The WHL now has representation in all four Western Canadian provinces and the U.S. states of Oregon and Washington. The WHL now consists of 22 member Clubs with 17 based in Canadian markets and five in the U.S. Pacific Northwest. The WHL is a member of the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) whose membership is comprised of three major junior hockey leagues: the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) and the Western Hockey League (WHL). At the conclusion of each league's playoffs, the CHL hosts the MasterCard Memorial Cup, a national championship tournament involving each of the three league champions and the tournament host. The WHL is regarded as one of the finest development leagues in the world today. Each season the WHL is one of the top leagues from which players are selected from in the NHL Draft. Currently over 20% of all NHL players are graduates of the WHL. The WHL is also a leading provider of post-secondary scholarships with over 325 scholarships awarded each year to current and graduate WHL players, more than any other league in North America.

RAIDER REVIEW: With one week in the books, the Prince Albert Raiders (1-1-0-0) continue a four-game home stand on Friday night against the Vancouver Giants (2-0-0-0). In the first two games of the regular season versus the Saskatoon Blades, fans saw two different versions of the Raiders. On opening night in Saskatoon, the team was unable to overcome an explosive Blades offence, losing 7-2. The following night, while the Blades continued to find success on the attack, the Raiders were able to match their long-time rivals. Prince Albert would win their home opener 6-5 with a goal by Sean Montgomery in three-on-three overtime. VS. VANCOUVER: Tonight is the only meeting this season between the Raiders and Giants. Vancouver is undefeated through two games after victories against the Seattle Thunderbirds and Kelowna Rockets at home. The Giants are without team captain Tyler Benson, who underwent surgery in September. 2014-15 SEASON SERIES RECAP Dec. 10/14 at VAN VAN 3 PA 0 P. Lee (29 svs), M. Bellerive (2a), J. Craig Leverton returned home to Debden, SK after the club decided on its three overage players, Jesse Lees, Jordan Tkatch, and Hunter Warner. Goaltender Nick McBride has also left the team after a mutual decision, while he awaits a trade. GIANTS AT HOME: The Art Hauser Centre has not been a friendly place for the Vancouver Giants. In their last three visits to Prince Albert, the Giants have lost all three contests by one goal. The Giants last win at the Art Hauser Centre was January 15, 2008. All three of Vancouver s goal scorers that night, Evander Kane, Spencer Machacek, and Jonathan Blum have gone on to play in the National Hockey League. BC BATTLES: Tonight is the first of five games the Raiders will play this season against BC Division clubs. Last season, Prince Albert went 2-3-0 against the BC Division during a west coast road swing in December. O CAPTAIN! MY CAPTAIN!: After practice on Wednesday afternoon, the Raiders introduced forward Tim Vanstone as the 40 th team captain in franchise history. The Swift Current, SK native is entering his fourth season with the Raiders and is coming off a career-best season in 2014-15. Reid Gardiner, Jesse Lees, and Dalton Yorke were announced as alternate captains. TKATCH ME IF YOU CAN: Jordan Tkatch leads the Raiders in scoring with five points after a pair of games. The 20-year-old forward scored on opening night in Saskatoon and followed it up with a four-point performance at home. It was the second time in his career that Tkatch had tallied four points. As a member of the Prince George Cougars, Tkatch recorded four assists in a 7-1 win over the Red Deer Rebels on February 8, 2014. WELCOME TO THE NHL: Brendan Guhle remains the only Raider still away with his National Hockey League team. In four games with the Buffalo Sabres, Guhle has collected a pair of assists. AUTOGRAPHED PUCKS: Visit the Giant Tiger Table in the Johnny Bower Lobby at tonight s game to purchase pucks autographed by members of the Prince Albert Raiders. They are available for only $2 with select pucks labelled with prizes from the Raider Store. All proceeds go towards the United Way. NEXT UP: The Prince Albert Raiders are back in action tomorrow night as they welcome the Medicine Hat Tigers to the Art Hauser Centre. Puck drop is 7:00 PM. As part of Giant Tiger Weekend, fans can receive a free child ticket with the purchase of an adult ticket. Prince Albert concludes their home stand on Tuesday, October 6 when they take on the Kootenay Ice.
