the Red Wolves to a 54-51 victory over UALR in the 2010-11 regular season finale, he passed former women s head coach Jerry Ann Winters with 197 victories, moving to the top of the list of all coaches in the history of ASU men s or women s basketball. Since then, Boyer s career victory total has risen to 211, including 111 Sun Belt Conference victories. His SBC win total ranks fourth all-time, a ranking that includes all women s and men s head coaches, and ranks second among active coaches. During the 2011-12 season, he became the only ASU basketball coach to ever reach the 200-victory mark, and produced another All-SBC player in sophomore Jane Morrill, the 21st player to earn the honor under Boyer. During the season, Arkansas State picked up notable victories over Southern Cal, WNIT participant Toledo and NCAA Tournament participant UT-Martin. The Red Wolves finished the 2010-11 season strong, winning seven of their last nine games to advance to the semifinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament and close out the year at 18-14, with a 9-7 slate in league play. The Red Wolves also saw two players earn post-season accolades, with senior Shay Scott earning third-team All-SBC honors and junior guard NeNe Hurst landing a spot on the All-Sun Belt Conference Tournament team. Arkansas State finished the season at No. 4 in the nation in three-point field goal percentage defense, holding opponents to just 26 percent shooting from outside the arc. The Red Wolves were also 28th nationally with a plus-3.94 turnover margin and their 10.3 steals per game ranked 46th in the nation. Arkansas State held its opponents to just 57.4 points-per-game on the season to finish 54th nationally in total defense. Under Boyer's guidance, Arkansas State has reached the Women's National Invitation Tournament four times. He led the Red Wolves to the 2003-04 Sun Belt East Division Championship, the program has produced 21 All-Sun Belt Conference players with Boyer at the helm, and Boyer was named Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year following the 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons. As an assistant to the men's team, Missouri Western was a NCAA Division II Tournament participant five years (1990, 1991, 1992, 1994 and 1995) and won two conference championships. The team made the Sweet 16 in 1990. As a women's assistant, Boyer and Missouri Western made two NCAA Tournament appearances, including a trip to the Final Four in 1995 and the Elite Eight the previous season. The team went 31-3 in 1995 and made it to the Final Eight of the national tournament. It also went undefeated through its MIAA schedule at 16-0. In 1994, the team finished third in the nation, losing in a national semifinal contest and finishing with a 29-3 overall mark. In his four seasons at Arkansas State as an assistant coach, Boyer and the Red Wolves earned a 75-42 mark. The 1998-99 team went 18-14 with a trip to the Women's NIT.
