CALLER S CORNER It s that time of the year when a lot of the clubs are getting past the summer vacations and they are not only getting back to regular dance night but also are starting lessons. So our article this month is a follow up on an article we wrote a few months past about being angels in lessons with some different ideas, based on an article that we read since our article. The subject is The Joys of Being an Angel. This is aimed at previous dancers as well as new dancers that have recently completed getting into Square Dancing. We are going to go through the topics with some of the positive information that was put into the article. Make new friends: Look forward to the lessons and meet the new dancers. Greet them as they come in the door. Let them know how much fun and fellowship they are getting into. Wake up your brain: No matter how tired you are before lessons, and evening on the dance floor will make you feel better. Move to the music: It is really surprising as to how much exercise you get when you are on the dance floor and the laughter alone will burn off calories. Every lesson is a dance: More time you spend on the dance floor the more comfortable you will be. When you over learn a move by going through lessons again it becomes second nature and you don t even think about it. When you help a new dancer learn a move you will increase that person s enjoyment of our activity. Reducing their frustration will make both of you happier. In closing our article, it is your night to have fun without competition or any stress. Just think how happy you will be wearing that Big Bright Halo. Sincerely, Cecil & Barbara Burton Jr.

Belles & Beaus News We have been reminded that we are approaching fall in several ways, one of those ways was the start of "Fall Square Dance Lessons". We kicked off our fall lessons with our "Open House" event on August 8 with an "Ice Cream Social". The club furnished the Ice Cream and members brought things to complement ice cream. We had six New Dancers show up for this event. We also had a good turn out of club members and angels. We were also pleased to have 4 new club members added to our roster that night. Now the second night of lessons was a different story! If you remember on the evening of August 15, we had severe storms moving into the Tulsa Area at rush hour, well that was also the same time preparations were being made to come to our lessons that begin at 6:30pm. The weather event prompted several to call or text us and let us know they would not be there. So our turn out was down, but we finally ended up with 20 in attendance including 2 brand New Dancers! That might be the kind of dancers we want! you think? We have met for the 3rd time as of this writing, and we have announced that we will continue to take anyone else wanting to take lessons through next Tuesday the 29th of August. We will continue with lessons on each Tuesday through November 14. Lessons will be from 6:30-9:00pm except on the nights we dance. On regular dance nights the lessons are from 6:30-7:30pm(no workshop-until lessons are completed). Our final lesson will be on November 28th from 6:30pm-7:30pm, followed by a Graduation Dance to honor our New Dancers. The Dance will be an "All Gospel" "All Singing Calls" dance as we continue in the Thanksgiving Season of the Fall. We will be resuming twice a month dances on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays, with our September dances on the 12th and the 26th. Our October dances will be on the 10th and the 24th. November 14th we will have a "Patriotic Dance" to Honor Our Veterans and Our Country, then as noted earlier we will have our "All Gospel" Graduation dance on November 28th. In December we will only dance on the 12th. Remember the Alaska Square Dance Cruise is ON! Swinging Rebels in OKC as well as Belles and Beaus are planning to have a good time next summer. The Cruise will be August 26-September 2, 2018. Cecil will be our caller. All are welcome to join us for this Cruise, you can still make your plans and join us for a Great Time! You are Welcome to come join us and help Angel a New Dancer, and/or come have fun with us at our dances. We are still trying to keep our club and dance information current on wheresthedance.com. Call us at 918.850.2395 and let us know if you are not on our email list and would like to be! Respectfully Submitted Charles and Jenean Herndon, Presidents 2017

Lake Keystone Squares News Lake Keystone is excited about starting our new season this fall. The first dance will be Sept 15. This will be a free Beans and Jeans Dance. So come out in jeans and eat beans, cornbread. and desserts. Bill and Janis Powell, our caller, will make this a fun and exciting dance. The location of our dances will be at the Sand Springs Church of God, 4 th and Wilson, Sand Springs, OK. This location is easy to find just north HW 412 on HW 97. Our schedule for dances will be the 1 st and 3 rd Fridays of each month through May. Lake Keystone members have worked really hard out selling the State tickets for this year. We sold tickets at the Sapulpa Route 66 Blowout, the Collinsville Hogs and Rods Show, Walmart in Glenpool and Sapulpa as well as the Reasor's store in Sapulpa and Prattville. The 2017 Fall Roundup will be September 24, and 25 at Wagoner, OK. Next will be the State Festival on the weekend of November 4 in Oklahoma City. And don't forget Green Country Festival November 11 in Tulsa. If you are in need of more information on any of these festivals, just ask any Green Country officer. If you know any one who would like to take lessons, let one of us know. We are always looking for new members. Again, Lake Keystone will be dancing September 15 at the Sand Springs Church of God with Bill and Janis Powell calling. The next dance after that will be October 6. See you in a square. Greg and Shelley Rose

Green Country Ticket Sales To Date Thank you to each of the clubs for participating in the ticket campaign so far. We sold tickets as a District at Sapulpa Rt. 66 Blowout and at Collinsville Hogs N Rods car shows. Each club had a good turn out and did quite well on ticket sales. Each club has been out selling tickets and we hope sales are going well. This is a major fundraising event for our clubs, district and the federation, the only one supported by all 3 entities each year. Without money we cannot survive. It takes a certain amount of funds each month to sponsor a dance, supplies, hall rental and caller. Do your part, help your club to keep this hobby going by selling tickets. If each member would sell 500 tickets, our clubs and district would be in great shape. This is a challenge. Let us see how many of you can make this. Really, 500 per couple or 250 per single is a real easy goal. Accept the challenge and support each club belong to in this way. Please continue to sell your tickets and work for growth of your clubs and the District for the benefit of Square Dancing. If Julia and I can help you in any way or if you need additional tickets, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to the advancement of square dancing. Jim & Julia Reese GC Ticket Chairman 918-740-5419 jdreese@hotmail.com
